DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0642 PM CST MON DEC 29 2008

VALID 300100Z - 301200Z

...NO TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

...NRN ROCKIES INTO NRN HIGH PLAINS...

EVENING WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SHOWS A POTENT SHORT WAVE TRANSLATING
EWD THROUGH THE PACIFIC NW INTO NRN ROCKIES. LATEST MODEL GUIDANCE
TAKES THIS FEATURE ESEWD THROUGH THE NRN HIGH PLAINS TONIGHT...
COINCIDENT WITH ATTENDANT SURFACE LOW AND PACIFIC COLD FRONT. A
COUPLE OF LIGHTNING BURSTS WERE OBSERVED EARLIER TODAY JUST E OF
PUGET SOUND AND THE OTHER OVER THE ID PNHDL. THE LATTER APPEARED TO
OCCUR WITH SOME MORE ROBUST CONVECTIVE ELEMENTS INVOF PACIFIC FRONT
WHERE STRONG LARGE-SCALE FORCING FOR UVV COINCIDED WITH THE LEADING
EDGE OF STEEPER MIDLEVEL LAPSE RATES.

WHILE AN ISOLATED LIGHTNING STRIKE OR TWO REMAINS POSSIBLE TONIGHT
OVER PARTS OF MT...MODEL GUIDANCE SUGGESTS THAT ANY CONVECTIVE
INSTABILITY WHICH DEVELOPED THROUGH THE DIURNAL HEATING CYCLE TODAY
WILL TEND TO DIMINISH. THEREFORE...NO GENERAL THUNDER AREA WILL BE
INCLUDED IN THIS FORECAST.
