THE MEDIUM RANGE MODELS BEGIN THE DAY 4 TO 8 PERIOD WITH AN
UPPER-LEVEL LOW OVER THE OH AND TN VALLEYS ON WEDNESDAY/DAY 4.
ALTHOUGH THE ECMWF AND GFS SOLUTIONS FOR THURSDAY/DAY 5 AND
FRIDAY/DAY 6 DIFFER SOMEWHAT...BOTH MODELS EVENTUALLY RETROGRADE THE
UPPER-LEVEL LOW WWD INTO THE MID-MS VALLEY WITH THE LOW REMAINING IN
PLACE OVER THE WEEKEND. THIS PATTERN WILL HELP LOCK THE LOW-LEVEL
MOISTURE IN PLACE ACROSS THE ERN GULF COAST AND CAROLINAS WHERE
THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY MAY OCCUR FROM THE MID TO LATE WEEK TIMEFRAME.
HOWEVER...DUE TO THE WEAK INSTABILITY...AN ENHANCED SEVERE THREAT IS
NOT EXPECTED DURING THE DAY 4 TO 8 PERIOD.

THE REMNANTS OF TROPICAL SYSTEM LEE ARE FORECAST TO MOVE SLOWLY NEWD
ACROSS THE ERN GULF COAST STATES MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY. TO THE
EAST OF THE SYSTEM...MODEL FORECASTS SHOW A VERY MOIST AIRMASS IN
PLACE FROM FLORIDA NWD INTO THE CAROLINAS WHERE SCATTERED TO
NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD BE ONGOING TUESDAY MORNING. THE GFS
AND ECMWF SEEM HAVE THE MOST RELIABLE SOLUTIONS SHOWING A WARM FRONT
LIKE FEATURE EXTENDING EWD ACROSS THE CAROLINAS TUESDAY AFTERNOON.
FORECAST SOUNDINGS TUESDAY ALONG AND JUST SOUTH OF THE BOUNDARY SHOW
SFC DEWPOINTS IN THE LOWER 70S F...REASONABLY STEEP LOW-LEVEL LAPSE
RATES AND 30 TO 40 KT OF DEEP LAYER SHEAR. THIS ENVIRONMENT SHOULD
BE ENOUGH FOR A MARGINAL WIND DAMAGE THREAT IF THE SCENARIO PANS OUT
SOMEWHAT CLOSE TO MODEL FORECASTS. HAVE INTRODUCED A 5 PERCENT
SEVERE PROBABILITY IN THE CAROLINAS TO ACCOUNT FOR THIS POSSIBILITY.

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS ACROSS THE CENTRAL GULF
COAST...

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS ACROSS THE NORTHEAST
STATES/UPPER OH VALLEY...

...SYNOPSIS...
AS TROPICAL STORM LEE REMAINS ALONG THE CENTRAL GULF
COAST...POSITIVE TILT UPPER TROUGH WILL BEGIN TO SPLIT AS IT SHIFTS
SLOWLY EASTWARD OVER EASTERN CANADA/GREAT LAKES REGION...WITH
SHOWERS/TSTMS COMMON ALONG/JUST AHEAD OF AN ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT.
IN THE WEST...PREVALENCE OF AN UPPER RIDGE WILL RESULT IN RELATIVELY
BENIGN CONDITIONS WITH RESPECT TO DEEP CONVECTION...SAVE ISOLATED TO
SCATTERED MAINLY AFTERNOON TSTMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE SOUTHERN
ROCKIES/FOUR CORNERS AREA.

