WATCHES: Severe Thunderstorm Watch Number 753

WWUS20 KWNS 012331
SEL3
SPC WW 012331
ARZ000-LAZ000-TXZ000-020700-

URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 753
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
630 PM CDT THU OCT 1 2009

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST ARKANSAS
NORTHWEST LOUISIANA
NORTHEAST TEXAS

EFFECTIVE THIS THURSDAY NIGHT AND FRIDAY MORNING FROM 630 PM
UNTIL 200 AM CDT.

HAIL TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 60
STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 40 MILES NORTH
NORTHEAST OF HOT SPRINGS ARKANSAS TO 60 MILES SOUTH OF LONGVIEW
TEXAS. FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE ASSOCIATED
WATCH OUTLINE UPDATE (WOUS64 KWNS WOU3).

REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

OTHER WATCH INFORMATION...CONTINUE...WW 751...WW 752...

DISCUSSION...A BROKEN BAND OF STRONG/SEVERE STORMS ALONG THE COLD
FRONT WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE EWD/SEWD THROUGH EARLY TONIGHT ACROSS SW
AR/NE TX/NW LA...WHILE OTHER MORE ISOLATED STORMS FORM IN THE WARM
SECTOR ACROSS SW AR IN A ZONE OF WEAK BACKGROUND ASCENT. THE
COMBINATION OF MODERATE INSTABILITY AND SUFFICIENT DEEP LAYER
VERTICAL SHEAR FOR SUPERCELLS WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT ORGANIZED
SEVERE STORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL.
AN ISOLATED TORNADO CANNOT BE COMPLETELY RULED OUT CLOSER TO THE
WARM FRONT IN AR...THOUGH GRADUAL WEAKENING OF LOW-LEVEL SHEAR AND
INSTABILITY TONIGHT SUGGESTS THAT ANY TORNADO THREAT WILL BE
LIMITED.

AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
TO 1.5 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500. MEAN STORM
MOTION VECTOR 29030.

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 752...

VALID 012302Z - 020000Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 752
CONTINUES.

22Z SUBJECTIVE SURFACE ANALYSIS INDICATES THAT A COLD FRONT EXTENDS
SWWD OUT OF WRN AR/ERN OK INTO NCENTRAL TX...WITH A DRYLINE
INTERSECTION NEAR FTW. LINE SEGMENTS HAVE BEEN OBSERVED ALONG THE
SSEWD SAGGING COLD FRONT OVER NCENTRAL TX...WHERE LOW LEVEL FORCING
IS STRONGEST. MORE DISCRETE ACTIVITY IS OCCURRING ALONG THE DRYLINE
FROM FTW TO JCT...WHERE WEAKER LOW LEVEL CONVERGENCE AND GREATER
CROSSING ANGLE BETWEEN THE LINE OF FORCING AND UPPER FLOW/DEEP SHEAR
VECTORS IS PRESENT. AS THE CENTRAL PLAINS UPPER LEVEL TROUGH
CONTINUES TO EJECT ENE TOWARD THE MID/UPPER MS VALLEY REGION...SHORT
TERM MODEL GUIDANCE INDICATES THAT THE SURFACE COLD FRONT WILL
CONTINUE MOVING S INTO CENTRAL AND ERN TX. THIS WILL RESULT IN
MID-UPPER LEVEL FLOW BECOMING INCREASINGLY PARALLEL TO LOW LEVEL
FORCING...POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A GRADUAL TREND TOWARD QUASI-LINEAR
STORM ORGANIZATION. IN THE MEAN TIME...EFFECTIVE BULK SHEAR VALUES
AROUND 40 KT AND MODERATE MLCAPE VALUES /AROUND 1500 J PER KG
ACCORDING TO SFCOA DATA/ WILL CONTINUE TO FAVOR SHORT LIVED
SUPERCELLS S OF THE COLD FRONT /AS OBSERVED IN RECENT HI-RES RADAR
DATA/ FOR ANOTHER HR OR TWO...POSING A LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WIND
THREAT.

