...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

...CNTRL/NRN HIGH PLAINS...

00Z SOUNDINGS FROM THE HIGH PLAINS ARE QUITE DRY THIS
EVENING...THOUGH LAPSE RATE ENVIRONMENT IS CERTAINLY STEEP ENOUGH
FOR DEEP THERMALS ALONG/POST FRONTAL FROM ERN WY INTO WRN SD/NEB
PANHANDLE. LARGE SCALE ASCENT WILL INCREASE ACROSS THIS REGION AS
UPPER SPEED MAX DIGS INTO CO LATE TONIGHT WHICH SHOULD SERVE TO
COOL/MOISTEN MID LEVELS. ALTHOUGH SCATTERED LIGHTNING SHOULD BE
NOTED WITHIN EXPANDING PRECIPITATION SHIELD OVER THE HIGH
PLAINS...ESPECIALLY ACROSS THE NEB PANHANDLE...IT APPEARS THE
PROSPECT FOR DAMAGING WINDS AT THE SURFACE ARE TOO LOW TO WARRANT
MEANINGFUL SEVERE PROBABILITIES TONIGHT.

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

AREAS AFFECTED...FAR EASTERN WY/NEB PANHANDLE/SOUTHWEST SD

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 302218Z - 010015Z

SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD CONTINUE TO DEVELOP FROM FAR EASTERN
WY INTO THE NEB PANHANDLE/SOUTHWEST SD THROUGH EARLY EVENING. THE
STRONGEST STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF STRONG WIND GUSTS/HAIL. A WATCH
IS NOT ANTICIPATED.

LATEST SURFACE ANALYSIS FEATURES A COLD FRONT ANGLING FROM WESTERN
SD INTO THE NORTHERN NEB PANHANDLE TO NEAR A SURFACE LOW ACROSS
SOUTHEAST WY. THUNDERSTORMS HAVE RECENTLY DEVELOPED ALONG/JUST NORTH
OF THE FRONT ACROSS EAST CENTRAL WY...WITH DEEPLY MIXED CUMULUS
CONTINUING TO EXPAND IN THE WARM SECTOR ACROSS THE NEB PANHANDLE PER
VISIBLE SATELLITE IMAGERY. AS STORMS INCREASE OVER THE NEXT FEW
HOURS...REGIONAL PROFILERS/88D DERIVED WINDS REFLECT STRONGLY VEERED
PROFILES WITH 40+ KT OF DEEP LAYER SHEAR...WHICH WILL AID IN STORM
ORGANIZATION. THE STRONGEST STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF STRONG WIND
GUSTS THROUGH EARLY EVENING...ESPECIALLY ALONG/SOUTH OF THE FRONT
ACROSS THE NEB PANHANDLE WITHIN AN ENVIRONMENT CHARACTERIZED BY
INVERTED-V PROFILES WITH 1000+ J/KG DOWNDRAFT CAPE. SOME HAIL MAY BE
POSSIBLE AS WELL...PERHAPS MOST LIKELY NORTH OF THE FRONT ACROSS THE
NORTHERN NEB PANHANDLE INTO SOUTHWEST SD. ISOLATED/MARGINAL NATURE
OF THE OVERALL THREAT WILL LIKELY PRECLUDE A WATCH ISSUANCE.

...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

...SYNOPSIS...
SRN BC UPR LOW EXPECTED TO REDEVELOP SE INTO CNTRL CO BY THE END OF
THE PERIOD IN RESPONSE TO STRONG JET STREAK NOW MOVING SE ACROSS
WA/ORE. AS THIS OCCURS...LEE CYCLONE NOW OVER WRN SD SHOULD REFORM
S INTO NE CO THIS EVENING...BEFORE CONTINUING E/NE INTO S CNTRL NEB
EARLY THURSDAY.

