DAY 2 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK RESENT 1
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1242 PM CDT TUE JUN 05 2007

VALID 061200Z - 071200Z

..THERE IS A MDT RISK OF SVR TSTMS ACROSS PARTS OF ND...SD...NEB
AND MN...

..THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS ACROSS PARTS OF THE PLAINS AND
UPPER MIDWEST...

..SIGNIFICANT SEVERE THUNDERSTORM EPISODE POSSIBLE ACROSS PARTS OF
THE NRN PLAINS INTO PARTS OF THE CNTRL PLAINS LATE WEDNESDAY
AFTERNOON THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT...

..GREAT PLAINS AND UPPER MIDWEST...
A POWERFUL UPPER-LEVEL LOW IS FORECAST TO MOVE EWD ACROSS THE
PACIFIC NORTHWEST TONIGHT AND INTO THE ROCKIES WEDNESDAY. AN 80 TO
90 KT MID-LEVEL JET ASSOCIATED WITH THIS FEATURE IS FORECAST TO
ROUND THE BASE OF THE TROUGH AND THE EXIT REGION OF THIS FEATURE
WILL EJECT INTO THE PLAINS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE WILL RETURN QUICKLY NWD ACROSS THE CNTRL PLAINS
INTO THE NRN PLAINS ASSOCIATED WITH A STRONG LOW-LEVEL JET. AS A
RESULT...LARGE-SCALE ASCENT...INSTABILITY AND VERTICAL SHEAR SHOULD
BECOME INCREASINGLY FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE STORMS ACROSS THE PLAINS
REGION WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT.

ALTHOUGH AN OUTBREAK OF SEVERE STORMS IS POSSIBLE ACROSS PARTS OF
THE MODERATE RISK AREA FROM LATE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH
WEDNESDAY NIGHT...MANY UNCERTAINTIES REMAIN CONCERNING MOISTURE
RETURN AND THE TIMING OF THE UPPER-LEVEL LOW. THE SHORT-TERM MODELS
APPEAR TO BE TOO QUICK WITH RETURNING LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE NWD INTO
THE PLAINS. ALSO...THE MODELS FROM RUN TO RUN HAVE BEEN CONSISTENTLY
TOO FAST AND TOO FAR NORTH WITH THE UPPER-LOW. FOR THESE
REASONS...THUNDERSTORMS THAT DEVELOP ACROSS THE REGION MAY NOT HAVE
ACCESS TO THE GREATEST MOISTURE UNTIL LATER WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THIS
COULD LIMIT THE OUTBREAK POTENTIAL.

CONCERNING THE SYNOPTIC SETUP...A SFC LOW SHOULD DEVELOP IN THE HIGH
PLAINS WEDNESDAY WITH THE LOW DEEPENING AND MOVING EWD INTO THE NRN
PLAINS BY WEDNESDAY EVENING. WARM MID-LEVEL TEMPS ASSOCIATED WITH AN
ELEVATED MIXED LAYER WILL LIKELY CAP AREAS SOUTH OF THE SFC LOW
ACROSS WCNTRL NEB AND WCNTRL KS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. THUNDERSTORMS
SHOULD DEVELOP WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON FROM THE SFC LOW IN WRN SD NWD
ACROSS ERN MT AND WRN ND. INSTABILITY AND VERTICAL SHEAR ON FORECAST
SOUNDINGS IN THIS AREA SUGGEST CONDITIONS WILL BE FAVORABLE FOR
SUPERCELLS. SUPERCELLS SHOULD HAVE ENOUGH INSTABILITY AND VERTICAL
SHEAR TO PRODUCE TORNADOES...LARGE HAIL AND WIND DAMAGE WEDNESDAY
AFTERNOON WITH THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT SPREADING EWD ACROSS THE
NRN PART OF THE MODERATE RISK AREA LATE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON INTO THE
EARLY EVENING. CONSIDERING THE STRONG UNIDIRECTIONAL FLOW AND
RELATIVELY DRY BOUNDARY LAYER IN THE WRN DAKOTAS COUPLED WITH THE
VERY STRONG LARGE-SCALE ASCENT COMING OUT WITH THE TROUGH...AN
ENHANCED POTENTIAL FOR WIND DAMAGE MAY ALSO DEVELOP IF A LINEAR MCS
TRACKS EWD ACROSS SRN ND AND NRN SD FROM LATE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON
INTO THE EVENING. A SIGNIFICANT TORNADO THREAT MAY ALSO DEVELOP
DURING THE LATE EVENING AND OVERNIGHT PERIOD IN ERN ND...ERN SD AND
WRN MN AS THE MCS TRACKS EWD INTO INCREASING LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE AND
NEW SUPERCELLS INITIATE ON THE SOUTH END OF THE MCS.

THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT ACROSS THE SRN PART OF THE MODERATE RISK
APPEARS MORE CONDITIONAL DUE TO A STRONG CAPPING INVERSION THAT WILL
BE IN PLACE. AS THE LARGE-SCALE ASCENT COMES OUT WITH THE
UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING...THUNDERSTORMS MAY FINALLY
INITIATE ACROSS PARTS OF SERN SD...CNTRL NEB SSWWD ACROSS WCNTRL KS
INTO WEST TX. THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD BE MORE ISOLATED SSWWD ALONG THE
DRYLINE. FORECAST SOUNDINGS ALONG AND JUST EAST OF THE DRYLINE
WEDNESDAY EVENING SHOW VERY STEEP LAPSE RATES...HIGH INSTABILITY AND
STRONG LOW-LEVEL FLOW SUGGESTING LARGE HAIL AND A FEW TORNADOES WILL
BE LIKELY. VERY LARGE HAIL WILL ALSO BE POSSIBLE WITH THE MORE
PERSISTENT SUPERCELLS DURING THE LATE EVENING.

..ERN SC/SE GA AND NERN FL...
THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT APPEARS LIKELY ON SEA BREEZE BOUNDARIES
ALONG THE SRN ATLANTIC SEABOARD WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
FORECAST SOUNDINGS ACROSS THIS REGION SHOW NWLY FLOW ALOFT WITH
0-6KM SHEAR VALUES IN THE 30 TO 40 KT RANGE. THIS COMBINED WITH THE
INSTABILITY MAY BE ENOUGH FOR A MARGINAL WIND DAMAGE THREAT MAINLY
LATE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EARLY WEDNESDAY EVENING.

1152 AM CDT TUE JUN 05 2007

AREAS AFFECTED...SRN GA AND NRN FL

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE

VALID 051652Z - 051845Z

STORMS DEVELOPING FROM NRN FL THROUGH SRN GA MAY BECOME CAPABLE OF
PRODUCING LARGE HAIL AND ISOLATED DAMAGING WIND. TRENDS ARE BEING
MONITORED FOR A POSSIBLE WW.

STORMS CONTINUE DEVELOPING ACROSS SRN GA THROUGH NRN FL ALONG AND N
OF A CONVECTIVE OUTFLOW BOUNDARY. MORNING RAOB DATA IN THIS REGION
SHOWED MODEST MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES FROM 6-6.5 C/KM AND A WEAK CAP.
HOWEVER...RICH LOW LEVEL MOISTURE WITH DEWPOINTS IN THE UPPER 60S
AND STRONG SURFACE HEATING WILL CONTRIBUTE TO MODERATE INSTABILITY
WITH MLCAPE FROM 1500 TO 2000 J/KG THIS AFTERNOON. WV IMAGERY SHOWS
VORT MAX SHEARING EWD THROUGH SRN AL...AND BELT OF 40 TO 50 KT MID
LEVEL FLOW S OF THIS FEATURE IS RESULTING IN DEEP SHEAR SUFFICIENT
FOR SUPERCELL STRUCTURES. SHEAR PROFILES ARE UNIDIRECTIONAL AND
SUGGESTS LIKELIHOOD OF SOME LEFT SPLITS. DESPITE MODEST MID LEVEL
LAPSE RATES...MODERATE INSTABILITY AND MID LEVEL ROTATION MAY
ENHANCE UPDRAFTS ENOUGH TO SUPPORT A THREAT FOR LARGE HAIL.