A NNE-SSW ARCING BROKEN LINE OF STORMS WILL CONTINUE TO STEADILY
PROGRESS GENERALLY EAST-SOUTHEASTWARD EARLY THIS EVENING ACROSS
PORTIONS OF SOUTHERN/EASTERN MO AND FAR SOUTHEAST OK/WESTERN AR AND
THE ADJACENT ARKLATEX. A FEW QUASI-DISCRETE/BRIEF SUPERCELLS WILL
REMAIN POSSIBLE...BUT AMPLE FRONTAL FORCING IS SUGGESTIVE OF A
TENDENCY FOR AN INCREASINGLY DENSE AREAL COVERAGE/LINEAR CONVECTIVE
MODE THROUGH THE EARLY EVENING HOURS. GIVEN AMPLE CLOUD
COVER/MARGINAL BUOYANCY TO THE EAST OF WW 751 ACROSS MO...AN
ADDITIONAL WATCH IS NOT ANTICIPATED FOR THE REMAINDER OF
SOUTHERN/EASTERN MO. HOWEVER...PORTIONS OF AR AND THE ADJACENT
ARKLATEX...WITH A WARMER/MORE MOIST AIRMASS IN PLACE IN SPITE OF
CONSIDERABLE CLOUD COVER...WILL CONTINUE TO BE MONITORED FOR THE
POSSIBILITY OF AN ADDITIONAL WATCH ISSUANCE.

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0730 AM CDT THU OCT 01 2009

VALID 011300Z - 021200Z

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS FROM PARTS OF THE MID MS VALLEY
INTO CENTRAL TX...

A LARGE UPPER TROUGH CONTINUES TO TRACK EASTWARD ACROSS THE
PLAINS...WITH A SERIES OF SHORTWAVE TROUGHS AND AN 80+ KT MID LEVEL
JET EXPECTED TO ROTATE ACROSS THE SOUTHERN PLAINS AND INTO THE MID
MS VALLEY TODAY. LATEST SURFACE ANALYSIS SHOWS THE PRIMARY COLD
FRONT SURGING EAST-SOUTHEASTWARD ACROSS KS/OK. STRONG SOUTHWESTERLY
LOW LEVEL WINDS HAVE TRANSPORTED MID 60S DEWPOINTS INTO CENTRAL KS
AHEAD OF THE FRONT...AND SHOULD ALLOW SIGNIFICANT MOISTENING TO
SPREAD INTO PARTS OF MO/AR BY EARLY AFTERNOON. THIS WILL LEAD TO
WIDESPREAD THUNDERSTORMS AND SCATTERED STRONG/SEVERE STORMS FROM
CENTRAL MO INTO EAST TX LATER TODAY.

...MO/AR/OK...
A BAND OF ONGOING CONVECTION CURRENTLY EXTENDS FROM MO INTO EASTERN
OK AND CENTRAL TX. THIS PRE-FRONTAL BAND IS ASSOCIATED WITH WARM
ADVECTION AND LIFT ALONG THE LOW LEVEL JET AXIS...AND WILL PROBABLY
BE MAINTAINED THROUGH MUCH OF THE DAY. BEHIND THIS
ACTIVITY...STRONG HEATING WILL YIELD MODERATE INSTABILITY ALONG THE
FRONT...ALTHOUGH 12Z RAOBS CONFIRM THAT CAP WILL LIKELY RETARD
SURFACE-BASED STORMS UNTIL AT LEAST EARLY AFTERNOON. INITIAL
ACTIVITY OVER WESTERN MO/NORTHWEST AR/EASTERN OK MAY BE
SUPERCELLULAR WITH A RISK OF LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS. STORMS
WILL LIKELY CONGEAL INTO A SQUALL LINE BY EARLY EVENING AND SPREAD
ACROSS MO/AR WITH A CONTINUED RISK OF HAIL AND WIND DAMAGE.

