DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0748 PM CDT MON SEP 15 2008

VALID 160100Z - 161200Z

...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

...SERN CONUS...
EARLY EVENING SURFACE ANALYSIS SHOWED A BOUNDARY EXTENDING FROM SRN
NC WSWWD THROUGH CENTRAL SC TO EAST CENTRAL GA...AND THEN SSWWD TO
THE ERN FL PANHANDLE. MODELS SUGGEST THIS BOUNDARY SHOULD CONTINUE
TO SHIFT SLOWLY SEWD OVERNIGHT AND SHOULD EXTEND FROM THE SRN NC/SC
COAST TO NWRN FL BY 12Z TUESDAY. OBJECTIVE ANALYSES INDICATED
WEAKENING INSTABILITY ACROSS THE WARM SECTOR GIVEN THE LOSS OF DAY
TIME HEATING. THIS TREND IS EXPECTED TO RESULT IN FURTHER DECREASE
IN DEVELOPMENT OF ANY NEW TSTM ACTIVITY ALONG THE SURFACE FRONT AND
SEA BREEZE BOUNDARIES. THERE IS SOME POTENTIAL FOR TSTMS TO FORM
WITHIN A ZONE OF INCREASING WAA/MOIST UPSLOPE FLOW ACROSS THE WRN
CAROLINAS LATER TONIGHT AS NELY-ELY LOW LEVEL WINDS DEVELOP ON THE
NORTH SIDE OF THE SURFACE BOUNDARY.

...SRN ROCKIES...
TSTMS THAT FORMED THIS AFTERNOON OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF SRN CO/
NRN NM INTO ADJACENT PARTS OF THE OK PANHANDLE AND NERN AZ WILL
CONTINUE TO DIMINISH IN AREAL EXTENT AS THE LOSS OF DAY TIME HEATING
STABILIZES THE BOUNDARY LAYER.

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

VALID 152000Z - 161200Z

...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

...SYNOPSIS...
SYNOPTIC PATTERN ALOFT WILL REMAIN CHARACTERIZED BY WRN RIDGING AND
ERN TROUGHING. UPPER LEVEL LOW AND ASSOCIATED SHORTWAVE TROUGH --
EVIDENT IN MOISTURE CHANNEL IMAGERY OVER NRN GULF S OF MOB/PNS AREA
-- IS BECOMING ZONALLY COMPRESSED AND SHOULD WEAKEN THROUGH
PERIOD...BUT STILL MAY SUPPORT RELATIVELY ENHANCED GEN THUNDER
POTENTIAL INVOF SFC FRONTAL ZONE IN THAT REGION. FRONT IS ANALYZED
FROM CANADIAN MARITIMES SWWD OVER CAROLINAS TO MS RIVER MOUTH...AND
IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE MOVING SLOWLY SEWD OVER SRN PIEDMONT REGION
AND E-CENTRAL GULF COASTAL PLAIN THROUGH REMAINDER PERIOD.

...SERN CONUS...
POTENTIAL SHOULD PERSIST FOR SCATTERED TO WIDELY SCATTERED TSTMS
WITHIN SFC FRONTAL ZONE...AS WELL AS ALONG SEA BREEZE AND OUTFLOW
BOUNDARIES IN WARM SECTOR. WEAK LOW-MIDLEVEL WINDS AND RESULTANT
LACK OF VERTICAL SHEAR WILL CURTAIL POTENTIAL FOR ORGANIZED SVR WITH
THIS ACTIVITY. VERY BRIEF/ISOLATED DAMAGING DOWNBURST CANNOT BE
RULED OUT...ESPECIALLY OVER CAROLINAS WHERE 25-30 KT EFFECTIVE SHEAR
MAY AID MULTICELLULAR DEVELOPMENT/MAINTENANCE FOR BRIEF INTERVALS.
HOWEVER...THREAT APPEARS TOO ISOLATED AND MRGL TO WARRANT 5 PERCENT
OR HIGHER SVR PROBABILITIES THIS FCST.

...SRN ROCKIES AND SW CONUS...
WIDELY SCATTERED TSTMS ALREADY HAVE DEVELOPED OVER HIGHER TERRAIN ON
EITHER SIDE OF RIO GRANDE/SAN LUIS VALLEYS FROM SRN CO INTO NRN
NM...IN ENVIRONMENT CHARACTERIZED BY MRGL/RESIDUAL LOW LEVEL
MOISTURE...FAVORABLE HEATING AND WEAK CINH. EXPECT CONVECTION TO
CONTINUE ACROSS THIS REGION THROUGH REMAINDER AFTERNOON...FOLLOWED
BY SHARP DECLINE IN COVERAGE WITH ONSET OF SFC COOLING NEAR SUNSET.
ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT -- ALSO PREFERENTIALLY FAVORING HIGHER
ELEVATIONS -- IS POSSIBLE LATER THIS AFTERNOON AND FARTHER SW ACROSS
PORTIONS SERN AZ AND SWRN NM. WEAK DEEP-LAYER WINDS AND LACK OF
MORE ROBUST BUOYANCY WILL PRECLUDE SVR THREAT IN BOTH AREAS.

