MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1153
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0427 PM CDT THU JUN 14 2007

AREAS AFFECTED...WRN AND CENTRAL ND

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE

VALID 142127Z - 150000Z

ISOLATED TSTM OVER FAR NWRN ND MAY BEGIN TO POSE A SVR THREAT IN THE
NEXT HOUR OR SO WHILE IT MOVES ALONG THE CANADIAN BORDER. ADDITIONAL
TSTMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ALONG AN FRONTAL BOUNDARY OVER WRN ND
IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS AND ALONG ANOTHER BOUNDARY OVER CENTRAL ND.
ISOLATED SVR WIND/HAIL THREAT WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THE STRONGEST
TSTMS. A WW MAY BE NEEDED FOR THE AREA BY 00Z.

LATEST RADAR IMAGERY SHOWS AN ISOLATED TSTM OVER BURKE COUNTY. THIS
STORM HAS DEVELOPED ALONG A FRONTAL BOUNDARY EXTENDING SW-NE ACROSS
FAR WRN ND. RECENT VWP DATA FROM MINOT INDICATED 40 KTS AT 500
MB...WHICH WAS SUPPORTING 35-40 KTS OF EFFECTIVE SHEAR OVER WRN ND.
RECENT OBJECTIVE ANALYSIS INDICATED AROUND 1500 J/KG OF MLCAPE...AS
TEMPERATURES HAVE WARMED INTO THE MID/UPPER 70S. A STRONG UPPER
TROUGH OVER CENTRAL MT WILL SUPPORT INCREASING VERTICAL MOTION AND
ADDITIONAL TSTM DEVELOPMENT ALONG THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY IN FAR WRN ND
IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS. DEGREE OF SHEAR/INSTABILITY SUGGEST THAT AT
LEAST ISOLATED SVR WIND/HAIL WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THE STRONGEST
TSTMS. FURTHER EAST...INCREASING VERTICAL MOTION...WEAKENING CINH
AND CONVERGENCE ALONG A DIFFERENTIAL HEATING GENERATED BOUNDARIES
OVER CENTRAL ND /FROM NEAR BIS TO NEAR DVL/ MAY SUPPORT ISOLATED SVR
TSTM DEVELOPMENT IN CENTRAL ND TOWARDS 00Z.

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 397...

VALID 142011Z - 142115Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 397
CONTINUES.

THUS FAR...THE GREATEST COVERAGE OF STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS HAS BEEN
CONFINED TO THE HIGHER TERRAIN ACROSS IN THE SRN HALF OF WW 397.
DESPITE MODERATE INSTABILITY ACROSS THIS PART OF THE WW... GENERALLY
WEAKER DEEP LAYER SHEAR SHOULD TEND TO SUPPORT ADDITIONAL PULSE-TYPE
STORMS WITH ISOLATED HAIL AND STEEP LOW LEVEL LAPSE RATES SUPPORTING
STRONG WIND GUSTS.

FARTHER N...STRONGER NELY MID LEVEL WINDS AT 35-40 KT SPREADING
ACROSS OH INTO THE NRN PART OF THE WW IS ENHANCING EFFECTIVE BULK
SHEAR FOR GREATER POTENTIAL OF STORM ORGANIZATION. GIVEN TSTM
DEVELOPMENT...MLCAPE OF 500-1000 J/KG AND THE GREATER SHEAR WILL
LIKELY RESULT IN A SEVERE TSTM. THUS...SEVERE WEATHER THREAT
CONTINUES ACROSS ALL OF WW 397.

..THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT OVER

..CNTRL/SRN APPALACHIANS TO CNTRL GULF COAST...

AFTERNOON WATER VAPOR IMAGERY INDICATES WELL-DEFINED VORTICITY
MAXIMUM OVER THE UPPER OH VALLEY TRANSLATING SSWWD...WITH A
SECONDARY...WEAKER IMPULSE NOTED OVER NRN AL. IN THE
LOW-LEVELS...RECENT MESOANALYSIS SHOWS THAT WARMEST AND POTENTIALLY
MOST UNSTABLE AIR MASS /MLCAPES OF 1000-1500 J PER KG/ RESIDES ALONG

IN WAKE OF NOCTURNAL CONVECTIVE DEBRIS FROM PORTIONS OF SRN OK SWD

LOWEST 6 KM AGL. STILL...THE DEGREE OF INSTABILITY SUGGESTS THE
POTENTIAL FOR ORGANIZED...SEVERE STORMS CAPABLE OF LARGE HAIL AND
LOCALLY DAMAGING WINDS.

SOME THREAT OF A FEW BRIEF TORNADOES WILL EXIST FROM VICINITY OF
SURFACE LOW OVER NWRN TX NNWWD ALONG INVERTED TROUGH INTO WRN KS
WHERE STRONGER LOW-LEVEL CAPE AND VORTICITY COINCIDE. FOR
ADDITIONAL SHORT TERM GUIDANCE ON THIS AREA...PLEASE SEE MCD 1151.

..ND INTO NWRN MN...

AFTERNOON VISIBLE SATELLITE SHOWS MCV OVER N-CNTRL SD SLOWLY LIFTING
NEWD. AT THE SURFACE...AN AXIS OF HIGHER DEWPOINTS /MID TO UPPER
60S/ RESIDED FROM THE RED RIVER VALLEY SWD INTO ERN SD WHERE AIR
MASS HAS BECOME MARGINALLY UNSTABLE WITH MLCAPES OF AROUND 500 J/KG.
ISOLATED/SCATTERED TSTMS HAVE DEVELOPED SO FAR TODAY FROM PORTIONS
OF ERN ND AND WRN SD INTO ERN SD...DRIVEN BY WEAK LOW-LEVEL WAA AND
DEEPER LAYER FORCING FOR ASCENT ASSOCIATED WITH MCV.