...NRN HI PLNS...
AN ENVIRONMENT SIMILAR TO THAT WHICH SUPPORTED WIND-PRODUCING TSTMS
OVER CNTRL MT YESTERDAY WILL DEVELOP OVER ERN WY/NE CO AND WRN NEB
THIS AFTN AS SFC HEATING RESULTS IN LOW-LVL DESTABILIZATION NEAR
CREST OF WARM SECTOR OF DEEPENING LEE CYCLONE. DEEPLY-MIXED
BOUNDARY LAYER...COUPLED WITH LARGE TEMPERATURE-DEWPOINT SPREADS AND
CONVERGENCE INVOF LEE TROUGH/LOW...WILL ONCE AGAIN BE FAVORABLE FOR
SCTD AFTN STORMS WITH A THREAT FOR LOCALLY DMGG WIND GUSTS. COLD
FRONT NOW MOVING SE INTO NRN WY SHOULD MARK THE WRN EDGE OF THIS
THREAT.

LARGE SCALE ASCENT WILL INCREASE OVER THE CNTRL AND NRN HI PLNS
TONIGHT AND EARLY THURSDAY AS UPR LOW REDEVELOPS SE ACROSS THE NRN
GRT BASIN/CNTRL RCKYS. AT THE SAME TIME...DEEP FRONTAL ZONE
ASSOCIATED WITH THE UPR SYSTEM WILL ADVANCE E TO THE HI PLNS AND
OVERTAKE/MERGE WITH PREVIOUSLY-MENTIONED SHALLOWER FRONT MOVING INTO
ERN WY TODAY. THIS SETUP SHOULD LEAD TO EXPANDING COVERAGE OF
ELEVATED CONVECTION/STORMS...ESPECIALLY FROM ERN WY INTO WRN SD.
MOISTURE WILL BE SPARSE...WITH REGION REMAINING WELL REMOVED FROM
SUBSTANTIAL GULF INFLOW. BUT STEEP MID LVL LAPSE RATES OF RESIDUAL
EML MAY YIELD STORMS WITH MARGINALLY SVR HAIL DURING THEIR EARLY
STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT.

...DISCUSSION...
UPPER LOW NOW OVER SWRN CANADA AND NWRN CONUS IS EXPECTED TO
REDEVELOP/PROPAGATE SEWD TO CENTRAL PLAINS DAY-2...THEN FILL AND
PERHAPS BEGIN TO MERGE WITH TROUGH EXTENDING SWD FROM HUDSON BAY
CYCLONE DAY-3. LARGE SPREAD IN PROGS OF THIS PROCESS - DISCUSSED IN
MORE DETAIL IN DAY-3 OUTLOOK -- CONTINUE IN ENSUING 2-3 DAYS AND
COMPLICATE PREDICTABILITY OF DAY-4/3RD-4TH SVR POTENTIAL INVOF
TRAILING PORTION OF SFC FRONTAL ZONE -- OVER SERN CONUS.
MEANWHILE...STG SHORTWAVE PERTURBATION NOW INVOF BERING STRAIT IS
FCST TO PIVOT CYCLONICALLY AROUND LOW THAT WILL DEVELOP OVER GULF OF
AK. MREF MEMBERS...UKMET...ECMWF AND OPERATIONAL SPECTRAL MODELS
ALL INDICATE THAT THIS PERTURBATION THEN SHOULD DIG SEWD TO PORTIONS
W-CENTRAL/SWRN CONUS BY DAY-6/5TH-6TH. CONSIDERING COMPLEX
INTERACTION OF THOSE SYSTEMS OVER NERN PACIFIC...AS WELL AS LARGE
UNCERTAINTIES DOWNSTREAM OVER ERN NORTH AMERICA...SUCH TIGHT
CLUSTERING ABOUT MODEL CONSENSUS IS REMARKABLE. SUFFICIENT LOW
LEVEL MOISTURE AND SHEAR MAY RETURN TO PORTIONS SRN/CENTRAL PLAINS
TO SUPPORT SVR POTENTIAL DAY-7/6TH-7TH...AS THIS FEATURE PROCEEDS
EWD. HOWEVER...SUFFICIENT UNCERTAINTIES EXIST REGARDING SHAPE AND
DEPTH OF SWRN UPPER TROUGH/LOW...AND ITS IMPACT ON SFC PATTERN...TO
PRECLUDE CATEGORICAL OUTLOOK ATTM.

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS LOWER MS VALLEY REGION TO LOWER
MI AND SRN WI...