...TX/LA...
CONSIDERABLE UNCERTAINTY REMAINS REGARDING THE SOUTH/WEST EXTENT OF
THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT LATER TODAY. AMPLE MOISTURE AND MODERATE
CAPE VALUES WILL BE IN PLACE...BUT FORECAST SOUNDINGS SHOW
SUBSTANTIAL CAPPING WILL ALSO BE PRESENT. HAVE MAINTAINED SLIGHT
RISK OF SEVERE STORMS INTO CENTRAL TX DUE TO UNCERTAINTY...BUT
THREAT INCREASES TO THE EAST OVER EAST TX AND NORTHERN LA AS COLD
FRONT AND ASSOCIATED SQUALL LINE AFFECTS THIS REGION AFTER DARK.
ANY ISOLATED STORM THAT CAN DEVELOP ALONG THE FRONT OVER CENTRAL TX
WILL POSE A RISK OF LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS.

...IA/NORTHERN MO...
WIDESPREAD PRECIPITATION HAS BEEN AFFECTING MUCH OF IA/NORTHERN MO
OVERNIGHT...BUT BACK EDGE HAS CROSSED THE MO RIVER AND A FEW BREAKS
IN THE CLOUDS ARE LIKELY THIS MORNING AHEAD OF THE FRONT. LOW LEVEL
MOISTURE REMAINS LIMITED IN THIS REGION...BUT MAY INCREASE INTO THE
LOWER 60S PRIOR TO FRONTAL PASSAGE. DESPITE ONLY MARGINAL
INSTABILITY...STRONG LARGE SCALE FORCING FOR ASCENT IN LEFT EXIT
REGION OF MID/UPPER LEVEL JET PROVIDES SOME CONCERN FOR ISOLATED
STRONG STORMS. HAIL WOULD BE THE MAIN THREAT...BUT COVERAGE IS NOT
ANTICIPATED TO MEET CATEGORICAL OUTLOOK CRITERIA.

...DISCUSSION...
SUBSTANTIAL VARIATION IS NOTED IN THE MEDIUM RANGE MODELS THIS
FORECAST...WITH DECENT AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE GFS AND ECMWF ONLY
EVIDENT INTO DAY 5. BOTH MODELS MAINTAIN A NEARLY STATIONARY UPPER
LOW OVER THE GREAT BASIN DAY 4 /SUN. OCT. 4/...WHICH THEN EVOLVES
INTO A LARGE/POSITIVELY TILTED MID-LEVEL TROUGH EXTENDING ACROSS THE
NRN AND WRN CONUS INTO DAY 5.

MODELS THEN BEGIN TO DIFFER IN HANDLING OF THIS TROUGH AND ITS
SMALLER-SCALE COMPONENTS...WHICH HAS SIGNIFICANT INFLUENCE ON THE
DOWNSTREAM CYCLOGENESIS INITIALLY EVOLVING IN LEE OF THE ROCKIES
OVER THE CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS. WHILE SOME SEVERE THREAT APPEARS
POSSIBLE DAYS 4 AND 5 OVER THE CENTRAL CONUS...THREAT DOES NOT
APPEAR SUFFICIENT ATTM TO WARRANT INTRODUCTION OF A THREAT AREA.
FROM LATE DAY 5 ONWARD...MODEL DIFFERENCES BECOME INCREASINGLY
SIGNIFICANT...AND THIS APPARENT LACK OF PREDICTABILITY PRECLUDES THE
INCLUSION OF ANY THREAT AREAS THROUGH THE REST OF THE PERIOD.

0218 AM CDT THU OCT 01 2009

VALID 031200Z - 041200Z

...SYNOPSIS...
RELATIVELY SMALL CHANGES IN THE OVERALL UPPER PATTERN ARE FORECAST
THIS PERIOD...AS THE UPPER LOW OVER THE UPPER GREAT LAKES REGION
DRIFTS SLOWLY NWD AND THE WRN LOW DIGS SWD TOWARD NRN PARTS OF
CA/NV.

A SURFACE COLD FRONT ASSOCIATED WITH THE WRN UPPER LOW IS FORECAST
TO MOVE EWD/SEWD ACROSS CA AND THE GREAT BASIN. MEANWHILE...MODELS
SUGGEST THAT THE ERN U.S. COLD FRONT MAY LINGER INVOF THE ATLANTIC
COAST THROUGH THE FIRST HALF OF THE PERIOD.

