AREAS AFFECTED...PARTS OF THE CATSKILL MTNS NEWD INTO ERN MAINE

CONCERNING...FREEZING RAIN

A SIGNIFICANT FREEZING RAIN EPISODE WILL CONTINUE ACROSS PARTS OF
THE CATSKILL MTNS EXTENDING NEWD TO ERN MAINE FROM 00-06Z.
PRECIPITATION RATES WILL GENERALLY BE IN THE 0.02-0.05 INCH/HR OVER
PARTS OF MAINE WITH MORE INTENSE RATES OF 0.10-0.20 INCH/HR PROBABLE
OVER PARTS OF NY EXTENDING INTO SRN PARTS OF NEW ENGLAND.

SURFACE OBSERVATIONS THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS PARTS OF NERN PA
EXTENDING INTO SRN COASTAL MAINE HAVE INDICATED LIQUID EQUIVALENT
PRECIPITATION RATES FROM 0.02-0.10 INCH/HR. THIS WILL LIKELY
CONTINUE AS RECENT RADAR MOSAIC SHOWS AN EXPANSIVE PRECIPITATION
SHIELD MOVING NWD FROM PARTS OF THE MID-ATLANTIC INTO SRN NEW
ENGLAND. STRONG WARM AIR ADVECTION IN THE 925-700MB LAYER WILL
SUPPORT STRONG MOISTURE FLUX AND ISENTROPIC LIFT IN THE REGION THIS
EVENING. MODEL FORECAST SOUNDINGS RETAIN A NEAR-SURFACE LAYER AOB
32 F DEG ACROSS MOST OF THE HIGHLIGHTED AREA THROUGH 06Z WHICH WILL
LEAD TO SIGNIFICANT ICING. AREAS INITIALLY RECEIVING SNOW ACROSS
PARTS OF NRN VT/NH WILL EVENTUALLY TRANSITION TO SLEET/FREEZING
RAIN.
