MESO: Mesoscale Discussion 2164

ACUS11 KWNS 261818
SWOMCD
SPC MCD 261817
NCZ000-SCZ000-GAZ000-FLZ000-ALZ000-261915-

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 2164
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0117 PM CDT TUE AUG 26 2008

AREAS AFFECTED...ERN FL PANHANDLE/GA/WRN AND CENTRAL SC/SOUTH
CENTRAL NC

CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 866...

VALID 261817Z - 261915Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 866 CONTINUES.

LOW LEVEL SHEAR VALUES REMAIN FAVORABLE FOR SUSTAINED STORM ROTATION
WITH AN ATTENDANT THREAT FOR TORNADOES ACROSS MUCH OF WW 866 THIS
AFTERNOON.

17Z SURFACE ANALYSIS INDICATED THE CENTER OF CIRCULATION ATTENDANT
TO THE REMNANTS OF FAY WAS LOCATED ALONG THE AL/TN BORDER...WHILE
THE AXIS OF STRONGEST SLY LOW LEVEL WINDS /30-35 KT/ REMAINED ACROSS
GA INTO THE SRN APPALACHIANS. A SURFACE BOUNDARY EXTENDED GENERALLY
EWD FROM THIS AREA OF LOW PRESSURE THROUGH NRN GA AND NWRN SC TO
SERN NC. STRONG SURFACE HEATING WITHIN THE WARM SECTOR TO THE EAST
OF THE LEADING BAND OF TSTMS WHICH EXTENDED FROM NERN TO SWRN GA IS
SUPPORTING A MODERATELY UNSTABLE AIR MASS. THIS INSTABILITY
COMBINED WITH EFFECTIVE BULK SHEAR UP TO 35 KT WILL RESULT IN
ADDITIONAL ORGANIZED STORMS FROM WRN SC/NERN GA SSWWD ACROSS THE
TORNADO WATCH WHERE LOW LEVEL CONVERGENCE REMAINS MAXIMIZED. VWP
DATA OVER CENTRAL GA INDICATED LOW LEVEL SHEAR /0-1 KM SHEAR 20+ KT
AND 0-3 KM SRH 250 M2/S2/ SUPPORTIVE FOR STORM ROTATION/ATTENDANT
TORNADO THREAT.

BACKED ELY SURFACE WINDS ALONG THE E-W BOUNDARY OVER NRN SC/SERN NC
WILL ALSO MAINTAIN AN ENHANCED TORNADO THREAT WITH ANY STORMS THAT
MOVE ACROSS OR TRACK EWD IN THE VICINITY OF THIS FRONT.

FARTHER W...AREA VWP DATA SHOWED LOW LEVEL WINDS VEERING TO SWLY
FROM NWRN GA TO ALONG THE AL/GA BORDER...RESULTING IN SMALLER
HODOGRAPH CURVATURE. THIS TREND SUGGESTS THAT COUNTIES CAN BE
CANCELLED FROM WW 866 ONCE LOW LEVEL WINDS VEER.

RAPIDLY EJECT NEWD IN RESPONSE TO THE INTENSIFICATION OF AN UPSTREAM
TROUGH OVER THE N-CNTRL STATES. FARTHER E...THE REMNANTS OF
TROPICAL DEPRESSION FAY WILL LIFT NNEWD THROUGH THE CUMBERLAND
PLATEAU INTO THE UPPER OH VALLEY.

...UPPER MS VALLEY SWWD INTO KS...

SURFACE COLD FRONT ATTENDANT TO LEAD SHORT WAVE MAY TEND TO WEAKEN
WEDNESDAY WHILE PROGRESSING EWD THROUGH THE UPPER MS VALLEY. THIS
FRONTAL BOUNDARY WILL EVENTUALLY BE OVERTAKEN WEDNESDAY NIGHT BY
SECONDARY COLD FRONT ASSOCIATED WITH AMPLIFYING SHORT WAVE TROUGH
OVER THE NRN PLAINS. TSTMS ONGOING AT THE ONSET OF THE FORECAST
PERIOD OVER THE MID MO VALLEY WILL WEAKEN THROUGH THE DAY AS UPPER
SYSTEM LIFTS NEWD AWAY FROM THE REGION. THEREAFTER...BOUNDARY LAYER
DEWPOINTS IN THE 60S COINCIDENT WITH ERN EXTENSION OF STEEP LAPSE
RATE PLUME WILL CONTRIBUTE TO A MODERATELY UNSTABLE AIR MASS BY
AFTERNOON WITH MLCAPES APPROACHING 500-1000 J/KG OVER SRN MN...TO AS
HIGH AS 2000-2500 J/KG OVER KS.