PRESUMING THE ERN FRONT REMAINS ONSHORE...SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS
WOULD AGAIN BE POSSIBLE ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE ATLANTIC SEABOARD.
SOME HINTS THAT AT LEAST A LIMITED SEVERE THREAT MAY EVOLVE OVER THE
MID ATLANTIC REGION ARE EVIDENT IN SOME MODEL GUIDANCE...BUT ATTM
CONFIDENCE REMAINS TOO LOW TO INTRODUCE SEVERE PROBABILITIES.
ELSEWHERE...APPRECIABLE SEVERE THREAT IS NOT EXPECTED.

A LARGE UPPER LOW IS PROGGED TO MOVE SLOWLY EWD ACROSS THE UPPER
MIDWEST AND INTO THE UPPER GREAT LAKES REGION THIS PERIOD...WHILE A
SECOND LOW DROPS SWD OUT OF WRN CANADA AND INTO THE PAC NW LATE.

AT THE SURFACE...A SLOWLY FILLING LOW IS FORECAST TO MOVE FROM SRN
MN/IA EWD TO LK MI BY THE END OF THE PERIOD. MEANWHILE...THE
TRAILING COLD FRONT -- FORECAST TO EXTEND FROM A TRIPLE POINT NEAR
SRN LK MI SSWWD ACROSS THE LOWER OH/TN VALLEY REGION INTO LA AND
THEN WSWWD INTO S TX EARLY -- IS FORECAST TO WEAKEN AS IT MOVES EWD.
EXPECT THE FRONT TO BOTH CROSS THE APPALACHIANS AND SHIFT INTO THE
GULF OF MEXICO THROUGH THE PERIOD.

...S TX ENEWD TO THE CENTRAL GULF COAST REGION...
WHILE THE STRONGER LARGE-SCALE ASCENT AND STRONGER FLOW ALOFT
ASSOCIATED WITH THE UPPER SYSTEM ARE FORECAST TO REMAIN N OF THIS
REGION...SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD BECOME RELATIVELY
WIDESPREAD INVOF THE FRONT THROUGH THE AFTERNOON -- PARTICULARLY
ACROSS THE CENTRAL GULF COAST REGION. WHILE MODERATE WLYS AT
MID-LEVELS MAY PROVIDE AMPLE SHEAR FOR A FEW STRONGER
CELLS...RELATIVELY WEAK LOWER LEVEL WINDS AND LIMITED
DESTABILIZATION SHOULD LIMIT THE SEVERE POTENTIAL. HOWEVER...WITH A
LOCAL HAIL/WIND THREAT POSSIBLE WITH A FEW OF THE STRONGER STORMS --
PARTICULARLY DURING THE AFTERNOON...WILL MAINTAIN LOW /5%/ SEVERE
PROBABILITY THIS FORECAST.

...ELSEWHERE...
SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS -- AND A VERY LIMITED SEVERE POTENTIAL --
SHOULD EVOLVE ACROSS PARTS OF THE ATLANTIC COASTAL REGION INCLUDING
COASTAL NC LATE IN THE PERIOD AS THE COLD FRONT APPROACHES FROM THE
W. HOWEVER...WITH VERY LIMITED INSTABILITY ANTICIPATED...WILL NOT
INTRODUCE SEVERE PROBABILITIES ATTM.

SWODY1
SPC AC 010551

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1251 AM CDT THU OCT 01 2009

VALID 011200Z - 021200Z

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS PORTIONS SERN/N-CENTRAL TX AND
SWRN LA TO AR/MO OZARKS...

...SYNOPSIS...
UPPER-AIR PATTERN WILL REMAIN HIGHLY AMPLIFIED ACROSS CONUS THROUGH
PERIOD. CYCLONE INITIALLY CENTERED OVER SRN QUE IS FCST TO MOVE
SLOWLY IN CYCLONICALLY CURVING LOOP -- MAINLY N OF ST LAWRENCE
RIVER. MEANWHILE STG SHORTWAVE TROUGH -- NOW ANALYZED OVER
CENTRAL/NRN ROCKIES STATES -- IS FCST TO EVOLVE INTO CLOSED LOW BY
EARLY THIS PERIOD OVER NEB...MOVING EWD TO IA BY 2/12Z.

