AREAS AFFECTED...SOUTHWEST KS...NORTHWEST OK AND NERN TX PANHANDLE

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 142125Z - 142330Z

THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING SEWD IN WRN KS HAVE DEVELOPED A COLD POOL
WHICH WILL INCREASE POTENTIAL FOR STRONG TO DAMAGING WINDS. WITH
DCAPE AOA 1200 J/KG AND MUCAPE AROUND 1000 J/KG...STORMS SHOULD
CONTINUE DEVELOPING S AND E IN POST-FRONTAL AIR MASS. GIVEN THE
RATHER WEAK LOW LEVEL SHEAR AND MARGINAL MOISTURE/INSTABILITY...A
WATCH IS NOT CURRENTLY PLANNED. HOWEVER AREA WILL BE MONITORED FOR
POTENTIAL OF A STRONGER COLD POOL DEVELOPMENT WHICH WOULD LEAD TO A
GREATER WIND DAMAGE THREAT.

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1219
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0336 PM CDT TUE JUN 14 2011

AREAS AFFECTED...NERN-SWRN OK / WRN N-CNTRL TX

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH LIKELY

VALID 142036Z - 142200Z

SCATTERED STORM INITIATION/DEVELOPMENT MOST LIKELY BY 22-00Z.
DOWNDRAFTS CAPABLE OF SEVERE MICROBURSTS WILL BE A THREAT OVER THE
ENTIRE DISCUSSION AREA...WITH AN ADDITIONAL LARGE HAIL THREAT
POSSIBLE IN CNTRL-NERN OK. A WW WILL LIKELY NEED TO BE CONSIDERED
FOR THE AREA OVER THE NEXT 1-2 HRS.

WATER VAPOR IMAGERY INDICATES THAT A MID LEVEL VORT LOBE--
ASSOCIATED WITH A CNTRL HIGH PLAINS S/WV TROUGH--IS OVER THE TX
PANHANDLE AS OF 20Z...WITH IT PROGRESSING EWD INTO CNTRL OK BY EARLY
THIS EVENING. SURFACE ANALYSIS PLACES A LEE TROUGH/DRYLINE
IMMEDIATELY AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT ARCING FROM ERN KS SWWD INTO WRN
OK/NW TX WITH THE DRYLINE EXTENDING SWD INTO THE PERMIAN BASIN.
VISIBLE SATELLITE TRENDS SHOW AN AGITATED FIELD OF ACCAS DEVELOPING
OVER MUCH OF THE DISCUSSION AREA...WITH ANVIL SPROUTS BEING
GENERATED FROM THE MOST VIGOROUS DEVELOPMENT NEAR THE OKC METRO.
SURFACE TEMPS CONTINUE TO RISE THROUGH THE 90S INTO THE LOWER 100S
AS STRONG HEATING CONTINUES TO FURTHER WEAKEN THE CAP AS DEWPOINTS
HOLD IN THE 52-58 RANGE SW TO THE 58-66 RANGE NE E OF THE DRYLINE.
LATEST CONVECTION-ALLOWING MODEL GUIDANCE SUGGESTS A TREND TOWARDS
EARLIER SCTD STORM INITIATION...PERHAPS MOST LIKELY IN THE 22-23Z
TIMEFRAME.

AS VERY STEEP LOWER-MID TROPOSPHERIC LAPSE RATES CONTINUE TO
DEVELOP...PW/S NEAR 1 INCH ARE YIELDING A MODERATELY UNSTABLE
AIRMASS /AOA 1500 J/KG MLCAPE PER OBJECTIVE ANALYSIS/. INCREASING
MID LEVEL FLOW ALOFT WILL SUPPORT SOME STORM ORGANIZATION. THIS
WOULD INCLUDE THE POSSIBILITY OF A HIGH-BASED SUPERCELL OR TWO. THE
MORE INTENSE STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF ISOLD SEVERE
MICROBURSTS...WITH THE GREATEST POTENTIAL FOR ISOLD LARGE HAIL
CNTRL-NERN OK.

