CORRECTED WORDING AT THE END OF 2ND PARAGRAPH

ADDITIONAL STRONG/ISOLATED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY APPEARS
POSSIBLE THROUGH 06-07Z...MAINLY NEAR AND WEST/SOUTHWEST OF THE
JUNCTION/SAN ANGELO AREAS.

ANOTHER IMPULSE/SPEED MAXIMUM EMANATING FROM THE BROADER SCALE
TROUGH OVER THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES IS NOW IN THE PROCESS OF NOSING
THROUGH THE TEXAS BIG BEND REGION. AND...STRONGER MID-LEVEL
COOLING/LIFT IN THE EXIT REGION OF THIS JET STREAK APPEARS LIKELY TO
OVERSPREAD THE PECOS VALLEY/EDWARDS PLATEAU REGION BETWEEN NOW AND
06-07Z. LATEST SURFACE ANALYSIS AND RADAR IMAGERY INDICATE A
WESTWARD LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE SURGE INTO THIS REGION...WHERE LOWER
LEVELS REMAIN RELATIVELY WARM DESPITE THE ONSET OF NOCTURNAL
COOLING.

MID-LEVEL COOLING MAY OFFSET ANY ADDITIONAL LOW-LEVEL COOLING DURING
THE NEXT FEW HOURS...MAINTAINING AT LEAST WEAK CONDITIONAL
INSTABILITY WITH MOST UNSTABLE CAPE ON THE ORDER OF 500 J/KG. IN
CLOSER PROXIMITY TO THE 50+ KT MID-LEVEL JET AXIS...DEEP LAYER SHEAR
ALONG/WEST OF A 30-40 KT SOUTHERLY LOW-LEVEL JET WILL BE SUFFICIENT
FOR SUPERCELLS. LOW MID-LEVEL RELATIVE HUMIDITIES WILL CONTINUE TO
ENHANCE EVAPORATIVE COOLING NEAR HEAVY RAIN CORES... WHICH COULD
STILL CONTRIBUTE TO LOCALLY DAMAGING WIND GUSTS. BUT...THE RISK FOR
LARGE HAIL WILL PROBABLY BECOME THE PRIMARY SEVERE THREAT...AS
SURFACE COOLING CONTINUES INTO THE OVERNIGHT HOURS.

DAY1SVR: Day 1 Convective Outlook

ACUS01 KWNS 100051
SWODY1
SPC AC 100048

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0748 PM CDT SUN MAR 09 2008

VALID 100100Z - 101200Z

..THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS TONIGHT OVER PORTIONS OF
W-CNTRL TX...

..WRN/CNTRL TX...

TSTMS ARE IN PROGRESS THIS EVENING FROM W-CNTRL TX TO JUST NW OF THE
METROPLEX ALONG QUASI-STATIONARY BOUNDARY OR INVERTED TROUGH WHICH
EXTENDS FROM SURFACE LOW NEAR THE PECOS RIVER E OF FST NEWD INTO
N-CNTRL TX. THE MOST INTENSE STORM WHICH HAS EXHIBITED SOME
SUPERCELL CHARACTERISTICS OVER MITCHELL AND NOLAN COUNTIES IS
OCCURRING IN A THERMODYNAMIC ENVIRONMENT OF STEEP LAPSE RATES
THROUGH THE LOWEST 6 KM AGL AND RESULTANT SBCAPES OF AROUND 1000
J/KG. MOREOVER...THIS ACTIVITY IS OCCURRING ALONG THE NRN FRINGE OF
STRONGER MIDLEVEL FLOW /40-50 KT AT 500 MB/ WHICH IS RESULTING IN
SUFFICIENT DEEP LAYER SHEAR FOR UPDRAFT ORGANIZATION/ROTATION.

LATEST SHORT TERM MODEL GUIDANCE INDICATES THAT A SLY LLJ WILL BE
MAINTAINED TONIGHT FROM SRN INTO CNTRL TX IN RESPONSE TO WEAKENING
LEAD SHORT WAVE TROUGH LIFTING NEWD FROM WRN TX INTO THE RED RIVER
VALLEY. THIS LLJ SHOULD SUPPORT A CONTINUED MOISTENING TO BOUNDARY
LAYER ACROSS W-CNTRL AND CNTRL TX OVERNIGHT WITH AIR MASS REMAINING
AT LEAST WEAKLY UNSTABLE...DESPITE THE ONSET OF NOCTURNAL COOLING.
AS SUCH...EXPECT TSTMS TO CONTINUE...PERHAPS EVEN GROW UPSCALE INTO
CLUSTERS WITHIN PERSISTENT LOW-LEVEL WAA REGIME. THE PRESENCE OF
THE STEEP LAPSE RATES AND MODERATELY STRONG VERTICAL SHEAR INDICATE
A CONTINUED THREAT OF MARGINALLY SEVERE HAIL AND LOCALLY GUSTY WINDS
WITH THE MOST INTENSE STORMS.