DAY1SVR: Day 1 Convective Outlook

ACUS01 KWNS 051645
SWODY1
SPC AC 051643

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1143 AM CDT TUE JUN 05 2007

VALID 051630Z - 061200Z

..THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS THIS AFTERNOON INTO TONIGHT
ACROSS THE CENTRAL/NRN HIGH PLAINS...

..THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS NEW
ENGLAND...

..THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS THE LOWER
RIO GRANDE VALLEY...

..THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS THIS AFTERNOON ACROSS THE LOWER
OH VALLEY...

..THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS THIS AFTERNOON FROM THE NE GULF
COAST INTO THE ERN CAROLINAS...

..NEW ENGLAND THIS AFTERNOON...
A WEAK COLD FRONT/PRE-FRONTAL TROUGH IS MOVING EWD ACROSS NJ/ERN NY
TOWARD NEW ENGLAND...IN CONJUNCTION WITH A MID LEVEL SHORTWAVE
TROUGH EJECTING NEWD OVER ERN PA. THE BOUNDARY LAYER IS
DESTABILIZING GRADUALLY IN ADVANCE OF THIS BOUNDARY...AND AFTERNOON
MLCAPE VALUES OF 1000-1500 J/KG APPEAR LIKELY IN THE WARM SECTOR.
MODEST UNIDIRECTIONAL SHEAR WITH THE EJECTING MID LEVEL WAVE SHOULD
SUPPORT A FEW ORGANIZED MULTICELL CLUSTERS...AND PERHAPS A FEW
STORMS WITH SOME SUPERCELL STRUCTURES. THE STRONGEST STORMS MAY
PRODUCE AT LEAST ISOLATED LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS THROUGH THE
AFTERNOON...BEFORE THE SEVERE THREAT DIMINISHES THIS EVENING.

..LOWER RIO GRANDE VALLEY TODAY...
THE S TX MCS IS NOW MOVING OFFSHORE...WITH THE MORE INTENSE NEW
DEVELOPMENT EXPECTED TO REMAIN OVER THE NW GULF WHERE THE MCS
OUTFLOW INTERSECTS THE PRE-EXISTING BOUNDARY FROM S OF PSX INTO SRN
LA. MEANWHILE THE OUTFLOW SHOULD SPREAD SWD ACROSS DEEP S TX THIS
AFTERNOON. LIFT ALONG THE MODIFYING OUTFLOW BOUNDARY MAY BE
SUFFICIENT TO GENERATE NEW STORMS AS SURFACE HEATING WEAKENS
CONVECTIVE INHIBITION OVER DEEP S TX THIS AFTERNOON...THOUGH THE
OUTFLOW COULD SURGE SWD FAR ENOUGH TO KEEP NEW TSTM DEVELOPMENT IN
MEXICO. THUS...WILL MAINTAIN A CONDITIONAL THREAT FOR LARGE
HAIL/DAMAGING WINDS TO ACCOUNT FOR THE POSSIBILITY OF NEW TSTM
DEVELOPMENT NEAR THE RIO GRANDE...GIVEN THE MODERATE INSTABILITY AND
DEEP LAYER VERTICAL SHEAR STILL PRESENT S OF THE OUTFLOW.

..LOWER OH VALLEY THIS AFTERNOON...
WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SHOWS A MID LEVEL SHORTWAVE TROUGH MOVING FROM
IA TOWARD THE LOWER OH VALLEY THIS AFTERNOON...AND THIS WILL HELP
MAINTAIN A WEAK WAVE ON THE FRONTAL SEGMENT ACROSS IL THIS
AFTERNOON. MEANWHILE...RESIDUAL LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE /BOUNDARY LAYER
DEWPOINTS OF 58-62 F/ AND DAYTIME HEATING WILL RESULT IN THE
DEVELOPMENT OF MLCAPE VALUES OF 500-1000 J/KG ALONG/S OF THE SURFACE
BOUNDARY FROM NRN KY/SRN INDIANA INTO CENTRAL/SRN IL. WIDELY
SCATTERED-SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD DEVELOP DURING THE
AFTERNOON FROM IL INTO KY...AND SOME CONVECTION COULD ALSO PERSIST
OVER NRN KY IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE TAIL END OF A LEAD TROUGH MOVING
OVER INDIANA/OH. UNIDIRECTIONAL WIND PROFILES WITH MODERATE SPEED
SPEED...IN COMBINATION WITH THE MODEST INSTABILITY...COULD SUPPORT A
FEW STORMS WITH SUPERCELL STRUCTURES. ISOLATED LARGE HAIL AND
DAMAGING GUSTS WILL BE THE MAIN THREATS THIS AFTERNOON.

