MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 1936
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0658 PM CDT WED OCT 06 2010

AREAS AFFECTED...WESTERN CO

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 695...

VALID 062358Z - 070100Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 695
CONTINUES.

SEVERE TSTM WATCH 695 CONTINUES UNTIL 03Z...WITH DAMAGING WINDS AND
SOME HAIL REMAINING POSSIBLE ACROSS WESTERN CO MAINLY OVER THE 1-2
HOURS.

A RELATIVELY WELL-ORGANIZED LINE OF TSTMS CONTINUES TO STEADILY
PROGRESS EAST-NORTHEASTWARD ACROSS FAR WESTERN CO EARLY THIS
EVENING. IN THE PRESENCE OF STEEP LAPSE RATES ALOFT AND STRONG/DEEP
SOUTHERLY FLOW...THIS ACTIVITY IS BEING AIDED ON THE LARGE SCALE BY
A NORTH-NORTHEASTWARD PIVOTING SHORTWAVE TROUGH/SPEED MAX PER WATER
VAPOR IMAGERY. PRIOR TO THE BOUNDARY LAYER COOLING/BECOMING
CONVECTIVELY OVERTURNED...STRONG/SEVERE WINDS AND/OR SOME HAIL WILL
REMAIN POSSIBLE MAINLY OVER THE NEXT HOUR OR TWO. ALONG THESE
LINES...A RECENTLY MEASURED 50 KT GUST WAS NOTED AT GRAND
JUNCTION...WITH A 46 KT MEASURED GUST AT TELLURIDE. CURRENT THINKING
IS THAT WW 695 WILL BE ALLOWED TO EXPIRE PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED 03Z
EXPIRATION.
