..NO TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

..INTERMOUNTAIN W...

AMPLIFYING SHORT WAVE TROUGH CURRENTLY FROM THE NRN HIGH PLAINS INTO
THE GREAT BASIN WILL CONTINUE SEWD TONIGHT IN CONJUNCTION WITH
SURFACE COLD FRONTAL SYSTEM. 00Z BOI OBSERVED SOUNDING INDICATED
THAT QUITE COLD MIDLEVEL TEMPERATURES /-37 C AT 500 MB/ ARE
ASSOCIATED WITH THIS SYSTEM...WHICH HAVE EFFECTIVELY CONTRIBUTED TO
RATHER STEEP LAPSE RATES THROUGH THE LOWEST 3-4 KM AGL. ISOLATED
LIGHTNING STRIKES HAVE BEEN OBSERVED WITHIN THE PAST COUPLE OF HOURS
SE OF THE GREAT SALT LAKE WHERE THE LEADING EDGE OF THE STEEPER
LAPSE RATES IS COLOCATED WITH DEEPER LAYER ASCENT ALONG SURFACE
FRONT AND IN ADVANCE OF UPPER SYSTEM. A FEW LIGHTNING STRIKES WILL
CONTINUE TO BE POSSIBLE OVERNIGHT INTO THE CNTRL ROCKIES...HOWEVER
ANTICIPATED COVERAGE AND FREQUENCY APPEAR TOO MARGINAL FOR INCLUSION
OF A THUNDER AREA.
