THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 490 CONTINUES.
A CLUSTER OF ROTATING STORMS ACROSS THE WRN AND SRN PART OF WW 490
SHOULD CONTINUE TO HAVE A TORNADO THREAT OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS.
THE THREAT SHOULD EXPAND EWD AFFECTING AREAS NEAR THE GEORGIA
STATE-LINE BY EARLY EVENING.
LATEST SFC ANALYSIS SHOWS A SFC LOW EAST OF JACKSON MS WITH A
STATIONARY BOUNDARY EXTENDING EWD ACROSS SCNTRL AL JUST SOUTH OF THE
MONTGOMERY AL VICINITY. A CLUSTER OF STORMS IS ONGOING ALONG THE
BOUNDARY ALONG THE NRN GRADIENT OF A POCKET OF MODERATE INSTABILITY
IN SRN AL WHERE MLCAPE VALUES RANGE FROM 1000 TO 1500 J/KG. THE
BIRMINGHAM WSR-88D VWP CURRENTLY SHOWS A LARGE CIRCULAR HODOGRAPH
WITH STRONG DIRECTIONAL SHEAR BELOW 1 KM AND ABOUT 35 KT OF VERTICAL
SHEAR. THIS SHOULD BE SUFFICIENT FOR A FEW SUPERCELLS AND/OR BOW
ECHOES WITH TORNADO POTENTIAL OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS. THE THREAT
SHOULD GRADUALLY SHIFT DOWNSTREAM TO AREAS EAST OF HIGHWAY 231 IN
THE 23Z TO 01Z TIMEFRAME.