...SYNOPSIS...
LARGE MID/UPPER LEVEL CYCLONE -- NOW EVIDENT IN MOISTURE CHANNEL
IMAGERY AND RAOB ANALYSES OVER BC AND PACIFIC NW -- IS FCST TO
REDEVELOP SEWD TO NEB DAY-2. CYCLONE THEN SHOULD OCCLUDE IN
LOW-MIDDLE LEVELS...FOLLOWED BY AT LEAST PARTIAL MERGER/PHASING WITH
TROUGH EXTENDING SWD FROM UPPER LOW OVER HUDSON BAY. LATER PROCESS
IS HANDLED WITH GREAT INCONSISTENCY BOTH BETWEEN OPERATIONAL MODELS
AND AMONG INDIVIDUAL SREF MEMBERS...WITH 500 MB LOW PROGGED ANYWHERE
BETWEEN WRN MO AND SWRN LS IN THOSE PROGS THAT MAINTAIN CLOSED
CYCLONE. SEVERAL ENSEMBLE MEMBERS -- INCLUDING AT LEAST ONE FROM
EACH MODEL TYPE -- PROG MORE COMPLETE PHASING WITH NRN SYSTEM...I.E.
NO MORE CLOSED LOW...AND VARYING POSITIONS/TILTS TO RESULTANT
OPEN-WAVE TROUGHING OVER MID/UPPER MS VALLEY REGION BY 3/12Z.

PROGGED DISCREPANCIES IN SFC FEATURES ARE LESS PRONOUNCED...SUCH
THAT BY 3/00Z...WARM/COLD FRONTAL TRIPLE-POINT LOW SHOULD BE LOCATED
BETWEEN ERN IA-ERN WI...E OR SE OF OLDER/OCCLUDED CYCLONE. COLD
FRONT SHOULD EXTEND SSWWD ACROSS IL...ARKLATEX REGION AND S-CENTRAL
TX.

...LOWER MS VALLEY REGION TO LOWER MI AND SRN WI...
TREMENDOUS SPREAD IN PROGS REGARDING PHASING OF CANADIAN AND CENTRAL
CONUS UPPER SYSTEMS RESULTS IN CORRESPONDINGLY LARGE VARIETY OF
POSSIBLE MASS FIELD ADJUSTMENTS AND KINEMATIC GEOMETRIES ALOFT.
THIS CREATES CONSIDERABLE UNCERTAINTIES IN FCST OF CONVECTIVE
TIMING/EVOLUTION...EVEN GIVEN TIGHTER CLUSTERING OF SFC GUIDANCE.
IN GENERAL...PRIND BAND OF TSTMS SHOULD EXIST AT BEGINNING OF PERIOD
ALONG OR JUST AHEAD OF SFC COLD FRONT FROM UPPER MS VALLEY REGION
SWWD AT LEAST INTO AR...WITH DAMAGING WIND...OCCASIONAL HAIL AND
PERHAPS A FEW TORNADOES POSSIBLE. SVR POTENTIAL EARLY IN PERIOD MAY
EXTEND AS FAR SW AS CENTRAL TX...BUT SEVERAL CONCERNS PRECLUDE
CATEGORICAL OUTLOOK FOR THAT PORTION OF FRONTAL ZONE ATTM. ALTHOUGH
MOISTURE WILL BE RICHEST FROM ARKLATEX REGION SWD...OFFSETTING
FACTORS MAY INCLUDE CAPPING...WEAK UPPER LEVEL SUPPORT...AND LACK OF
STRONGER CONVERGENCE BECAUSE OF SOMEWHAT VEERED/WEAKER WINDS IN
ADJACENT WARM SECTOR. THIS SUGGESTS LESSER EARLY-PERIOD CONVECTIVE
COVERAGE AND MORE CONDITIONAL SVR POTENTIAL.

ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT IS POSSIBLE ALONG/AHEAD OF SFC COLD FRONT
DURING DAY...FROM IL/INDIANA AND PERHAPS SRN LM AREA SWWD ACROSS
LOWER MS VALLEY. STRONGER DEEP-LAYER WINDS SHOULD EXIST OVER NRN
PARTS OF OUTLOOK AREA...WITH LAPSE RATES...LOW LEVEL MOISTURE AND
BUOYANCY INCREASING SWD. DEEP-LAYER SHEAR PROFILES WILL SUPPORT
SUPERCELL/TORNADO THREAT WITH ANY RELATIVELY DISCRETE/SUSTAINED
CONVECTION...AND DAMAGING WIND THREAT WOULD DOMINATE WITH MORE
LINEAR ACTIVITY. ONE OR TWO RELATIVELY SMALL AREAS OF CONCENTRATED
AND/OR SIGNIFICANT SVR POTENTIAL ARE QUITE POSSIBLE WITHIN CURRENT
BROAD-BRUSHED CATEGORICAL AREA. HOWEVER...AFOREMENTIONED
UNCERTAINTIES PRECLUDE FOCUSING SUCH PROBABILITIES ON ANY PARTICULAR
AREA WITHIN SLGT RISK THIS FAR IN ADVANCE.