SWODY2
SPC AC 151720

DAY 2 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1220 PM CDT MON SEP 15 2008

VALID 161200Z - 171200Z

...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

...SYNOPSIS...
IN MID/UPPER LEVELS...NRN STREAM PATTERN FCST TO DEAMPLIFY SOMEWHAT
AND SHIFT EWD BY END OF PERIOD. HEIGHTS WILL RISE ACROSS MID/UPPER
MS VALLEY AND PORTIONS OH VALLEY REGION IN ADVANCE OF SEWD MOVING
UPPER HIGH NOW CENTERED OVER NRN GREAT BASIN AND INTERIOR PACIFIC NW
REGIONS. THIS HIGH SHOULD MOVE/REDEVELOP SEWD ACROSS CENTRAL
ROCKIES TO S-CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS THROUGH DAY-2. SHORTWAVE TROUGH --
NOW EVIDENT IN MOISTURE CHANNEL IMAGERY OVER MN -- WILL MOVE EWD
FROM WRN OH/ERN LOWER MI AREA AT 16/12Z TO OFFSHORE NEW ENGLAND BY
17/12Z...WHILE WEAKENING CONSIDERABLY. DIFFUSE UPPER TROUGHING WILL
LINGER FROM SRN APPALACHIANS SWWD ACROSS MS DELTA AND WRN GULF COAST
AREAS...THEN WWD OVER SW TX. CURRENTLY CUT-OFF UPPER LOW --
ANALYZED WELL OFFSHORE CENTRAL CA NEAR 37N129W -- SHOULD DEVOLVE TO
OPEN-WAVE TROUGH AND EJECT NEWD ACROSS COASTAL NRN CA LATE THIS
PERIOD IN RESPONSE TO UPPER CYCLOGENESIS TO ITS NW.

AT SFC...COLD FRONTAL ZONE TRAILING SWWD FROM CANADIAN MARITIMES IS
EXPECTED TO MOVE SLOWLY SEWD ACROSS SERN CONUS THROUGH
PERIOD...SETTLING IN NE-SW ALIGNMENT ACROSS COASTAL CAROLINAS
REGION...NRN FL AND NERN GULF.

...SERN CONUS...
SCATTERED TSTMS IN CLUSTERS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP INVOF RESIDUAL
FRONTAL ZONE. WEAK LOW-MIDLEVEL LAPSE RATES AND LIKELIHOOD OF
EXPANSIVE AREA OF CLOUD COVER AND EMBEDDED PRECIP WILL LIMIT
BUOYANCY. HOWEVER...EXPECT THOSE FACTORS TO BE OFFSET BY POCKETS OF
SUFFICIENT SFC HEATING WITH DEW POINTS 70S F...TO YIELD MLCAPES
1000-1500 J/KG RANGE. WEAK LOW-MIDLEVEL WINDS AND RESULTANT LACK OF
SHEAR SHOULD PRECLUDE ORGANIZED SVR POTENTIAL.

...INTERIOR PACIFIC STATES...GREAT BASIN...
ISOLATED TO WIDELY SCATTERED TSTMS POSSIBLE PRIMARILY DURING
AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING HOURS. EXPECT STG SFC HEATING...WEAK
CINH...STEEP LOW-MIDLEVEL LAPSE RATES...AND POCKETS OF AT LEAST
MRGLLY FAVORABLE LOW LEVEL MOISTURE TO SUPPORT HIGH BASED
CB...PARTICULARLY OVER HIGHER TERRAIN.

SWODY1
SPC AC 151607

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1107 AM CDT MON SEP 15 2008

VALID 151630Z - 161200Z

...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

...SOUTHEAST INTO THE GULF COAST REGION...
SURFACE COLD FRONT EXTENDING ROUGHLY FROM THE MID ATLANTIC INTO THE
SRN APPALACHIANS AND CENTRAL GULF COAST AT MID MORNING WILL CONTINUE
ADVANCING SEWD THROUGH THE PERIOD. THIS WILL CONFINE RICH LOW LEVEL
MOISTURE...ALONG WITH APPRECIABLE INSTABILITY AND PRIMARY POTENTIAL
FOR SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS...ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST AND GULF COAST
REGIONS TODAY. ALTHOUGH ABUNDANT LOW LEVEL MOISTURE AND SEASONABLY
WARM SURFACE CONDITIONS WILL BOOST MLCAPE TODAY...INSTABILITY WILL
BE TEMPERED BY RELATIVELY WARM TEMPERATURES ALOFT. IN
ADDITION...LIMITED DEEP LAYER SHEAR WILL PERSIST AS WSWLY FLOW
THROUGH THE MID/UPPER LEVELS REMAINS QUITE WEAK. THUS...A FEW
CLUSTERS OF STORMS WILL LIKELY INTENSIFY OVER PORTIONS OF
SRN/CENTRAL GA INTO SC/ERN-CENTRAL NC LATER TODAY AHEAD OF ADVANCING
FRONT...AND INVOF GULF/SEA BREEZES OVER FL/CENTRAL GULF COAST.
HOWEVER...OUTSIDE OF A FEW STRONG GUSTS...OVERALL RISK OF SEVERE
REMAINS QUITE LOW.

...SOUTHWEST INTO THE SRN ROCKIES...
POCKET OF RELATIVELY COOL MID LEVEL AIR BELOW MID/UPPER LEVEL
ANTICYCLONE OVER THE GREAT BASIN WILL LIKELY SUPPORT WEAK
INSTABILITY OVER PORTIONS OF SERN AZ INTO NRN NM/FAR SRN CO WITH
AFTERNOON HEATING. PW/S REMAIN AROUND .6 INCHES THIS MORNING WHICH
SHOULD BE SUFFICIENT FOR ISOLATED...NON-SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER
HIGHER TERRAIN THIS AFTERNOON.
