AREAS AFFECTED...WRN FL PENINSULA

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 260153Z - 260330Z

A THREAT FOR ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS WILL BE POSSIBLE ALONG THE
CNTRL COAST OF WRN FL THIS EVENING. THE SEVERE THREAT IS EXPECTED TO
REMAIN TOO MARGINAL TO WARRANT WW ISSUANCE.

A NEARLY CONTINUOUS LINE OF THUNDERSTORMS FROM NEAR OCALA TO ABOUT
50 MILES NORTH OF TAMPA BAY EXTENDING OFFSHORE WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE
INLAND OVER THE NEXT 1 TO 2 HOURS. ALTHOUGH VERY LITTLE INSTABILITY
IS PRESENT ACROSS THE FL PENINSULA...MODEL FORECASTS QUICKLY
INCREASE LOW-LEVEL FLOW AS A JET NEAR 850 MB MOVES INTO WRN FL THIS
EVENING. THIS INCREASE IN LOW-LEVEL FLOW SHOULD TAKE PLACE OVER THE
NEXT 1 TO 2 HOURS POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A TEMPORARY INTENSIFICATION
OF THE LINE. ISOLATED WIND DAMAGE WOULD BE THE MAIN THREAT WITH THE
THREAT CONCENTRATED AROUND THE TAMPA BAY AREA. ANY POTENTIAL FOR
STRONG WIND GUSTS WOULD REMAIN MARGINAL DUE TO THE LACK OF
INSTABILITY.

...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

...LWR TN RVR VLY...
SEGMENTED BANDS OF TSTMS CONTINUE TO THRIVE ALONG/AHEAD OF AN EWD
MOVING DRYLINE/TROUGH FROM MIDDLE TN INTO CNTRL AL AT SUNSET.
STRONGEST STORMS HAVE BEEN FAVORING THE NRN PORTION OF A WEAK
INSTABILITY AXIS AND IN CONJUNCTION WITH STRONGEST DEEP-LAYER
ASCENT. UVV MAX WILL BEGIN TO MOVE AWAY FROM THE REGION THIS
EVENING AND THE CURRENT SFC-BASED TSTMS WILL EVENTUALLY MOVE INTO A
COOLER AND DRIER AIR MASS OVER THE CUMBERLAND PLATEAU/NWRN GA
THROUGH MID-EVENING. THERE IS A LOW PROBABILITY OF AN ISOLD
TORNADO/DMGG WIND GUST ACROSS THE WRN CUMBERLAND PLATEAU AND
PORTIONS OF NE/ECNTRL AL THROUGH ABOUT 02Z.

...CNTRL/NRN FL...
PER 00Z TPA SOUNDING...THE AIR MASS AHEAD OF THE LINEAR MCS HAS
MOISTENED DURING THE DAY...BUT RELATIVELY WARM MID-TROPOSPHERIC
TEMPERATURE PROFILES ARE TEMPERING INSTABILITY. SUFFICIENT
INSTABILITY WILL EXIST OVER THE PENINSULA TO SUPPORT THE LINE OF
STORMS AS IT MOVES ESE ACROSS NRN/CNTRL FL...HOWEVER. TEMPORAL
VEERING OF THE SFC/MID-LAYER FLOW MAY SUPPORT ISOLD EMBEDDED BOWING
SEGMENTS THAT COULD PRODUCE DMGG WIND GUSTS...PARTICULARLY IN AREAS
WHERE THE MORE ROBUST BOUNDARY LAYER HEATING OCCURRED THIS AFTN.

AREAS AFFECTED...SW KY...SE MO...FAR NE AR...WRN TN...NRN MS...NW AL

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 35...

VALID 252150Z - 252315Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 35
CONTINUES.

AN ISOLATED SEVERE THREAT ONGOING IN THE SRN AND CNTRL PART OF WW 35
APPEARS LIKELY TO CONTINUE THROUGH WATCH EXPIRATION AT 00Z. THE
GREATEST SEVERE THREAT IS EXPECTED TO SHIFT EWD INTO MIDDLE TN AND
ACROSS NW AL LATE THIS AFTERNOON. HAIL AND ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND
GUSTS WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THE STRONG CORES. THE SEVERE THREAT
SHOULD BECOME ISOLATED THIS EVENING AND A WW IS NOT ANTICIPATED EAST
OF WW 35.