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS PORTIONS ERN NEB/IA SSWWD TO
ERN RED RIVER VALLEY REGION OF TX/OK...

...SYNOPSIS...
PRIMARY UPPER AIR FEATURE FOR THIS FCST WILL BE CYCLONE NOW MOVING
FARTHER INLAND SRN BC...WITH TROUGHING SWD ACROSS NRN CA. AS THIS
SYSTEM MOVES OVER NRN ROCKIES LATE DAY-1...SPEED MAX IS FCST TO DIG
SEWD AROUND SWRN/SRN RIM OF THIS VORTEX...WITH NEW PRIMARY
CIRCULATION CENTER DEVELOPING BY APPROXIMATELY 2/00Z VICINITY SWRN
NEB. THIS SCENARIO IS SUPPORTED BY SREF CONSENSUS AS WELL AS
OPERATIONAL NAM/NGM...SPECTRAL BEING SOMEWHAT FARTHER NE AND FASTER
WITH LOW-MIDLEVEL CYCLONE OCCLUSION.

ASSOCIATED SFC CYCLONE SHOULD LIFT NEWD SLOWLY FROM VICINITY KS/NEB
BORDER TO ERN/NERN NEB DURING DAY...WITH OCCLUSION TRIPLE POINT
PROPAGATING EWD ALONG WARM FRONT OVERNIGHT. WARM FRONT SHOULD LIFT
NWD SLOWLY ACROSS IA/NRN IL AND OVER PORTIONS SRN LOWER MI BY END OF
PERIOD. MEANWHILE...COLD FRONT IS FCST TO MOVE SEWD ACROSS SRN HIGH
PLAINS...WRN OK AND WRN/CENTRAL KS BEFORE END OF PERIOD. BY AROUND
2/00Z...DRYLINE SHOULD EXTEND FROM COLD FRONTAL INTERSECTION --
INVOF EXTREME SERN NEB -- SSWWD ACROSS ERN KS TO NEAR DFW METROPLEX
AND INTO CENTRAL TX. COLD FRONT WILL OVERTAKE DRYLINE FROM N-S
ACROSS REGION NOCTURNALLY.

...CENTRAL/SRN LOW PLAINS...LOWER MO VALLEY TO NE TX...
BASIC SFC/UPPER PATTERN IS QUITE FAVORABLE CLIMATOLOGICALLY FOR
EARLY MAY SVR OUTBREAK. HOWEVER...NON-TRIVIAL CONCERNS LINGER
REGARDING BOTH DAYTIME CAPPING AND QUALITY AND NWD EXTENT OF
MOISTURE WITHIN WARM SECTOR...KEEPING UNCONDITIONAL SVR
PROBABILITIES BELOW MDT RISK CATEGORICAL THRESHOLDS ATTM.

EARLIEST SVR POTENTIAL SHOULD DEVELOP CLOSE TO SFC LOW OVER NERN
KS/SERN NEB/SRN IA...AND ADJACENT SEGMENT OF WARM FRONT. TYPICALLY
THIS WOULD BE SOME CONCERN FOR SMALL/LOW-TOPPED SUPERCELLS WITH
TORNADO THREAT...HOWEVER THIS POTENTIAL APPEARS VERY
CONDITIONAL/UNCERTAIN ATTM. FCST SOUNDINGS SUGGEST COMBINATION OF
SOMEWHAT MEAGER MOISTURE...COOL SFC TEMPS AND SOMEWHAT ERRATIC
DIRECTIONAL WIND PROFILE ATOP BACKED SFC FLOW. WITH
TIME...HOWEVER...SFC AIR MASS SHOULD HEAT/MOISTEN AHEAD OF
FRONT/DRYLINE OVER NWRN MO...SERN IA AND NERN KS...GROWING TOTAL SVR
POTENTIAL THROUGH LATE AFTERNOON/EARLY EVENING.