WHILE THE STRONGER LARGE-SCALE HEIGHT FALLS ASSOCIATED WITH
AMPLIFYING UPSTREAM SYSTEM WILL LIKELY REMAIN W OF WARM SECTOR AIR
MASS THROUGH THE DIURNAL HEATING CYCLE...SUSTAINED CONVERGENCE ALONG
FRONTAL ZONE SHOULD SUPPORT SCATTERED TSTM DEVELOPMENT BY MID/LATE
AFTERNOON. THE STRONGER DEEP-LAYER VERTICAL SHEAR /EFFECTIVE BULK
SHEAR OF AROUND 40 KT/ WILL RESIDE ACROSS NRN EXTENSION OF
INSTABILITY AXIS WITH SHEAR GENERALLY DECREASING WITH SWD EXTENT
ALONG FRONTAL ZONE WHERE CONVECTIVE INSTABILITY WILL INCREASE.
GIVEN THIS DISPLACEMENT OF STRONGER SHEAR FROM THE STRONGER
INSTABILITY...ONLY LOW SEVERE PROBABILITIES WILL BE MAINTAINED ATTM.
NONETHELESS...THE MORE INTENSE STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF LARGE HAIL
AND DAMAGING WINDS THROUGH WEDNESDAY EVENING.

...AZ...

A MOIST LOW-LEVEL AIR MASS WILL PERSIST ACROSS CNTRL/SRN AZ WITH
DEWPOINTS IN THE 60S AND PW VALUES OF 1.5-2.0 INCHES. THIS MOISTURE
COMBINED WITH RELATIVELY STEEP LAPSE RATES ARE EXPECTED TO
CONTRIBUTE TO A MODERATELY UNSTABLE AIR MASS WITH MLCAPES OF
1000-1500 J/KG. DIURNAL TSTMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ALONG FAVORED
TERRAIN WITH AN ENHANCED BELT OF 20-25 KT NELY MIDLEVEL FLOW LIKELY
SUPPORTING THE SWWD MOVEMENT/PROPAGATION OF TSTMS INTO THE LOWER
DESERTS. LOCALLY DAMAGING WIND GUSTS AND/OR SOME HAIL MAY ACCOMPANY
THE MORE INTENSE STORMS.

...LOWER OH VALLEY/CUMBERLAND PLATEAU INTO NC...

LATEST MODEL GUIDANCE SUGGESTS THAT LOW-LEVEL WIND FIELDS WILL
GRADUALLY WEAKEN THROUGH THE PERIOD AS THE REMNANTS OF TROPICAL
DEPRESSION FAY LIFT NNEWD. HOWEVER...AIR MASS WILL REMAIN QUITE
MOIST FROM VICINITY OF SYSTEM CENTER ESEWD ALONG AND S OF ATTENDANT
FRONTAL BOUNDARY WHICH WILL BE SLOWLY LIFTING NWD ACROSS NC/VA.
VERTICAL SHEAR WILL NOT BE PARTICULARLY STRONG...BUT FORECAST
HODOGRAPHS DO INDICATE CONSIDERABLE VEERING THROUGH THE LOWEST 2-3
KM AGL. THIS COMBINED WITH THE MOIST BOUNDARY LAYER AND POCKETS OF
MODERATE INSTABILITY MAY BE SUPPORTIVE OF MARGINAL SUPERCELL
STRUCTURES CAPABLE OF A BRIEF TORNADO OR TWO IN ADDITION TO LOCALLY
GUSTY WINDS.

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS OVER PARTS OF THE SERN US...

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS OVER PARTS OF THE CENTRAL AND
NRN PLAINS...