NUMEROUS DISCRETE THUNDERSTORMS ARE ONGOING ACROSS THE TN VALLEY
WITH THE STRONGER STORMS ORGANIZED ALONG A COLD FRONT EXTENDING SWD
FROM A LOW IN SW KY. SFC ANALYSIS SHOWS A VERY NARROW CORRIDOR OF
LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE WITH SFC DEWPOINTS ONLY IN THE MID 50S F. THIS IS
LIMITING INSTABILITY ACROSS THE REGION. HOWEVER...LIFT IS QUITE
STRONG ACROSS THE TN VALLEY DUE TO A SHORTWAVE TROUGH AND
WELL-DEFINED EXIT REGION OF THE MID-LEVEL JET. IN ADDITION...THE
MID-LEVEL JET IS CREATING STRONG DEEP LAYER SHEAR PROFILES FAVORABLE
FOR SEVERE STORMS. THE SHEAR COMBINED WITH RELATIVELY STEEP
MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES WILL LIKELY CONTINUE TO SUPPORT A THREAT FOR
HAIL WITH THE STRONGER CORES. BOUNDARY LAYER FLOW IS FORECAST TO
INCREASE OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS AS A LOW-LEVEL JET STRENGTHENS.
THIS MAY AID THE WIND DAMAGE POTENTIAL ESPECIALLY IF A PERSISTENT
LINE-SEGMENT CAN DEVELOP.

DAY1SVR: Day 1 Convective Outlook

ACUS01 KWNS 251948
SWODY1
SPC AC 251946

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0246 PM CDT THU MAR 25 2010

VALID 252000Z - 261200Z

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS ACROSS THE MID-SOUTH/TN
VALLEY...

...MID-SOUTH/TN VALLEY...
AS A SHORTWAVE TROUGH QUICKLY ADVANCES NORTHEASTWARD FROM THE MS
RIVER/MID-SOUTH TO THE TN VALLEY TONIGHT...ARCING/BROKEN BANDS OF
LOW-TOPPED TSTMS/INCLUDING SOME SEVERE WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP
ALONG/EAST OF LOWER OH VALLEY SURFACE LOW AND ASSOCIATED SOUTHWARD
EXTENDING OCCLUDED FRONT. PRIMARY THREAT WOULD APPEAR TO BE DAMAGING
WINDS...WITH SOME CONCERN FOR SEVERE HAIL/PERHAPS A BRIEF TORNADO
RISK AS WELL LATE THIS AFTERNOON. CONSIDERABLE DRYING ALOFT PER
WATER VAPOR IMAGERY AND WEAKENING LOW LEVEL CONVERGENCE LIMITS
CONFIDENCE IN THE SOUTHWARD EXTENT OF DEVELOPMENT ACROSS EASTERN MS
AND AL TOWARD/SOUTH OF I-20...BUT AT LEAST A CONDITIONAL SEVERE
THREAT WILL EXIST IN THESE AREAS THROUGH LATE AFTERNOON/EARLY
EVENING.

...FL...
NORTHEAST-SOUTHWEST ORIENTED SQUALL LINE WILL CONTINUE TO PROGRESS
EASTWARD ACROSS THE FL PANHANDLE/ADJACENT GULF OF MEXICO THIS
AFTERNOON. THE PRE-SQUALL LINE AIRMASS WILL NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY
TO APPRECIABLY MOISTEN/DESTABILIZE ACROSS FL...BUT THE
SEMI-ORGANIZED NATURE OF THE CONVECTIVE LINE AND STRENGTHENING DEEP
LAYER FLOW THROUGH TONIGHT IMPLIES SOME POTENTIAL FOR A SEVERE
THREAT TO INCREASE LATE THIS AFTERNOON...OR MORE SO TONIGHT ACROSS
FL PENINSULA. NOTHING MORE THAN LOW SEVERE PROBABILITIES APPEAR
WARRANTED HOWEVER.

..GUYER.. 03/25/2010

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 1122 AM CDT THU MAR 25 2010/

...LOWER MS AND TN VALLEYS...
SRN PLAINS VIGOROUS MID LEVEL VORT/COLD POOL HAS MOVED AT 15Z INTO
SWRN AR AND WILL TRACK ENEWD ACROSS LOWER MS VALLEY THIS AFTERNOON.
ASSOCIATED SURFACE LOW NRN AR WILL MOVE INTO SWRN KY WITH SOME
DEEPENING THIS AFTERNOON AS COLD FRONT SWEEPS EWD ACROSS MS RIVER
INTO WRN TN VALLEY.