ACUS11 KWNS 141957

SPC MCD 141956
ILZ000-MOZ000-IAZ000-KSZ000-142130-

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1218
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0256 PM CDT TUE JUN 14 2011

AREAS AFFECTED...MUCH OF CNTRL...NRN AND ERN MO...FAR SRN IA...WRN
IL

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...TORNADO WATCH LIKELY

VALID 141956Z - 142130Z

STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO INITIATE BY ABOUT 23Z OVER NRN MO/SRN
IA...THEN MOVE SEWD ACROSS NRN AND CNTRL MO AND EVENTUALLY WRN IL BY
LATE EVENING. VERY LARGE HAIL...DAMAGING WINDS...AND A FEW TORNADOES
ARE LIKELY.

SURFACE ANALYSIS SHOWS LOW PRESSURE OVER NERN KS AND SERN NEB...WITH
A COLD FRONT TRAILING SWWD. TO THE E...A MODIFYING OUTFLOW BOUNDARY
EXISTED ACROSS WRN MO...WHERE HEATING AND MIXING CONTINUES.
ALOFT...GRADUAL HEIGHT FALLS AND COOLING WILL CONTINUE AS A WEAK
UPPER SHORTWAVE TROUGH TRAVELS EWD ACROSS NEB/KS.

VISIBLE IMAGERY SHOWS BOUNDARY LAYER CU FROM NERN KS INTO THE MID MO
VALLEY NEAR THE LOW WITH DEWPOINTS RISING INTO THE UPPER 60S F.
HERE...CAPPING IS LESS WITH COOLER 700 MB TEMPS...AND THIS IS ALSO
TRUE EXTENDING SEWD ACROSS CNTRL MO AND TOWARD THE MS RIVER VALLEY.

MODELS ARE FAIRLY CONSISTENT WITH ERUPTING CONVECTION OVER NRN MO
AND SRN IA DURING THE 22-00Z TIME FRAME...WITH RAPID EXPANSION SEWD
DURING THE EVENING. DEEP LAYER SHEAR IS FAVORABLE FOR
SUPERCELLS...AND VERY LARGE DAMAGING HAIL WILL BE POSSIBLE. ALTHOUGH
NOT PARTICULARLY STRONG...LOW LEVEL SHEAR/VEERING WINDS WITH HEIGHT
WILL FAVOR ROTATION AND A FEW TORNADOES. STORMS MAY EVENTUALLY MERGE
AND FORM INTO A LARGER MCS WHICH WOULD TRAVEL SEWD INTO THE MS RIVER
VALLEY WITH A DAMAGING WIND THREAT.

DAY1SVR: Day 1 Convective Outlook

ACUS01 KWNS 141946
SWODY1
SPC AC 141945

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0245 PM CDT TUE JUN 14 2011

VALID 142000Z - 151200Z

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS THROUGH TONIGHT FROM CENTRAL OK
TO THE MID MS AND TN VALLEY REGIONS...

LITTLE CHANGE IN THE SCENARIO FROM THE PREVIOUS OUTLOOK AS THE CAP
IS EXPECTED TO HOLD OVER THE MO AREA UNTIL 22-00Z WHEN LARGE SCALE
ASCENT WITH APPROACHING TROUGH AND HEATING WILL DISSIPATE THE CINH.

HIGH BASED STORMS HAVE DEVELOPED ACROSS ERN CO COINCIDENT WITH UPPER
TROUGH. DOWNSTREAM INTO SWRN KS LAPSE RATES REMAIN VERY STEEP AND
COUPLED WITH MUCAPES UP TO 1000 J/KG AND DCAPE IN EXCESS OF 1200
J/KG...THERE IS A CONCERN THAT STORMS COULD DEVELOP A COLD POOL WITH
ASSOCIATED ENHANCED WIND DAMAGE THREAT. GIVEN THE LIMITED MOISTURE
AND THE LACK OF FAVORABLE SHEAR IN POST-FRONTAL AIR MASS WILL
MAINTAIN A LOW WIND PROB.

..HALES.. 06/14/2011

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 1130 AM CDT TUE JUN 14 2011/

...NRN/CENTRAL MO AREA THROUGH TONIGHT...
OUTFLOW WITH MORNING CONVECTION HAS CONFINED THE EFFECTIVE WARM
FRONT TO AN AXIS FROM SRN MO TO NE KS. THIS BOUNDARY SHOULD RETREAT
NWD/NEWD INTO CENTRAL/NRN MO THIS AFTERNOON AS THE MORNING STORMS
WEAKEN AND MOVE AWAY. MEANWHILE...THE SURFACE COLD FRONT WILL
PROGRESS EWD ACROSS ERN KS IN ADVANCE OF A MIDLEVEL TROUGH EJECTING
EWD FROM THE CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS.