MESO: Mesoscale Discussion 0386

ACUS11 KWNS 092320

SPC MCD 092319
TXZ000-100115-

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0386
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0619 PM CDT SUN MAR 09 2008

AREAS AFFECTED...PARTS OF W CNTRL INTO NW/N CNTRL TX

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 092319Z - 100115Z

STORMS WILL CONTINUE TO INCREASE IN COVERAGE THROUGH 01-02Z. THOUGH
AT LEAST A BRIEF RISK FOR LOCALLY STRONG/DAMAGING WINDS MAY
EXIST...OVERALL THREAT STILL APPEARS MARGINAL ENOUGH THAT A WATCH
MAY NOT BE NEEDED.

AN INCREASE IN CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT IS NOW UNDERWAY. THIS APPEARS
TO BE IN RESPONSE TO FORCING ASSOCIATED WITH AN INCREASINGLY SHEARED
CIRCULATION EMANATING FROM A BROADER SCALE SOUTHERN BRANCH TROUGH
OVER THE SOUTHERN ROCKIES. AS STRONGER UPPER JET MAXIMA CONTINUE TO
DIG INTO THE SOUTHERN/SOUTHWESTERN PERIPHERY OF THIS TROUGH...THE
LEAD IMPULSE IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE TO SLOWLY LIFT OUT OF WEST
CENTRAL TEXAS TOWARD NORTH CENTRAL TEXAS THROUGH EARLY EVENING.

WITHIN ONLY A WEAKLY CONFLUENT UPPER FLOW REGIME...FORCING WITH THIS
FEATURE IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN FAIRLY VIGOROUS...AND SUPPORTIVE OF AN
EXPANDING CONVECTIVE CLUSTER IN THE PRESENCE OF A WEAKLY UNSTABLE
AND WEAK TO MODERATELY SHEARED FLOW REGIME. AS DECOUPLING OF THE
MIXED BOUNDARY LAYER...WITH CAPE ON THE ORDER OF 500
J/KG...COMMENCES TOWARD 00-01Z...GUIDANCE IS SUGGESTIVE THAT A 30-35
KT SOUTHERLY LOW-LEVEL JET WILL DEVELOP ACROSS WEST CENTRAL TEXAS.
AND...THIS WILL MAINTAIN A STEADILY MOISTENING INFLOW INTO
CONVECTION...WITH LOW-LEVEL CONVERGENCE BECOMING FOCUSED NEAR
ABILENE.

GIVEN THE UNSATURATED NATURE OF THE LOWER/MID-LEVELS...AND THE
PRESENCE OF RELATIVELY STEEP MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES...EVAPORATIVE
COOLING NEAR A GROWING/CONSOLIDATING PRECIPITATION CORE COULD BECOME
SUPPORTIVE OF A LOCALIZED DOWNBURST...BEFORE MORE RAPID BOUNDARY
LAYER COOLING REDUCES DAMAGING WIND POTENTIAL LATER THIS EVENING.
UNTIL THEN...MARGINALLY SEVERE HAIL WILL ALSO REMAIN A RISK NEAR
HEAVIER PRECIPITATION CORES.

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0385
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0344 PM CDT SUN MAR 09 2008

AREAS AFFECTED...NORTHWEST TX

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 092044Z - 092245Z

THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP OVER PARTS OF NWRN TX
SOMEWHERE IN THE 21Z-00Z TIME FRAME GENERALLY IN AN AREA BETWEEN
ABILENE AND MINERAL WELLS. HAIL FROM 3/4 TO 1 INCH APPEARS TO BE THE
PRIMARY THREAT...BUT ISOLATED STRONG WIND GUSTS MAY ALSO BE
POSSIBLE. SEVERE POTENTIAL DOES NOT APPEAR SUFFICIENT TO WARRANT A
WW AT THIS TIME...BUT AREA WILL CONTINUE TO BE MONITORED.