INITIAL LIMITING PARAMETER FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS TODAY IS
INSTABILITY. HOWEVER WITH THE CLEARING THAT HAS SPREAD EWD INTO WRN
MS AND NERN AR IN THE DRY SLOT AHEAD OF COLD FRONT...COMBINED WITH
THE STRONG COLD ADVECTION AND VIGOROUS LARGE SCALE ASCENT ASSOCIATED
WITH THE MID LEVEL VORT/UPPER LOW...IT NOW APPEARS THAT PRIOR TO
FROPA THIS INSTABILITY WILL BE SUFFICIENT TO SUPPORT LOW TOPPED
THUNDERSTORMS WITH THE STRONG VEERING SHEAR PROFILES RAISING THE
CONCERN FOR SUPERCELLS.

AS TEMPS WARM THRU THE 60S ACROSS MS INTO SWRN TN AND DEWPOINTS
REMAIN IN THE MID/UPPER 50S...MLCAPES WILL INCREASE TO ABOVE 500 J/G
WHICH UNDER THE STRONG MID LEVEL COLD ADVECTION WILL REMOVE ANY CINH
BY EARLY/MID AFTERNOON. THUNDERSTORMS WILL DEVELOP ALONG/AHEAD OF
THE FRONT AS IT CROSSES MS RIVER INTO SWRN TN/NRN MS WITH WIND
DAMAGE THE PRIMARY THREAT GIVEN THE 60-70KT OF DEEP LAYER SHEAR AND
NOTICEABLE MID LEVEL DRYING ACCOMPANYING THE 90KT 500 MB WIND MAX.
HOWEVER IT NOW APPEARS THERE WILL BE SUFFICIENT INSTABILITY
AVAILABLE TO RAISE THE THREAT OF AT LEAST AN ISOLATED
SUPERCELL/TORNADO THREAT THIS AFTERNOON INTO PORTIONS OF TN/NRN AL
AND NERN MS.

ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE POLAR JET...LAPSE RATES WILL BE WEAKER AND
INSTABILITY LESS. THIS SHOULD PRECLUDE AN ORGANIZED SEVERE THREAT
WITH THE COLD FRONT NEARER THE GULF COAST.

VIGOROUS THUNDERSTORMS OVER NRN GULF SHOULD PRIMARILY REMAIN
OFFSHORE GIVEN THE EXPECTED LIMITED AMOUNT OF INSTABILITY THAT WILL
BE ABLE TO DEVELOP WITH LITTLE IN THE WAY OF SURFACE HEATING AND THE
UPPER SYSTEM WELL TO THE N.

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 250715Z - 250815Z

THE THREAT FOR ISOLATED DAMAGING WINDS MAY CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT
HOUR OR SO WITH ONGOING CONVECTIVE LINE. THEREAFTER...SYSTEM IS
EXPECTED TO MOVE INTO A PROGRESSIVELY DRIER AND MORE STABLE
ENVIRONMENT. A WW IS NOT ANTICIPATED.

QLCS WHICH EVOLVED EARLIER OVER ERN TX HAS SINCE ACCELERATED TO
50-55 KT WHILE PROGRESSING THROUGH NWRN LA. WHILE RUC FORECAST
SOUNDINGS INDICATE THE PRESENCE OF A STABLE BOUNDARY LAYER AND
RESIDUAL CAP ASSOCIATED WITH EML /REF. 25/00Z SHV SOUNDING FOR THE
PRESENCE OF THIS FEATURE/...REPORTS OF WIND DAMAGE HAVE BEEN
RECENTLY RECEIVED. SHV BASE VELOCITY DATA INDICATE CHANNELS OF HIGH
MOMENTUM FLOW OVER SRN CLAIBORNE AND BIENVILLE PARISHES AS OF
0705Z...AND THESE AREAS ARE LIKELY WHERE THE GREATEST THREATS FOR
LOCALLY DAMAGING WIND GUSTS EXIST.

06Z MESOANALYSIS INDICATES QLCS IS CURRENTLY MOVING THROUGH THE AXIS
OF HIGHEST BOUNDARY LAYER DEWPOINTS /I.E. 60-63 F/...WITH DECREASING
MOISTURE CONTENT EWD INTO W-CNTRL MS. MCS MAY WELL CONTINUE EWD
THROUGH NERN LA INTO W-CNTRL MS BETWEEN 08-10Z. HOWEVER...BASED ON

DAY 3 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0206 AM CDT THU MAR 25 2010

VALID 271200Z - 281200Z

...SYNOPSIS...