..N FL/S GA INTO THE CAROLINAS THIS AFTERNOON/EVENING...
CONVECTION HAS ALREADY DEVELOPED OVER N FL/S GA INVOF A DIFFUSE
SURFACE TROUGH...AND ADDITIONAL DEVELOPMENT IS LIKELY DURING THE
AFTERNOON ALONG THIS BOUNDARY AND OTHER STORM SCALE OUTFLOW
BOUNDARIES. THE RICHER MOISTURE/STRONGER INSTABILITY /MLCAPE VALUES
OF 1500-2000 J/KG/ SHOULD BE CONFINED TO GA DURING THE
AFTERNOON...AND VERTICAL SHEAR APPEARS SUFFICIENT FOR A FEW
SUPERCELLS WHICH WILL LOCALLY ENHANCE THE THREAT FOR LARGE HAIL AND
DAMAGING WINDS. WEAKER INSTABILITY EXTENDS TO THE NE ALONG THE
SURFACE TROUGH INTO THE CENTRAL/ERN CAROLINAS. WIDELY SCATTERED
STORMS COULD FORM ALONG THE SURFACE TROUGH IN CONJUCTION WITH STRONG
SURFACE HEATING/MIXING...AND THE STRONGER STORMS MAY PRODUCE
ISOLATED DAMAGING WINDS AND SOME HAIL.

..CENTRAL/NRN HIGH PLAINS THIS AFTERNOON INTO EARLY TONIGHT...
AN INTENSE MID LEVEL TROUGH IS MOVING EWD FROM THE PAC COAST TOWARD
THE GREAT BASIN BY TONIGHT. SHORTWAVE RIDGING WILL BE MAINTAINED IN
THE MID LEVEL OVER THE HIGH PLAINS TODAY...WITH THE PRIMARY IMPACT
OF THE LARGER SCALE HEIGHT FALLS NOT ANTICIPATED UNTIL LATE TONIGHT
AND TOMORROW MORNING. STILL...CYCLOGENESIS ACROSS MT/WY WILL INDUCE
STRENGTHENING LOW-LEVEL SLY FLOW ACROSS THE PLAINS...WHICH WILL
RESULT IN NWD TRANSPORT OF THE RESIDUAL 55-60 F DEWPOINTS ACROSS THE
SRN PLAINS AND HIGH PLAINS.

THIS MOISTURE...ALONG WITH DAYTIME HEATING...WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE
DEVELOPMENT OF WEAK-MODERATE INSTABILITY ACROSS THE CENTRAL AND NRN
HIGH PLAINS BY LATE AFTERNOON. WIDELY SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS
SHOULD DEVELOP OVER THE HIGH PLAINS THIS AFTERNOON...AND THESE
STORMS COULD BECOME SUPERCELLS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING LARGE HAIL AND
DAMAGING GUSTS GIVEN THE MODEST INSTABILITY AND RELATIVELY STRONG
DEEP LAYER SHEAR WITH MID LEVEL WNWLY FLOW ABOVE LOW-LEVEL SELY
FLOW. IT APPEARS THAT THE STRONGEST INSTABILITY AND VERTICAL SHEAR
WILL COINCIDE THIS EVENING OVER THE CENTRAL HIGH PLAINS IN PROXIMITY
OF THE BAROCLINIC ZONE RETREATING NWD ACROSS KS/CO/NEB.