THIS AFTERNOON A QUASISTATIONARY FRONT EXTENDS FROM SWRN TX NEWD
THROUGH NWRN TX FROM NEAR ABILENE TO NEAR GRAHAM AND INTO SERN OK.
MODIFIED CP AIR HAS BEEN RETURNING NWD ALONG LOW LEVEL JET AXIS WITH
MID TO UPPER 40S DEWPOINTS ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE FRONT. AS THE
BOUNDARY LAYER CONTINUES TO WARM...MLCAPE WILL APPROACH 500 J/KG
OVER NWRN TX WHERE STEEPER MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES HAVE OVERSPREAD THE
RETURNING MOIST AXIS. BOUNDARY LAYER CUMULUS IS INCREASING WITHIN
ZONE OF LOW LEVEL CONVERGENCE ON NOSE OF LOW LEVEL JET AND IN
VICINITY OF THE BOUNDARY BETWEEN ABILENE AND MINERAL WELLS.
HOWEVER...THE ATMOSPHERE STILL APPEARS CAPPED TO SURFACE BASED
STORMS. SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS MOSTLY MID TO HIGH LEVEL CLOUDS
DEVELOPING OVER WRN TX WITHIN ZONE OF UPWARD VERTICAL MOTION
ATTENDING AN EWD ADVANCING SHORTWAVE TROUGH. THIS ASCENT WILL
EVENTUALLY OVERTAKE THE LOW LEVEL MOIST AXIS AND ZONE OF LOW LEVEL
FORCING ALONG FRONT. AS THIS OCCURS...THE CAP WILL WEAKEN AND
THERMODYNAMIC PROFILES WILL BECOME INCREASINGLY FAVORABLE FOR
THUNDERSTORMS. EFFECTIVE BULK SHEAR AROUND 40 KT WILL BE SUFFICIENT
FOR UPDRAFT ROTATION WITH LARGE HAIL THE MAIN THREAT. HOWEVER...THE
MODEST LOW LEVEL MOISTURE AND MARGINAL INSTABILITY SHOULD SERVE AS A
LIMITING FACTOR FOR A MORE ROBUST SEVERE THREAT.

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0248 PM CDT SUN MAR 09 2008

VALID 092000Z - 101200Z

..THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS ACROSS PART OF WEST AND CENTRAL
TX...

..WRN/CENTRAL TX...
MODIFIED CP AIR MASS WILL CONTINUE TO RETURN NWD FROM S INTO CENTRAL
TX THIS FORECAST PERIOD. EARLY AFTERNOON SURFACE ANALYSIS SHOWED
DEWPOINTS IN THE MID 40S ALONG THE PORTION OF THE INVERTED TROUGH
THAT EXTENDED FROM NORTH CENTRAL TO NW TX...WITH A DRIER AIR MASS
NOTED FARTHER WSWWD ALONG THIS BOUNDARY INTO SW TX. ELEVATED MIXED
LAYER WHICH EXTENDED EWD ATOP THE MOISTURE RETURN HAS THUS FAR
CAPPED THE AIR MASS ACROSS TX THIS AFTERNOON...WITH SLIGHTLY MORE
SUSTAINED UPDRAFTS ALONG THE INVERTED TROUGH FROM ABI TO MWL WHERE
CONVERGENCE IS GREATEST.

A LEAD SHORT WAVE TROUGH...CURRENTLY LOCATED OVER ERN NM/W TX...WILL
SPREAD ENEWD AND SHOULD WEAKEN AS IT REACHES THE RED RIVER VALLEY
LATE TONIGHT...WHILE UPSTREAM IMPULSE/JET STREAK DIGS ESEWD TO NRN
MEXICO. ASCENT WITH LEAD IMPULSE INDICATED BY COOLING CLOUD TOPS
ACROSS W TX ATTM COMBINED WITH STEEP LAPSE RATES WILL SPREAD EWD
ATOP RETURNING MOISTURE AND MAY PROVE ADEQUATE FOR ROBUST TSTM
DEVELOPMENT BETWEEN 22-00Z IN VICINITY OF INVERTED TROUGH IN NW TX.
RECENT INCREASE IN EFFECTIVE BULK SHEAR /UP TO 40 KT/ AS STRONGER
MID LEVEL WINDS SPREAD EWD WITH LEAD TROUGH WILL SUPPORT ORGANIZED
STORMS...WITH HAIL AND STRONG WIND GUSTS BEING THE PRIMARY THREATS.

DESPITE LOSS OF HEATING THIS EVENING...FURTHER STRENGTHENING OF SLY
LLJ...AS UPSTREAM TROUGH DIGS ESEWD...WILL MAINTAIN MOISTURE INFLUX/
WAA WITH TSTMS BECOMING MORE ELEVATED WITH TIME AND DEVELOPING TO
THE ESE TOWARD THE TX BIG BEND/HILL COUNTRY AND CENTRAL/NORTH
CENTRAL TX AFTER DARK. EFFECTIVE BULK SHEAR VALUES SHOULD REMAIN
SUFFICIENT FOR A HAIL THREAT...ESPECIALLY TOWARD THE HILL COUNTRY/
BIG BEND REGION AS STRONGER FLOW ALOFT SHIFTS SWD.