STRONG SHORTWAVE TROUGH MOVING THROUGH THE SRN PLAINS AS OF EARLY
THURSDAY MORNING WILL BE FOLLOWED CLOSELY BY ANOTHER UPPER TROUGH
THAT IS NOW APPROACHING THE PACIFIC NW. THIS FEATURE WILL REACH THE
SRN PLAINS SATURDAY AND CONTINUE INTO THE LOWER MS VALLEY SATURDAY
NIGHT. A STRONG CYCLONE IS FORECAST TO DEVELOP OVER THE HIGH PLAINS
EARLY SATURDAY IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE APPROACHING TROUGH. THE LOW
WILL LIKELY MOVE EWD THROUGH OK OR SRN KS DURING THE DAY...REACHING
THE LOWER-MID MS VALLEY AREA SATURDAY NIGHT ACCOMPANIED BY TRAILING
COLD FRONT THAT WILL MOVE THROUGH THE SRN PLAINS DURING THE DAY.

...SERN KS...ERN OK...NERN TX...AR AND NRN LA...

THE SHORT WAVELENGTH BETWEEN SUCCESSIVE UPPER TROUGHS WILL LIMIT
QUALITY OF MOISTURE RETURN FROM THE GULF. THE STRONG LOW LEVEL JET
DEVELOPING EAST OF LEE CYCLONE WILL TRANSPORT MODIFIED CP AIR WITH
DEWPOINTS IN THE UPPER 40S TO LOW 50S NWD THROUGH THE SRN PLAINS
PRE-FRONTAL WARM SECTOR...BENEATH EWD ADVECTING PLUME OF STEEPER
LAPSE RATES. THIS PROCESS AND COLD TEMPERATURES ALOFT ACCOMPANYING
THE SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL CONTRIBUTE TO DESTABILIZATION DURING THE
DAY OVER ERN PARTS OF THE SRN PLAINS...BUT INSTABILITY WILL LIKELY
REMAIN WEAK DUE TO THE LIMITED MOISTURE RETURN. WARM SECTOR WILL BE
STRONGLY CAPPED. HOWEVER...DEEP AND STRONG FORCING ALONG PORTION OF
ADVANCING FRONT LOCATED WITHIN UPPER JET EXIT REGION WILL LIKELY
RESULT IN THUNDERSTORM INITIATION FROM SERN KS THROUGH ERN OK AND
NERN TX. THE CONVECTION WILL BE EMBEDDED WITHIN 40-50 KT DEEP-LAYER
SHEAR...AND ISOLATED HAIL AND STRONG WIND GUSTS COULD ACCOMPANY THE
STRONGER STORMS. GIVEN AN EXPECTED MARGINAL THERMODYNAMIC
ENVIRONMENT...ONLY 5% SEVERE PROBABILITIES WILL BE INTRODUCED AT
THIS TIME.

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE

...MID-SOUTH/LWR MS VLY TO THE TN RVR VLY...
THE UPR LOW MOVING ACROSS OK IS EXPECTED TO OPEN INTO A WAVE AND
EJECT ENE ACROSS THE REGION DURING THE AFTN. AN EXTENSIVE AND
SOMEWHAT DISJOINTED WARM CONVEYOR WILL BE DRIVING A LARGE BATCH OF
CONVECTION AT THE START OF THE PERIOD ACROSS THE LWR MS VLY INTO THE
TN VLY. WHILE SMALL HAIL MAY ACCOMPANY THIS ACTIVITY DURING THE
MORNING...PRIMARY SVR THREAT MAY EVOLVE UPSTREAM DURING THE AFTN.

IN WAKE OF THE MORNING ACTIVITY...RECYCLED MOISTURE AND NWD
TRANSPORT OF A MODIFIED GULF ENVIRONMENT WILL ESTABLISH A CORRIDOR
OF MID-50S TO LWR-60S DEW POINTS FROM THE MID-SOUTH TO THE LWR MS
VLY. ALTHOUGH STEEPER MID-LVL LAPSE RATES ASSOCD WITH THE LOW WILL
SPREAD ATOP THIS MOISTURE...QUESTIONS REMAIN ON MAGNITUDE OF AFTN
HEATING ALONG THE BACK EDGE OF THE PRIMARY WARM CONVEYOR. AT THIS
POINT...IT APPEARS MLCAPES OF 500-1000 J/KG MAY MATERIALIZE WITH
SFC-BASED TSTM INITIATION POSSIBLE BY EARLY AFTN OVER ERN AR INVOF A
CDFNT/DRYLINE...WITH SUBSEQUENT DEVELOPMENT ESE INTO NRN/ERN MS AND
NE TOWARD WRN/MIDDLE TN BY MID-LATE AFTN. LOW/MID-LVL FLOW WILL
HAVE VEERED CONSIDERABLY BY AFTN...BUT SUFFICIENTLY SHEARED TO
SUPPORT SUPERCELLS WITH LARGE HAIL AND DMGG WINDS. ACTIVITY WILL
PROBABLY EVOLVE INTO CLUSTERS/LINES LATER IN THE AFTN AS IT MOVES
INTO AL. THE SEVERE RISK WILL DECREASE WITH EWD EXTENT AND TIME.

