...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED OVER PARTS OF THE NORTHEAST US
LATER TODAY AND TONIGHT...

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF TORNADOES...LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS OVER PARTS
OF THE NORTHEAST US LATER TODAY AND TONIGHT.

THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE

CONNECTICUT
MASSACHUSETTS
FAR SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE
NEW JERSEY
SOUTHEASTERN NEW YORK
EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA
RHODE ISLAND
FAR SOUTHERN VERMONT

ELSEWHERE...SEVERE STORMS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE FROM...THE TENNESSEE
VALLEY NORTHEASTWARD INTO THE NORTH AND MIDDLE ATLANTIC STATES.

A DEEP LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM...CURRENTLY LOCATED IN EASTERN NEW
YORK...WILL SHIFT NORTHEASTWARD INTO MAINE THIS BY LATE AFTERNOON. A
TRAILING COLD FRONT WILL SWEEP EASTWARD TO NEAR THE ATLANTIC COAST
BY EARLY EVENING. NUMEROUS STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS HAVE DEVELOPED
ALONG AND AHEAD OF THE SURFACE LOW AND FRONT AND SHOULD INTENSIFY
THROUGH THE AFTERNOON AS THEY SWEEP EASTWARD INTO A VERY WARM AND
UNSTABLE AIR MASS. ATMOSPHERIC WINDS ARE ALSO QUITE STRONG AND
SUPPORTIVE OF SUPERCELLS...WITH A POTENTIAL FOR A FEW TORNADOES.
HOWEVER...THE GREATER THREAT LIKELY WILL BE WIND DAMAGE AS ONE OR
TWO THUNDERSTORM LINES SPREAD EASTWARD ACROSS THE REGION. THE SEVERE
THREAT IS EXPECTED TO DECREASE BY 800 PM EST THIS EVENING AS THE
STORMS MOVE MOSTLY OFFSHORE.

STATE AND LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGERS ARE MONITORING THIS POTENTIALLY
VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO
REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO
RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR POSSIBLE
WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS LATER TODAY.
