THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

MUCH OF LOUISIANA
SOUTHWEST AND WEST CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI
EXTREME SOUTHEAST TEXAS
COASTAL WATERS

EFFECTIVE THIS THURSDAY MORNING AND EVENING FROM 1040 AM UNTIL
600 PM CDT.

HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 85
STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 45 MILES EAST
NORTHEAST OF MONROE LOUISIANA TO 45 MILES SOUTH SOUTHEAST OF LAKE
CHARLES LOUISIANA. FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE

REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

DISCUSSION...THUNDERSTORMS ARE ORGANIZING INTO A NEW LINE OVER SERN
TX AS ADDITIONAL STORMS HAVE DEVELOPED AHEAD OF AN INITIAL LEADING
LINE...IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE SRN END OF A SHORT WAVE TROUGH MOVING
TOWARD THE LOWER MS VALLEY. THE AIR MASS AHEAD OF THE CONVECTION IS
VERY UNSTABLE WITH MLCAPE OF 2000-2500 J/KG...AND FURTHER
DESTABILIZATION IS LIKELY AS DIURNAL HEATING CONTINUES. MODEST DEEP
LAYER SHEAR WILL SUPPORT ORGANIZED MULTICELL STORMS...WITH STRONGEST
CELLS CAPABLE OF LARGE HAIL GIVEN STEEP MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES ALONG
WITH DAMAGING WIND GUSTS /DCAPE AOA 1000 PER KG/. STORMS SHOULD
SPREAD/DEVELOP EWD THROUGH THE AFTERNOON WITHIN THE EXPANDING CU
FIELD OVER LA AND SWRN MS.

AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 550. MEAN STORM
