THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

NORTHEAST FLORIDA
SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL GEORGIA
COASTAL SOUTH CAROLINA
COASTAL WATERS

EFFECTIVE THIS TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 125 PM UNTIL
800 PM EDT.

HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 90
STATUTE MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 50 MILES WEST
SOUTHWEST OF ALBANY GEORGIA TO 40 MILES SOUTHEAST OF SAVANNAH

REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

DISCUSSION...SEVERAL BANDS OF STRONG/SEVERE STORMS WILL DEVELOP
DURING THE AFTERNOON ALONG A WEAK SURFACE TROUGH AND OUTFLOW
BOUNDARIES FROM MORNING CONVECTION. CONVECTIVE COVERAGE WILL BE
AIDED BY A SERIES OF WEAK MCV/S APPROACHING THIS AREA FROM THE W.
THE COMBINATION OF MODERATE INSTABILITY AND RELATIVELY STRONG DEEP
LAYER SPEED SHEAR SHOULD SUPPORT BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT MOVING
SUPERCELLS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS. THE
SEVERE THREAT MAY BE ENHANCED LOCALLY NEAR THE COAST WHERE STORMS
INTERACT WITH THE SEA BREEZE.

AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
