SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 279
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1045 AM CDT MON JUN 7 2010

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

SOUTH CENTRAL KANSAS
NORTHWEST OKLAHOMA

EFFECTIVE THIS MONDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON FROM 1045 AM UNTIL
200 PM CDT.

HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 45
STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 80 MILES NORTH
NORTHWEST OF MEDICINE LODGE KANSAS TO 20 MILES SOUTHWEST OF ENID
OKLAHOMA. FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE

REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

DISCUSSION...A SMALL CLUSTER OF STORMS...NORTHEAST OF DDC...HAS
DEVELOPED A COLD POOL. DESPITE A RELATIVELY COOL BOUNDARY
LAYER...THE STRONG INSTABILITY FEEDING IN FROM THE WEST COMBINED
WITH STRONGLY VEERING WIND PROFILES...SHOULD SUPPORT SEVERE STORMS
MOVING SWD THROUGH SRN KS AND POSSIBLY INTO NWRN OK DURING THE NEXT
2-3 HOURS. HAIL AND WIND DAMAGE ARE BOTH LIKELY WITH THIS SOUTHWARD
MOVING THUNDERSTORM CLUSTER.

AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 550. MEAN STORM
MOTION VECTOR 33025.
