THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

SOUTHWEST CONNECTICUT
NORTHERN NEW JERSEY
SOUTHEAST NEW YORK
FAR NORTHEAST PENNSYLVANIA
COASTAL WATERS

EFFECTIVE THIS FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND SATURDAY MORNING FROM 555 PM
UNTIL 100 AM EDT.

TORNADOES...HAIL TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND
GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE
AREAS.

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 45 STATUTE
MILES EITHER SIDE OF A LINE FROM 30 MILES NORTH NORTHWEST OF
WILKESBARRE PENNSYLVANIA TO 25 MILES EAST OF NEW YORK CITY NEW

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

AND QUITE MOIST WITH MLCAPE OF 1000-2000 J/KG. AREA VWPS INDICATE
MODERATELY STRONG LOW AND DEEP-LAYER SHEAR PRESENT INVOF OF THE WARM
FRONT...SUGGESTING THAT ENVIRONMENT WILL REMAIN SUPPORTIVE OF
ROTATING UPDRAFTS THROUGH THE REMAINDER OF THE EVENING. WHILE
LOCALLY DAMAGING WIND GUSTS WILL BE THE PRIMARY HAZARD...THE
POTENTIAL FOR A FEW TORNADOES WILL EXIST WITH ANY STORMS THAT CAN
FAVORABLY INTERACT WITH THE LOW-LEVEL BAROCLINIC ZONE.