ASSOCIATED SFC CYCLONE -- NOW ELONGATED ALONG ARCHING COLD FRONT
OVER NWRN KS AND S-CENTRAL NEB -- IS FCST TO MOVE EWD INVOF KS/NEB
BORDER EARLY IN PERIOD...THEN MOVE/REDEVELOP UNDER CYCLONE
ALOFT...OVER NRN IA/SRN MN. AS THIS OCCURS...COLD FRONT WILL SWEEP
SEWD FROM CENTRAL PLAINS...REACHING ERN MO...N-CENTRAL AR...SERN
OK...AND W-CENTRAL TX BY ABOUT 2/00Z. FRONT THEN SHOULD PROCEED
EWD/SEWD TO S-CENTRAL TX...W-CENTRAL/SWRN LA...CENTRAL MS...AND WRN
KY BY END OF PERIOD...AS PARENT CYCLONE OCCLUDES. OLDER FRONTAL
ZONE -- TRAILING FROM NWRN ATLANTIC AND DEMARCATING NRN EDGE OF
MOIST/RETURN-FLOW AIR -- IS EXPECTED TO LIFT SLOWLY ENEWD ACROSS
ARKLATEX AND WRN GULF COASTAL REGION THROUGH PERIOD...BUT WILL BE
OVERTAKEN BY COLD FRONT FROM N-S ACROSS LOWER MS VALLEY REGION.

...PORTIONS SERN/N-CENTRAL TX AND SWRN LA TO AR/MO OZARKS...
EARLY-PERIOD TSTMS IN CLUSTERS AND BANDS MAY BE ONGOING OVER
PORTIONS MO/IA...ROOTED IN LAYER OF ELEVATED BUOYANCY AND STG
ISENTROPIC ASCENT TO LFC. MAIN CONCERN WITH ANY SUCH ACTIVITY WILL
BE MRGL SVR HAIL...CARRYING OVER THREAT FROM PREVIOUS PERIOD. AS
LLJ WEAKENS THROUGH MID-LATE MORNING...SO SHOULD THIS
CONVECTION...CROSSING MID/UPPER MS VALLEY.

MAIN SVR CONCERN IS WITH DIURNAL CONVECTIVE INITIATION INVOF SFC
COLD FRONT...WHERE ROBUST LINE OF TSTMS PRODUCING DAMAGING GUSTS AND
MOSTLY LOW-END SVR HAIL IS EXPECTED TO FORM BY MID-LATE
AFTERNOON....THEN MOVE EWD ACROSS CATEGORICAL OUTLOOK AREA. SOME
INITIATION-TIMING UNCERTAINTIES STILL EXIST...COMPELLING LOOSER W-E
GRADIENT OF PROBABILITIES THAN ACTUAL SVR POTENTIAL IS LIKELY TO
EVOLVE ACROSS SWRN MO...ERN OK AND N TX. ONCE TSTMS DO
FORM...EXPECT RAPID UPSCALE GROWTH NEWD AND SWWD ALONG/AHEAD OF COLD
FRONT. CONVECTIVE MODE MAY TRANSITION THROUGH BRIEF MIX OF
MULTICELLS AND SUPERCELLS TO LINEAR...RESULTING IN LONG SQUALL LINE
AFTER DARK FROM SERN OZARKS REGION AT LEAST TO UPPER TX COASTAL
PLAIN. THIS LINE SHOULD SHIFT EWD ACROSS PORTIONS LOWER MS VALLEY
THEREAFTER...THREAT DIMINISHING WITH EWD EXTENT AFTER DARK AS
1. FOREGOING BOUNDARY LAYER COOLS DIABATICALLY...REDUCING AVAILABLE
SFC-BASED BUOYANCY...AND
2. CONVECTIVE BAND OUTRUNS HIGHEST THETAE BOUNDARY LAYER AIR MASS
FROM N-S AND INGESTS MORE STABLE AND INCOMPLETELY MODIFIED
CONTINENTAL TRAJECTORIES.