...CNTRL/NRN FL...
TSTMS EMBEDDED ALONG THE TAIL-END OF THE SUBTROPICAL WARM CONVEYOR
WILL THRIVE ACROSS THE NRN/ERN GULF BASIN WHERE HIGHER-QUALITY
THETA-E WILL EXIST THURSDAY AFTN/NIGHT. VEERING WSW FLOW WILL
TRANSPORT SOME OF THIS MOISTURE INTO CNTRL/NRN FL BY THURSDAY
NIGHT...THOUGH DIURNAL COOLING WILL LIKELY OFFSET APPRECIABLE
DESTABILIZATION. AS SUCH...TSTMS WILL PROBABLY TEND TO WEAKEN AS
THEY MOVE OFF THE ERN GULF LOOP CURRENT TOWARD THE PENINSULA DURING
THE NIGHT...THOUGH AN ISOLD SVR STORM WILL BE POSSIBLE IN THE
INCREASING SHEAR.

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

...SYNOPSIS...

UPPER TROUGH CENTERED OVER THE TX PANHANDLE AS OF WEDNESDAY EVENING
WILL UNDERGO DEAMPLIFICATION AS IT ADVANCES THROUGH THE SERN STATES
THURSDAY THEN INTO THE CAROLINAS AND OFF THE ATLANTIC SEABOARD EARLY
FRIDAY. FARTHER UPSTREAM...A SHORTWAVE TROUGH WILL MOVE THROUGH THE
CNTRL AND SRN ROCKIES REACHING THE SRN AND CNTRL HIGH PLAINS FRIDAY
NIGHT. AT THE SURFACE A COLD FRONT WILL EXIT THE COASTAL CAROLINAS
FRIDAY MORNING...WHILE TRAILING PORTIONS OF THIS BOUNDARY CONTINUES
SEWD THROUGH THE FL PENINSULA. DEEPENING LEE CYCLONE AND TRAILING
PACIFIC FRONT WILL ACCOMPANY THE SHORTWAVE TROUGH INTO THE SRN
PLAINS FRIDAY NIGHT.

...FL PENINSULA...

CONVECTION MAY STILL BE IN PROGRESS ALONG AND JUST AHEAD OF THE
FRONT ACROSS CNTRL FL EARLY FRIDAY. LOW-LEVEL WINDS WILL VEER AND
GRADUALLY WEAKEN IN WAKE OF DEAMPLIFYING UPPER TROUGH AS IT EXITS
THE ATLANTIC SEABOARD...BUT 40 KT UNIDIRECTIONAL DEEP LAYER SHEAR
WILL PERSIST IN THE WARM SECTOR. MOIST AXIS WITH DEWPOINTS IN THE
MID-UPPER 60S WILL HAVE ADVECTED THROUGH S FL. HOWEVER...FORECAST
SOUNDINGS INDICATE RELATIVELY WARM TEMPERATURES AND DRY AIR BETWEEN
600-500 MB...IMPLYING LARGE SCALE SUBSIDENCE. THIS WILL RESULT IN
WEAK LAPSE RATES AND A MARGINAL THERMODYNAMIC ENVIRONMENT DESPITE
SOME POTENTIAL FOR DIABATIC WARMING OF THE MOIST BOUNDARY LAYER. A
FEW STORMS COULD REDEVELOP ALONG AND AHEAD OF THE COLD FRONT DURING
THE AFTERNOON. DESPITE PRESENCE OF 40 KT WLY UNIDIRECTIONAL SHEAR
THAT WOULD BE SUFFICIENT FOR ROTATING/SPLITTING STORMS...MARGINAL
THERMODYNAMIC PROFILES SHOULD LIMIT THE THREAT FOR ORGANIZED SEVERE
STORMS.