EXPECT TSTMS TO CONTINUE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT ACROSS SAME
GENERAL AREA /I.E. ERN ND INTO NWRN MN/ AS LLJ AND ASSOCIATED WAA
REGIME STRENGTHEN IN RESPONSE TO APPROACH OF SHORT WAVE TROUGH
MOVING THROUGH THE NRN HIGH PLAINS. A FEW OF THE MORE INTENSE
STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF LOCALLY DAMAGING WINDS...SOME SEVERE HAIL
AND PERHAPS A BRIEF TORNADO.

OTHER STORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP LATER THIS AFTERNOON INTO
TONIGHT ALONG PRIMARY SURFACE BOUNDARY NOW MOVING INTO THE WRN
DAKOTAS AS LARGE-SCALE FORCING ASSOCIATED WITH UPSTREAM SHORT WAVE
TROUGH OVERSPREADS FRONTAL ZONE. CONSIDERABLE MID AND HIGH CLOUDS
COUPLED WITH MARGINAL BOUNDARY LAYER MOISTURE HAVE LIMITED AIR MASS
DESTABILIZATION SO FAR TODAY AHEAD OF FRONT. HOWEVER...FURTHER
LOW-LEVEL MOISTENING IS ANTICIPATED WITH MLCAPES GRADUALLY
INCREASING TO AROUND 1000 J/KG. DEEP LAYER VERTICAL SHEAR WILL
CONCURRENTLY INCREASE...BECOMING SUPPORTIVE OF ORGANIZED...ROTATING
UPDRAFTS CAPABLE OF LARGE HAIL AND STRONG WIND GUSTS. SEVERE THREAT
SHOULD SPREAD EWD THROUGH CNTRL ND OVERNIGHT.

MOVE OUT OF NRN GA/ERN TN INTO NRN AL IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS. FURTHER

LATEST SFC ANALYSIS PLACES A SFC TROUGH FROM NWRN AL SEWD INTO

CINH SUGGESTS THAT AT LEAST ISOLATED TSTMS ARE POSSIBLE ALONG THIS

WITH ANY TSTMS THAT DEVELOP ALONG THIS BOUNDARY. ADDITIONALLY...
TSTMS DEVELOPING OVER ERN TN/NRN GA WILL LIKELY MOVE INTO NRN AL IN
THE NEXT FEW HOURS. IF THEY BEGIN TO ORGANIZE AND FORM A COLD

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1146
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1255 PM CDT THU JUN 14 2007

AREAS AFFECTED...PARTS OF SWRN/SRN NC...NRN/NWRN SC...AND NRN GA

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 141755Z - 141900Z

ISOLATED STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE THROUGH THE
AFTERNOON ACROSS SWRN/SRN NC...NRN/NWRN SC AND INTO NRN GA.

WATER VAPOR IMAGERY INDICATED SEVERAL SMALL CIRCULATION CENTERS
LOCATED WITHIN A SHEAR ZONE EXTENDING FROM FAR NRN GA EWD TO ALONG
THE NC/SC BORDER. ASCENT ATTENDANT WITH THESE FEATURES COMBINED
WITH SURFACE HEATING HAS SUPPORTED TSTM DEVELOPMENT IN THE HIGHER
TERRAIN IN THIS REGION AND ALONG A DIFFERENTIAL HEATING BOUNDARY IN
SRN NC. ALTHOUGH MLCAPE VALUES MAY REACH AROUND 1000 J/KG THIS
AFTERNOON...WEAK DEEP LAYER SHEAR WILL LIMIT STORM ORGANIZATION WITH
MUCH OF THE ACTIVITY BEING PULSE. STEEP LOW LEVEL LAPSE RATES
SHOULD PROMOTE THREAT FOR ISOLATED STRONG WIND GUSTS AS ACTIVITY
SPREADS SLOWLY SWD.

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1145
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1235 PM CDT THU JUN 14 2007

AREAS AFFECTED...SCENTRAL NEB

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 141735Z - 141930Z

AN ISOLATED BRIEF TORNADO/MARGINAL HAIL THREAT WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH
CLUSTER OF STG TSTMS AS THEY MOVE NWWD ACROSS SCENTRAL NEB IN THE
NEXT FEW HOURS. LIMITED/MARGINAL THREAT SHOULD PRECLUDE THE NEED FOR
A WW.

LATEST VWP DATA FROM HASTINGS INDICATED MODERATE LOW LEVEL SHEAR /15
KTS FROM 0-1 KM/ AS 30 KT SSELY 1-2 KM WINDS EXIST ABOVE ELY SFC
WINDS. A SMALL CLUSTER OF TSTMS THAT HAS DEVELOPED IN AN AREA
DIFFERENTIAL HEATING /ON THE NERN PERIPHERY OF AN UPPER LOW OVER
SWRN KS/ WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE NWWD AROUND 20 KTS THROUGH SCENTRAL
NEB. THERE EXISTS A SMALL THREAT FOR AN ISOLATED/BRIEF TORNADO WITH
THESE TSTMS OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS AS CONTINUED HEATING WILL
SUPPORT INCREASING 0-3 KM CAPE ENHANCING LOW LEVEL VERTICAL MOTION.
RELATIVELY LIMITED DEEP LAYER VERTICAL SHEAR AND MARGINAL
INSTABILITY SHOULD PRECLUDE AN ORGANIZED SVR THREAT AND NEED FOR A
WW.