FARTHER S ACROSS SERN KS/SWRN MO/ERN OK REGION...EXPECT LESS DIURNAL
CONVECTIVE COVERAGE BUT GREATER POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SVR WITH
THOSE STORMS THAT DO FORM. SFC DEW POINTS UPPER 50S TO LOW 60S ARE
EXPECTED DURING DAY...WITH MID 60S OVER PORTIONS ERN OK...INCREASING
FROM S-N IN PREFRONTAL AIR MASS DURING EVENING. TORNADOES STILL ARE
POSSIBLE IN ADDITION TO THREAT FOR LARGE/DAMAGING HAIL...ESPECIALLY
WITH ANY MATURE/DISCRETE SUPERCELLS THAT CAN MOVE INTO FAVORABLE
BOUNDARIES AND/OR EVENING LCL REDUCTIONS ASSOCIATED WITH WEAK
DIABATIC SFC COOLING. SLGT BACKING OF SFC WINDS BENEATH
STRENGTHENING LLJ ALSO SHOULD INCREASE HODOGRAPH SIZE SUBSTANTIALLY
NEAR AND AFTER 00Z...FOR A FEW HOURS WHILE EFFECTIVE LIFTED PARCELS
STILL ARE ROOTED AT SFC. PARTICULARLY OVER ERN/SERN OK AND RED
RIVER REGION...TIMING/COVERAGE OF CONVECTIVE INITIATION WILL BE MAIN
UNCERTAINTY BECAUSE OF STG CAPPING...INDICATING POTENTIAL FOR VERY
ISOLATED BUT STILL SIGNIFICANT-SVR PRODUCING SUPERCELLS.

AFTER DARK...LINE OF TSTMS MAY BUILD SWWD ALONG COLD FRONT TO
SWD-PROPAGATING FRONT/DRYLINE INTERSECTION. ALTHOUGH MOISTURE WILL
BE MORE FAVORABLE FROM SERN OK SSWWD INTO CENTRAL TX AHEAD OF
FRONT/DRYLINE...SWD EXTENT OF SVR POTENTIAL BECOMES MORE CONDITIONAL
BECAUSE OF MESOSCALE BOUNDARY UNCERTAINTIES...WEAKER UPPER
SUPPORT...AND STRONGER CAPPING WITH SWD EXTENT.

...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

...NRN HIGH PLAINS...
AN UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST IS FORECAST TO DIG
SEWD INTO THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST TODAY AS A LOW-LEVEL JET ORGANIZES
IN THE PLAINS STATES. IN RESPONSE TO THE APPROACHING UPPER-LEVEL
TROUGH...A SFC LOW WILL DEEPEN IN THE HIGH PLAINS AS A COLD FRONT
ADVANCES SEWD ACROSS THE NRN HIGH PLAINS. LARGE-SCALE ASCENT WILL
INCREASE ACROSS THE REGION AND THIS COMBINED WITH LOW-LEVEL
CONVERGENCE ALONG THE BOUNDARY SHOULD RESULT IN SCATTERED
THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT THIS EVENING ACROSS WRN SD AND WRN NEB.

FORECAST SOUNDINGS AT 00Z THURSDAY ACROSS THE NRN HIGH PLAINS SHOW A
STRONG GRADIENT IN SHEAR FROM WEST TO EAST LARGELY ASSOCIATED WITH
THE EXIT REGION OF A MID-LEVEL JET SOUTHEAST OF THE UPPER-LEVEL
TROUGH. THIS ALONG WITH RELATIVELY COLD AIR ALOFT ASSOCIATED WITH
THE APPROACHING TROUGH AND STEEP MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES MAY SUPPORT
AN ISOLATED HAIL THREAT THIS EVENING. SFC DEWPOINTS IN THE MID TO
UPPER 40S F EVIDENT ON FORECAST SOUNDINGS SUGGEST INSTABILITY WILL
NOT BE THAT STRONG. THIS APPEARS LIKELY TO KEEP THE SEVERE THREAT
MARGINAL ACROSS THE REGION.