STRONGEST VERTICAL SHEAR PROFILES ARE FCST TO OCCUR ACROSS NRN
PORTION OF OUTLOOK AREA...ESPECIALLY OVER OZARKS IN ZONE WHERE
BUOYANT ZONE WILL BE NARROWING AND DIMINISHING IN MAGNITUDE...AS
COLD FRONT OVERTAKES RETURN-FLOW BOUNDARY. SFC DEW POINTS MID 60S F
OVER SRN MO...AND UPPER 60S/LOWER 70S ACROSS MUCH OF ERN OK...AR AND
NRN/ERN TX -- WILL COMBINE WITH DIABATIC HEATING TO SUPPORT MLCAPES
RANGING FROM LESS THAN 1000 J/KG NEAR MO RIVER TO AROUND 3000 J/KG
OVER PORTIONS N-CENTRAL/NE TX.

SWLY SFC WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO LIMIT SFC CONVERGENCE AND LOW LEVEL
SHEAR OVER MUCH OF AREA...WITH SIGNIFICANT COMPONENT OF MEAN FLOW
VECTOR BEING PARALLEL TO FRONTAL ZONE. FCST HODOGRAPHS ARE ENLARGED
ACROSS OZARKS REGION DUE TO COMBINATION OF CONSIDERABLE BOUNDARY
LAYER SPEED SHEAR AND SLGT VEERING WITH HEIGHT...HOWEVER CONCERNS
OVER CONVECTIVE MODE AND EXTENT OF FAVORABLE INSTABILITY PRECLUDE
MORE THAN MRGL TORNADO PROBABILITIES ATTM.

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 2051
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

AREAS AFFECTED...EASTERN PORTIONS OF NEB/KS TO WESTERN IA/NORTHWEST
MO

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 010444Z - 010615Z

STRONG/SOME SEVERE TSTMS WITH HAIL AS THE PRIMARY RISK SHOULD
CONTINUE TO INCREASE OVERNIGHT ACROSS EASTERN PORTIONS OF KS/NEB
INTO WESTERN IA/NORTHWEST MO. A WATCH IS NOT CURRENTLY
ANTICIPATED...BUT CONVECTIVE TRENDS WILL CONTINUE TO BE MONITORED
INTO THE OVERNIGHT.

SCATTERED ELEVATED TSTMS SHOULD CONTINUE TO INCREASE/SPREAD ENE-WARD
OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS ACROSS THE REGION. ALONG WITH THE INITIAL
BRUNT OF LARGE SCALE HEIGHT FALLS ASSOCIATED WITH A POTENT ROCKIES
UPPER TROUGH...THIS ACTIVITY IS OCCURRING ALONG THE EASTERN EDGE OF
A STRONG PLAINS CAP/ELEVATED MIX LAYER. A SUBSTANTIALLY INCREASING
LOW LEVEL JET /50-60 KT ALREADY NOTED AROUND 1 KM PER DERIVED WIND
DATA ACROSS KS/ AND ASSOCIATED MOISTURE TRANSPORT REGIME...WITH 14C
850MB SOURCE REGION DEWPOINTS PER TOPEKA AND LAMONT OK OBSERVED
RAOBS...WILL CONTRIBUTE TO INCREASING TSTM COVERAGE OVERNIGHT
ROUGHLY ALONG/EAST OF A 850 MB WARM FRONT. GIVEN THIS
SCENARIO...STEEPENING LAPSE RATES/MODEST BUOYANCY WITHIN A
WELL-SHEARED ENVIRONMENT WILL SUPPORT SUSTAINED MULTICELLS/SOME
ELEVATED SUPERCELLS WITH THE RISK FOR HAIL OVERNIGHT. CURRENT
THINKING IS THAT THE RISK WILL REMAIN SUFFICIENTLY MARGINAL/ISOLATED
TO PRELUDE A WATCH ISSUANCE...BUT TRENDS WILL CONTINUE TO BE
MONITORED OVERNIGHT.
