DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1245 AM CDT THU AUG 26 2010
VALID 261200Z - 271200Z
...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...
...SYNOPSIS...
SYNOPTIC PATTERN WILL REMAIN PROGRESSIVE TODAY. UPPER TROUGH NOW
EXTENDING FROM THE GREAT LAKES INTO THE OH VALLEY WILL ADVANCE TO
THE ATLANTIC SEABOARD BY THE END OF THE PERIOD. FARTHER WEST A
SHORTWAVE TROUGH ACCOMPANIED BY A COLD FRONT WILL MOVE THROUGH THE
PACIFIC NW AND INTO THE NRN ROCKIES. FRONTAL BOUNDARY EXTENDING
ALONG THE GULF COASTAL AREA NEWD INTO THE CAROLINAS WILL CONTINUE
SLOWLY SEWD.
...SWRN STATES...
WEAK UPPER CIRCULATION OFF SRN CA COAST WILL MOVE SLOWLY NEWD INTO
THE SWRN U.S. ALONG WRN PERIPHERY OF UPPER RIDGE. RIDGE AXIS WILL
SHIFT EWD AS SRN EXTENSION OF UPPER TROUGH MOVES ONTO THE WRN U.S.
COAST. PLUME OF SUBTROPICAL MOISTURE WILL ADVECT NEWD THROUGH THE
SWRN U.S. AND GREAT BASIN IN ASSOCIATION WITH UPPER LOW CIRCULATION.
DIABATIC WARMING WITHIN AN ENVIRONMENT CHARACTERIZED BY STEEP LAPSE
RATES AND MODEST INSTABILITY WILL ONCE AGAIN RESULT IN THE
DEVELOPMENT OF AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN. DEEP
INVERTED-V BOUNDARY LAYERS WILL PROMOTE A THREAT OF ISOLATED
DAMAGING WIND DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING.
...NRN ROCKIES...
DEEP ASCENT WITHIN THE PROGRESSIVE FRONTAL ZONE MAY CONTRIBUTE TO
HIGH BASED...SHALLOW CONVECTION OVER PORTIONS OF THE NRN ROCKIES
DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING. INVERTED-V BOUNDARY LAYERS
AND POTENTIAL FOR MIXING OF STRONG WINDS ABOVE 700 MB DOWN TO THE
SURFACE WILL CONTRIBUTE TO SOME THREAT FOR ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND.
HOWEVER...MEAGER MOISTURE AND INSTABILITY WILL REMAIN A LIMITING
FACTOR FOR MORE ROBUST THUNDERSTORMS IN THIS REGION.