...CENTRAL GULF COAST...
TROPICAL STORM LEE IS EXPECTED TO SLOWLY DRIFT GENERALLY NORTHWARD
THROUGH THE PERIOD ACROSS SOUTHERN LA...REFERENCE NHC FOR THE LATEST
FORECAST INFORMATION. WITH TS LEE EXPECTED TO GENERALLY MAINTAIN ITS
INTENSITY...A RELATIVELY BROAD ENVELOPE OF ENHANCED
CYCLONIC/GENERALLY SOUTH-SOUTHEASTERLY LOW-LEVEL FLOW WILL PERSIST
ON ITS EASTERN HALF. WEAK/UNCERTAIN DESTABILIZATION PROGRESSIVELY
INLAND WILL LIKELY REMAIN THE PRIMARY LIMITING FACTOR FOR A MORE
CONSIDERABLE TORNADO THREAT. THAT SAID...A CYCLONICALLY PIVOTING
MID-LEVEL DRY SLOT AROUND THE SOUTHERN/EASTERN PERIPHERY OF TS
LEE...OVERSPREADING AREAS SUCH AS FAR SOUTHEAST LA AND SOUTHERN
PORTIONS OF MS/LA AND FL PANHANDLE...COULD BE AN ADDITIONAL FACTOR
IN WHAT SHOULD OTHERWISE BE A DIURNAL ENHANCEMENT TO NEAR-SURFACE
BUOYANCY/POTENTIAL UPDRAFT VIGOR. WHILE THE MAIN TORNADO POTENTIAL
MAY OCCUR DURING THE DAYLIGHT HOURS...STRONG SHEAR/SRH WITHIN THE
LOWEST 1-2 KM WILL SUPPORT THE POSSIBILITY OF ISOLATED TORNADOES
WITH ANY QUASI-SUSTAINED UPDRAFTS/LOW-TOPPED SUPERCELLS THROUGHOUT
THE PERIOD.

...NORTHEAST STATES/UPPER OH VALLEY/APPALACHIANS...
AS PREVIOUSLY DISCUSSED...THE EASTERN CONUS TROUGH SHOULD GRADUALLY
SPREAD EASTWARD/FRAGMENT OVER THE GREAT LAKES REGION/MIDWEST AND
ONTARIO/QUEBEC THROUGH TONIGHT. AN ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WILL
CONTINUE TO GRADUALLY SPREAD EASTWARD TODAY...ALTHOUGH THE
PERSISTENCE OF SHOWERS/TSTMS AND ASSOCIATED CLOUD COVER MAY
EFFECTIVELY DEFINE THE FRONT A BIT EASTWARD VIA DIFFERENTIAL
HEATING/OUTFLOWS. GIVEN THE ORIENTATION OF THE PARENT UPPER
TROUGH...THE STRONGEST VERTICAL SHEAR WILL TEND TO GENERALLY LAG
/NORTHWESTWARD OF/ THE EFFECTIVE FRONTAL ZONE.
REGARDLESS...INCREASING/CYCLONIC UPPER FLOW AND THE PRESENCE OF A
MOIST/DIURNALLY DESTABILIZING BOUNDARY LAYER SHOULD CONTRIBUTE TO AN
INCREASE IN POTENTIALLY STRONG/SEVERE TSTMS DURING THE
AFTERNOON/EARLY EVENING IN VICINITY OF THE COLD /OR MORE LIKELY
EFFECTIVE/ FRONT. DAMAGING WINDS AND TO A LESSER EXTENT SEVERE HAIL
WILL BE THE PRIMARY CONCERNS...AND THE POSSIBILITY MAY EXIST FOR A
TORNADO ACROSS AREAS SUCH AS NY/NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND.

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS ACROSS PARTS OF THE FAR WRN FL
PANHANDLE....SCNTRL AL AND WRN GA...

