MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0609
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0813 PM CDT WED APR 09 2008

AREAS AFFECTED...CNTRL TX INTO S-CNTRL OK

CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 179...

VALID 100113Z - 100215Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 179 CONTINUES.

THROUGH 0230Z...THE GREATEST THREAT OF LARGE HAIL AND ISOLATED
TORNADOES WILL EXIST ACROSS PORTIONS OF WISE...DENTON...COOKE AND
GRAYSON COUNTIES IN N-CNTRL TX.

AS OF 0110Z...A LONG-LIVED SUPERCELL WITH A HISTORY OF TORNADOES WAS
PRESENT OVER ERN WISE AND NWRN DENTON COUNTIES IN N-CNTRL TX MOVING
235/30 KT. THIS STORM /NOW MUCH MORE HP IN CHARACTER/ APPEARS TO BE
MOVING OFF A MORE NNW-SSW ORIENTED WARM OR QUASI-STATIONARY BOUNDARY
INTO A VERY MOIST BOUNDARY LAYER WITH DEWPOINTS IN THE MID/UPPER
60S. INDEED...00Z FWD SOUNDING INDICATED A DEEP...MOIST PROFILE
THROUGH 750 MB...BENEATH MODESTLY STEEP LAPSE RATES WITH MLCAPES OF
AROUND 2000 J/KG.

WHILE THIS STORM IS MOVING OFF THE BOUNDARY...CURRENT FTW VWP
INDICATES THAT LOW-LEVEL SHEAR REMAINS RELATIVELY STRONG ACROSS WARM
SECTOR WITH 0-1 KM SRH OF 200-250 M2/S2. THIS IN CONJUNCTION WITH
THE HUMID BOUNDARY LAYER AND 60-70 KT OF EFFECTIVE BULK SHEAR
SUGGESTS A CONTINUED THREAT OF TORNADOES AND LARGE HAIL AS SUPERCELL
CONTINUES ACROSS PORTIONS OF WISE...DENTON...COOKE AND GRAYSON
COUNTIES.
