THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

WEST TEXAS

EFFECTIVE THIS TUESDAY NIGHT AND WEDNESDAY MORNING FROM 615 PM
UNTIL 100 AM CDT.

HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 80
MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 60
STATUTE MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 70 MILES WEST OF
LUBBOCK TEXAS TO 45 MILES SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF CHILDRESS TEXAS.

REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

DISCUSSION...SEVERAL INTENSE/SEVERE STORMS WILL DEVELOP SSEWD ACROSS
TX SOUTH PLAINS AREA THROUGH LATE THIS EVENING. ACTIVITY WAS
DEVELOPING WITHIN CORRIDOR OF STRONG INSTABILITY FOCUSED ON OUTFLOW
REINFORCED FRONTAL ZONE SITUATED GENERALLY NNW-SSE ACROSS THE
REGION. MOIST LOW LEVEL SELY/UPSLOPE FLOW TOPPED BY NWLY FLOW ALOFT
WILL LEAD TO SUFFICIENT SHEAR TO MAINTAIN TSTM ORGANIZATION. IN
ADDITION TO LARGE/DAMAGING HAIL...INITIALLY DISCRETE CONVECTION
COULD PRODUCE A BRIEF TORNADO OR TWO GIVEN LOCALLY LOWER LFC AND
HIGHER SHEAR NEAR THE FRONT. HOWEVER...WITH TIME...GREATER THREAT
SHOULD BECOME INTENSE WINDS AS THE STORMS MERGE INTO A SEVERE MCS
AND SYSTEM TRACKS SEWD ACROSS THE AREA.

AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 70
KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 550. MEAN STORM
MOTION VECTOR 33035.
