CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 477...

VALID 032250Z - 032345Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 477 CONTINUES.

NUMEROUS INTENSE STORMS AND WIDELY SCATTERED SUPERCELLS HAVE
DEVELOPED IN THE WAKE OF EARLIER MCS AND NOW EXTEND FROM IA/MN
BORDER NWD ACROSS SERN AND CNTRL MN. THESE STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF
PRODUCING LARGE HAIL...IN ADDITION TO TORNADOES.

STRONG INSTABILITY HAS SPREAD NEWD ACROSS ALL OF SERN MN THIS
EVENING AND ROBUST STORMS APPEAR TO BE INCREASING INVOF WAKE
LOW...AND ALONG ASSOCIATED TROUGHS EXTENDING OUT FROM THE LOW.
IN ADDITION...OUTFLOW BOUNDARY FROM EARLIER MCS EXTENDS NWWD ACROSS
EXTREME SERN MN AND APPEARS TO INTERSECT WAKE LOW OVER GOODHUE
COUNTY. THIS IS WHERE A PARTICULARLY INTENSE CELL AND DEVELOPING
MESOCYCLONE ARE CURRENTLY LOCATED. ENHANCED LOW LEVEL SHEAR AND LOW
LFC IN ADVANCE OF THIS CELL...AS WELL AS OTHER DISCRETE CONVECTION

COORDINATION ON A NEW WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF WI IS ONGOING. PARTS OF
ECNTRL AND SERN WI MAY REQUIRE A SEVERE TSTM WATCH AS WEAKLY
ORGANIZED TSTM COMPLEX MOVES EAST THIS EVENING.

MATURE MCS CONTINUES TO MAINTAIN INTENSITY ACROSS WCNTRL WI LATE
THIS AFTERNOON WITH A FEW RECENT HAIL AND WIND REPORTS OCCURRING
WITH THE MORE INTENSE MULTICELLULAR CONVECTION EMBEDDED WITHIN THIS
SYSTEM. WHILE DOWNSTREAM AIR MASS ACROSS CNTRL/ERN WI TO LAKE
MICHIGAN...WAS CURRENTLY LESS UNSTABLE THAN POINTS WEST...GRADUAL
DESTABILIZATION WAS ONGOING ACROSS THE REGION AS TEMPERATURES CLIMB
THROUGH THE MID 70S IN RELATIVELY MOIST AIR MASS. EFFECTIVE SHEAR
ACROSS THE REGION WAS ALSO SOMEWHAT MARGINAL WITH VWP AND RUC DATA
INDICATING VECTOR SHEAR OF ABOUT 20-25KT. HOWEVER...SHEAR IS
EXPECTED TO ALSO INCREASE FURTHER AS STRONGER FLOW COINCIDENT WITH
THE MCS/MCV SPREADS EAST THROUGH THE EVENING. GIVEN LATEST TRENDS IN
RADAR/SATELLITE...AND TIME OF DAY...A WATCH MAY BE REQUIRED ACROSS
PARTS OF THE REGION WITHIN THE NEXT HOUR.

THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT IS EXPECTED IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS
FROM NE NEB INTO SE SD/NW IA/SW MN. THE THREAT FOR LARGE HAIL AND
DAMAGING WINDS WILL LIKELY WARRANT A WW BY ROUGHLY 22-23Z.

VISIBLE IMAGERY SHOWS DEEPENING CUMULUS DEVELOPMENT ALONG A STALLED
OUTFLOW BOUNDARY FROM NE NEB INTO EXTREME SE SD/NW IA. CONTINUED
SURFACE HEATING AND A MOIST BOUNDARY LAYER HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO
MLCAPE VALUES APPROACHING 3000 J/KG...ALONG WITH WEAKENING
CONVECTIVE INHIBITION. ADDITIONALLY...AN MCV NOW LOCATED NEAR HURON
WILL MOVE ESEWD AND BEGIN TO INTERACT WITH THE SURFACE BOUNDARY
WITHIN THE NEXT 2-3 HOURS. THE COMBINATION OF MODEST DEEP LAYER
SHEAR WITH THE MCV AND STRONG INSTABILITY IN THE WARM SECTOR SHOULD
SUPPORT A FEW ORGANIZED THUNDERSTORM CLUSTERS...AND PERHAPS SOME
STORMS WITH SUPERCELL CHARACTERISTICS. LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING
WINDS WILL BE THE PRIMARY SEVERE THREATS...AND A WW WILL LIKELY BE
NEEDED BY 22-23Z.