TROPICAL STORM LEE IS FORECAST TO MOVE ACROSS LA TONIGHT AND BECOME
A TROPICAL DEPRESSION MONDAY IN SRN MS. HEAVY RAINBANDS SHOULD
EXTEND NEWD AND EWD FROM THE CENTER ACROSS THE ERN GULF COAST STATES
AS IS DEPICTED BY THE ECMWF AND GFS SOLUTIONS. A VERY MOIST AIRMASS
SHOULD BE IN PLACE ACROSS THE FL PANHANDLE...SRN AL...SCNTRL GA AND
SC WHERE MODEL FORECASTS DEVELOP MODERATE INSTABILITY DURING THE
DAY. GFS FORECAST SOUNDINGS ACROSS THE ERN GULF COAST STATES MONDAY
SHOW 0-1 KM SHEAR OF 30 TO 40 KT WITH SUBSTANTIAL DIRECTIONAL SHEAR
IN THE LOW TO MID-LEVELS RESULTING IN AMPLY CURVED HODOGRAPHS. THIS
COULD SUPPORT A THREAT FOR ROTATING STORMS AND TORNADOES AS CELLS
INITIATE ACROSS THE WARM SECTOR DUE TO SFC HEATING. THE TORNADO
THREAT SHOULD BE GREATEST WITH DISCRETE STORMS THAT INITIATE ALONG
THE INSTABILITY GRADIENT FROM SRN AL NEWD INTO WRN GA WHERE A FEW
TORNADOES WILL BE POSSIBLE SUNDAY. HAVE INTRODUCED A SLIGHT RISK
AREA FROM SW AL NEWD INTO WRN GA WHERE THE TORNADO THREAT APPEARS
GREATEST ACCORDING THE FORECAST SOUNDINGS. PRECIPITABLE WATER VALUES
OF 2.0 TO 2.5 INCHES AND 50 KT OF FLOW JUST OFF THE SFC MAY ALSO
PROMOTE A THREAT FOR WET DOWNBURSTS ESPECIALLY IF A LINE-SEGMENT CAN
BECOME SOMEWHAT ORGANIZED MONDAY AFTERNOON.

AREAS AFFECTED...PORTIONS S-CENTRAL/SERN LA...SRN MS...SRN AL...WRN
FL PANHANDLE.

CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 830...

VALID 040435Z - 040630Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 830 CONTINUES.

GIVEN ERRATIC MOVEMENT OF TS LEE AND ONLY MINOR CHANGES IN MESOBETA
SCALE STRUCTURE OVER MOST FAVORABLE SECTOR...AREA OF PRIMARY TORNADO
THREAT HAS CHANGED LITTLE DURING PAST SEVERAL HOURS AND SHOULD
REMAIN ESSENTIALLY OVER WW AREA FOR SEVERAL MORE.

SFC THERMAL AXIS HAS SHIFTED EWD SOMEWHAT...EXTENDING AS OF 04Z FROM
WSW BTR SEWD ACROSS MSY AND SW PASS AREAS THEN SWD OVER OPEN GULF
WATERS. ALTHOUGH NO LONGER BENEFITING THERMALLY FROM DIABATIC SFC
HEATING...INLAND ADVECTION OF CONVECTIVELY UNDISTURBED MARINE AIR
NEAR THERMAL AXIS IS MAINTAINING RELATIVELY MAXIMIZED BUOYANCY
ACROSS SERN LA...WITH MLCAPE 500-1000 J/KG ESTIMATED BASED ON
MODIFIED LIX RAOB AND RUC SOUNDINGS. LOW-LEVEL HODOGRAPHS ACTUALLY
ENLARGE WITH OUTWARD EXTENT FROM CENTER ACROSS SERN LA TOWARD MS/AL
COASTS. STRONGEST 0-1 KM AGL SHEAR MAY REMAIN DISPLACED WELL INTO
PRECIP-INFLUENCED THETAE DEFICIT OVER INLAND SRN PORTIONS MS/AL.
TORNADO THREAT ACCORDINGLY MAY BE RELATIVELY MAXIMIZED OVER COASTAL
AREAS BETWEEN MSY-MOB WHERE NRN FRINGE OF FAVORABLE BUOYANCY
OVERLAPS SRN PORTION OF STRONGEST SHEAR...THEN SSWWD ACROSS
CHANDELEUR ISLANDS AND MS RIVER MOUTH REGION. THIS SWATH ALSO
SHOULD CONTINUE TO EXHIBIT RELATIVELY DISCRETE CONVECTIVE MODES THAT
BEST SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF POTENTIALLY TORNADIC MINI-SUPERCELLS.

CYCLONE.
