DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0746 PM CDT THU MAR 20 2008

VALID 210100Z - 211200Z

..NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

..NRN HIGH PLAINS TO THE CORN BELT...
WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SHOWS A PAIR OF VORTICITY MAXIMA ROTATING EWD
FROM THE NRN ROCKIES INTO THE NRN HIGH PLAINS THIS EVE. NRN-MOST
WAVE WAS SKIRTING THE MT/MANITOBA BORDER...WHILE THE STRONGER
IMPULSE WAS TRANSLATING THROUGH ERN WY TOWARD THE NEB PNHDL. THESE
TWO FEATURES WILL MIGRATE EWD OVERNIGHT WITH THE SRN DISTURBANCE
REMAINING THE STRONGEST AS IT APPROACHES THE CORN BELT BY 12Z.

TFX/GGW/RIW SOUNDINGS ALL EXHIBITED VERY STEEP LOW/MID-TROPOSPHERIC
LAPSE RATES THIS EVENING...BUT REMAINED QUITE DRY.
NONETHELESS...VIGOROUS ASCENT ASSOCD WITH THE TWO AFOREMENTIONED
SHORTWAVE TROUGHS HAS CONTRIBUTED TO MOISTENING THE COLUMN JUST
ABOVE H7...YIELDING JUST ENOUGH THERMAL BUOYANCY TO SUPPORT
HIGH-BASED TSTMS ACROSS THE NRN HIGH PLAINS. MOST OF THIS ACTIVITY
WILL DIMINISH AS THE BOUNDARY LAYER COOLS THIS EVENING WITH PERHAPS
LONGER-LIVED STORMS ASSOCD WITH THE STRONGER WAVE MOVING INTO WRN
NEB.

LATER TONIGHT...WARM ADVECTION WILL INCREASE ALONG THE NOSE OF A 50
KT LLJ ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE CORN BELT AHEAD OF THE ERN WY IMPULSE.
SUFFICIENT MOISTURE TRANSPORT AND STEEP LAPSE RATE PLUME SPREADING
EWD FROM WRN NEB WILL YIELD THERMODYNAMIC PROFILES CONDUCIVE FOR
SPORADIC ELEVATED TSTMS...PARTICULARLY ACROSS CNTRL/NRN IA.