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0301 PM CDT TUE JUL 03 2007

..THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS THRU TONIGHT FROM THE UPPER
GREAT LAKES INTO PARTS OF THE CENTRAL PLAINS....

..SYNOPSIS...
DOMINANT RIDGE ANCHORED OVER THE SWRN QUARTER OF THE U.S. HAS
RESULTED IN NWLY FLOW REGIME OVER THE UPPER GREAT LAKES REGION.
EMBEDDED WITHIN THE NWLY FLOW IS A SHORTWAVE TROUGH EXTENDING SWWD
FROM CENTRAL ONTARIO THRU N CENTRAL MN INTO WRN SD/E CENTRAL WY.
STRONG/SEVERE CONVECTION IS OCCURRING AHEAD OF THIS FEATURE NOW
CROSSING EWD ACROSS THE CENTRAL BORDER OF MN/WI.

..UPPER GREAT LAKES...

AIR MASS IS VERY UNSTABLE ACROSS MUCH OF WI INTO IA AND ERN NEB AT
THIS TIME WITH MLCAPE VALUES RANGING FROM 1000-1500 J/KG FROM SRN
PARTS OF NRN MN EWD INTO THE NORTHWOODS OF WI...TO 3000 J/KG OVER
NERN IA/SERN SD/NERN NEB. SURFACE ANALYSIS/LATEST COMPOSITE RADAR
ILLUSTRATES BOUNDARY FROM W CENTRAL WI ESEWD TO JUST N OF MKE...AND
SEVERAL CONVECTIVE BOUNDARIES ACROSS CENTRAL MN...FROM SERN SD SWWD
INTO SWRN NEB AND NERN CO. STRONGER DEEP LAYER SHEAR IS POISED JUST
TO THE WEST OF THE MN/WI ACTIVITY WITH VALUES TO 40-50 KT WHICH IS
EXPECTED TO ENHANCE/INTENSIFY AREA OF STORMS THROUGH EARLY TONIGHT.

RUC MODEL TAKES CURRENT ACTIVITY SEWD INTO SRN WI AND NERN IA THRU
04/03Z...AND INTO NRN IL INTO SRN NEB THRU 04/06Z. LATEST RUC
SOUNDINGS SHOW MLCAPE JUST BELOW 3000 J/KG AROUND LSE THIS EVENING
WITH LOW LFC/LCL AND STEEP MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES JUST ABOVE 7C/KM.
THUS...MAIN THREAT WITH THIS ACTIVITY WILL BE HAIL AND DAMAGING
WINDS...BUT GIVEN THAT DEEP LAYER SHEAR WILL BE NEAR 40 KT HINTS AT
ISOLATED TORNADOES AS WELL.

AREAS AFFECTED...ERN CO/SW NEB/WRN KS

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE

VALID 031948Z - 032145Z

..PORTIONS OF ERN CO/WRN NEB/WRN KS BEING MONITORED FOR WEATHER
WATCH...

LATEST SFC ANALYSIS SHOWS OUTFLOW BOUNDARY EXTENDING FROM JUST SOUTH
OF AKO/LXN TO WEST OF OFK. LEE TROUGH IS ALSO NOTED EXTENDING SOUTH
FROM SFC LOW SE OF DENVER. STORMS ARE ALREADY DEVELOPING OVER THE CO
ROCKIES AND NEAR LIMON/COLORADO SPRINGS...AND IT IS LIKELY THAT THIS
IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF ADDITIONAL STORM DEVELOPMENT FOR THE CNTRL
HIGH PLAINS. SHEAR PROFILES ARE A BIT UNUSUAL IN THAT UPPER FLOW IS
N/NWLY...ATOP ELY UPSLOPE FLOW. HOWEVER...STEEP LAPSE RATE
ENVIRONMENT COMBINED WITH FOCUSED SFC CONVERGENCE ASSOCIATED WITH
OUTFLOW/LEE TROUGH INTERSECTION WILL FAVOR STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS
DEVELOPING THIS AFTN...LIKELY EVOLVING INTO A LARGE CLUSTER BY LATE
AFTN/EARLY EVENING. MAIN THREATS APPEAR TO BE STRONG/SEVERE WIND
GUSTS WITH LARGE HAIL. SEVERE WATCH IS BEING CONSIDERED FOR PORTIONS
OF WRN NEB/ERN CO AND WRN KS BY 21Z.