SWODY2
SPC AC 091726

DAY 2 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1226 PM CDT SUN MAR 09 2008

VALID 101200Z - 111200Z

..NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

..TX...
POSITIVELY-TILTED UPPER TROUGH...CURRENTLY LOCATED OVER THE SWRN
STATES...SHOULD EXTEND FROM THE SRN PLAINS TO NRN MEXICO BY 12Z
MONDAY AS WRN MOST EMBEDDED IMPULSE/JET STREAK NOW OVER AZ DIGS SEWD
INTO NRN MEXICO DURING DAY 1. THE MAIN UPPER TROUGH IS FORECAST TO
DE-AMPLIFY SOME ON MONDAY AS IT TRACKS EWD REACHING THE OZARKS TO TX
COASTAL PLAIN BY 12Z TUESDAY. IN THE LOW LEVELS...ATTENDANT SURFACE
LOW SHOULD REMAIN OVER THE MEXICAN-SIDE OF THE LOWER RIO GRANDE
VALLEY AS IT TRACKS SEWD FROM NRN COAHUILA. INVERTED TROUGH
INITIALLY EXTENDING NEWD THROUGH DRT TO NERN TX AT 12Z MONDAY WILL
SPREAD SEWD REACHING THE TX COAST BY MONDAY EVENING /11/00Z/...
PRIOR TO MOVING INTO THE WRN GULF. A SECOND SURFACE LOW MAY FORM
ACROSS THE MIDDLE TX COASTAL PLAIN AT THE INTERSECTION OF THE SEWD
MOVING INVERTED TROUGH AND WRN EXTENT OF WARM FRONT...WITH THIS LOW
TRACKING INTO THE NWRN GULF MONDAY NIGHT.

ALTHOUGH MOISTURE RETURN WILL SUPPORT SURFACE DEWPOINTS IN THE LOWER
60S...MODEST LAPSE RATES AROUND 7 C/KM WILL TEND TO RESULT IN WEAK
SBCAPE AOB 700 J/KG. ASCENT ATTENDANT TO APPROACHING SWRN STATES
TROUGH AND WEAK LOW LEVEL WAA SHOULD MAINTAIN ANAFRONT-TYPE
CONVECTION AS THE INVERTED TROUGH SPREADS SEWD. THIS ASCENT AND
SURFACE HEATING ARE EXPECTED TO SUPPORT SURFACE-BASED TSTMS IN THE
MIDDLE AND LOWER TX COASTAL REGIONS. STRONG BAND OF SWLY MID LEVEL
WINDS EXTENDING ACROSS THE MOIST AXIS WILL CONTRIBUTE TO EFFECTIVE
BULK SHEAR FOR ORGANIZED STORMS. HOWEVER...MODEST LAPSE RATES/WEAK
INSTABILITY SHOULD LIMIT THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT AS INDICATED BY
THE INITIAL DAY 2 OUTLOOK FOR THIS REGION PRIOR TO THE INVERTED
TROUGH MOVING OFFSHORE MONDAY NIGHT. SLY LOW LEVEL WINDS ARE
FORECAST TO WEAKEN THROUGH DAY 2 PERIOD WHICH WILL TEND TO LIMIT
CONVERGENCE AND LOW LEVEL SHEAR FOR MORE ROBUST TSTM DEVELOPMENT. A
FEW STRONGER STORMS MAY PRODUCE MARGINALLY SEVERE HAIL OR PERHAPS
WINDS APPROACHING SEVERE LEVELS. DESPITE THE WEAK LOW LEVEL
WINDS...WINDS VEERING WITH HEIGHT AND ENHANCED SHEAR IN VICINITY OF
SECONDARY LOW COULD PRODUCE AN ISOLATED TORNADO.

..SOUTH FL...
WEAK WAA REGIME ACROSS S FL IN ADVANCE OF SUB-TROPICAL IMPULSE
TRACKING EWD ACROSS THE GULF TO FL ON DAY 2 SUGGESTS POTENTIAL FOR A
FEW TSTMS ACROSS THIS REGION. POOR LAPSE RATE ENVIRONMENT AND WEAK
LOW LEVEL CONVERGENCE SHOULD LIMIT THE INLAND TSTM THREAT...WITH
GREATER POTENTIAL IN THE FL STRAITS WHERE INSTABILITY WILL BE A
LITTLE STRONGER OVER THE WARMER WATERS.
