DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1234 AM CDT WED APR 30 2008

VALID 301200Z - 011200Z

...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

...NRN HIGH PLAINS...
AN UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH OVER THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST IS FORECAST TO DIG
SEWD INTO THE INTERMOUNTAIN WEST TODAY AS A LOW-LEVEL JET ORGANIZES
IN THE PLAINS STATES. IN RESPONSE TO THE APPROACHING UPPER-LEVEL
TROUGH...A SFC LOW WILL DEEPEN IN THE HIGH PLAINS AS A COLD FRONT
ADVANCES SEWD ACROSS THE NRN HIGH PLAINS. LARGE-SCALE ASCENT WILL
INCREASE ACROSS THE REGION AND THIS COMBINED WITH LOW-LEVEL
CONVERGENCE ALONG THE BOUNDARY SHOULD RESULT IN SCATTERED
THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT THIS EVENING ACROSS WRN SD AND WRN NEB.

FORECAST SOUNDINGS AT 00Z THURSDAY ACROSS THE NRN HIGH PLAINS SHOW A
STRONG GRADIENT IN SHEAR FROM WEST TO EAST LARGELY ASSOCIATED WITH
THE EXIT REGION OF A MID-LEVEL JET SOUTHEAST OF THE UPPER-LEVEL
TROUGH. THIS ALONG WITH RELATIVELY COLD AIR ALOFT ASSOCIATED WITH
THE APPROACHING TROUGH AND STEEP MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES MAY SUPPORT
AN ISOLATED HAIL THREAT THIS EVENING. SFC DEWPOINTS IN THE MID TO
UPPER 40S F EVIDENT ON FORECAST SOUNDINGS SUGGEST INSTABILITY WILL
NOT BE THAT STRONG. THIS APPEARS LIKELY TO KEEP THE SEVERE THREAT
MARGINAL ACROSS THE REGION.