REGIONAL 12Z SOUNDINGS REVEALED A STRONG CAP IN THE WARM
SECTOR...BUT ASCENT ALONG THE SURFACE BOUNDARIES AND IN ASSOCIATION
WITH THE APPROACHING MIDLEVEL TROUGH/HEIGHT FALLS WILL SUPPORT LATE
AFTERNOON/EVENING THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT. THE MORE CONCENTRATED
AREA OF STORMS IS EXPECTED ALONG THE WARM FRONT IN MO...JUST E OF
THE SURFACE LOW. HERE...MLCAPE SHOULD INCREASE TO 2500-3500 J/KG BY
LATE AFTERNOON...COINCIDENT WITH EFFECTIVE BULK SHEAR AOA 40 KT AND
STEEP MIDLEVEL LAPSE RATES. THIS ENVIRONMENT WILL FAVOR SUPERCELL
DEVELOPMENT WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR VERY LARGE HAIL DURING THE
EVENING. THE THREAT FOR TORNADOES WILL BE MOST PRONOUNCED NEAR THE
WARM FRONT WHERE LOW-LEVEL SHEAR WILL BE MAXIMIZED...IN THE FIRST
FEW HOURS AFTER STORM INITIATION WHEN STORMS WILL BE MORE DISCRETE.
BY LATE EVENING AND OVERNIGHT...STORM MERGERS COULD RESULT IN
UPSCALE GROWTH INTO ONE OR MORE MCS/S WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR
DAMAGING WINDS EWD/SEWD ALONG THE WARM FRONT.

...I-44 CORRIDOR IN OK THIS AFTERNOON/EVENING...
STRONG SURFACE HEATING IS EXPECTED TODAY IN ADVANCE OF THE SURFACE
COLD FRONT...WHICH WILL APPROACH THE I-44 CORRIDOR LATE THIS
EVENING. THE SURFACE HEATING WILL WEAKEN THE STRONG CAP IN PLACE
BASED ON 12Z SOUNDINGS...AND THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT IS EXPECTED IN
THE ZONE OF ASCENT ALONG THE FRONT THIS EVENING...AUGMENTED BY
MIDLEVEL ASCENT WITH THE APPROACHING MIDLEVEL TROUGH. A DEEP MIXED
BOUNDARY LAYER AND STEEP LAPSE RATES WILL FAVOR DAMAGING WIND
PRODUCTION WITH THE STRONGER STORMS IN A BROKEN BAND ON THE FRONT
THIS EVENING...ALONG WITH SOME THREAT FOR LARGE HAIL IN THE REGION
OF STRONGER INSTABILITY TOWARD NE OK/SE KS.

...TN VALLEY REGION THIS AFTERNOON/EVENING...
THE ONGOING CONVECTION OVER WRN KY AND APPROACHING MIDDLE TN COULD
INTENSIFY SOME THIS AFTERNOON AS THE BOUNDARY LAYER TO THE S WARMS
AND DESTABILIZES. NWLY FLOW/SHEAR ALOFT AND THE PRESENCE OF THE
NW-SE ORIENTED FRONT COULD PROVIDE A CORRIDOR FOR MAINTENANCE OF THE
STORM CLUSTERS INTO NRN AL THIS AFTERNOON. MLCAPE NEAR 1500 J/KG
AND 20-35 KT NWLY MIDLEVEL FLOW COULD SUPPORT A RISK FOR A FEW
DAMAGING GUSTS THROUGH THE AFTERNOON.

...ERN CO/WRN KS/TX PANHANDLE THIS AFTERNOON...
THOUGH THIS AREA IS POST-FRONTAL...RESIDUAL BOUNDARY LAYER DEWPOINTS
IN THE 50S AND COOLER PROFILES MAY ALLOW ISOLATED THUNDERSTORM
DEVELOPMENT IN ADVANCE OF THE MIDLEVEL TROUGH WHICH WILL CROSS THIS
AREA DURING THE AFTERNOON. PRIOR TO LOW-LEVEL DRYING WITH DOWNSLOPE
FLOW...INSTABILITY AND VERTICAL SHEAR MAY REMAIN SUFFICIENT FOR A
MARGINAL HAIL/WIND RISK.