...SERN STATES...
REMNANT CIRCULATION OF FAY OVER NRN AL DRIFTING NEWD AND BY 12Z WED
SHOULD BE INTO KY. LOW/MID LEVEL FLOW REMAINS SURPRISINGLY
STRONG/30-40KT/ E OF THE CENTER ACROSS GA CONSIDERING THE SYSTEM IS
MOVING FURTHER AWAY FROM THE GULF. AS A RESULT SHEAR IS SUPPORTIVE
OF LOW LEVEL ROTATION WITHIN ANY CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT AND IS
EXPECTED TO CONTINUE THRU MUCH OF THIS PERIOD.

ADDITIONALLY TODAY...THE AIR MASS AHEAD OF MAIN BAND OF
STRONG/SEVERE CONVECTION FROM GA TO SC WILL HEAT UP AND DESTABILIZE
THIS AFTERNOON GIVEN THE OBSERVED LIMITED CLOUD COVER. MLCAPES
EXPECTED TO RISE TO AOA 1500 J/G BY MID AFTERNOON WHICH ALONG WITH
THE FAVORABLE VEERING SHEAR PROFILES WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT
TORNADIC SUPERCELL POTENTIAL. AS LOW LEVEL FLOW GRADUALLY VEERS TO
MORE SWLY THE ROTATION/TORNADO THREAT SHOULD GRADUALLY DIMINISH FROM
W TO E ACROSS GA BY THIS EVENING. HOWEVER FURTHER N AND E INTO
SC/SRN NC BACKED LOW LEVEL FLOW VICINITY E/W BOUNDARY COULD MAINTAIN
SOME TORNADO CONCERN WELL INTO THE EVENING.

...NRN PLAINS...
STRONG COLD FRONT NOW ENTERING WRN DAKOTAS IS BEING SUPPORTED BY
VIGOROUS UPPER TROUGH CROSSING MT. THE WARM SECTOR AIR MASS AHEAD OF
THE FRONT IS CHARACTERIZED BY A MOIST LOW LEVEL SLY FLOW OF 30-40KT
...THAT IS CAPPED BY A PRONOUNCED EML IN THE MID/UPPER LEVELS WITH
LAPSE RATES NEAR 9C/KM. SINCE THE STRONG ASCENT AND MID LEVEL
COOLING WITH THE MT S/WV TROUGH SIGNIFICANTLY LAGS THE COLD
FRONT...IT WILL REQUIRE STRONG HEATING TO DISSIPATE THE CINH FOR
CONVECTIVE INITIATION. THIS SHOULD HAPPEN LATE THIS AFTERNOON AT
WHICH TIME MLCAPES TO 2000 J/KG WILL BE IN PLACE ACROSS THE DAKOTAS.

STRONG/SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL FORM VICINITY THE COLD FRONT BY
MID/LATE AFTERNOON. SHEAR AND INSTABILITY WILL BE SUFFICIENT FOR
ISOLATED SUPERCELL POTENTIAL...HOWEVER GIVEN THE LAG TO THE UPPER
TROUGH THE SHEAR OF 30-40KT VICINITY FRONTAL ZONE WILL SUPPORT
MAINLY CLUSTERS AND SHORT LINE SEGMENTS. PRIMARY SEVERE THREAT WILL
BE LARGE HAIL AND LOCALIZED DAMAGING WINDS.

...SWRN DESERTS...
MONDAYS ACTIVE CONVECTION HAS SIGNIFICANTLY OVERTURNED THE AIRMASS
MUCH OF THE DESERT VALLEYS. HOWEVER IT APPEARS THAT THINNING CLOUD
COVER VICINITY LOWER CO RIVER VALLEY WILL ALLOW SUFFICIENT HEATING
OF THE NOW VERY MOIST AIR MASS FOR RENEWED THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT
VICINITY HIGHER TERRAIN THIS AFTERNOON. STEERING FLOW IS
WEAK...HOWEVER WITH MLCAPES POTENTIALLY AS HIGH AS 2000
J/KG...LOCALIZED DOWNBURSTS WILL AGAIN BE A THREAT.

THE MEDIUM RANGE MODELS ARE INITIALLY IN GOOD AGREEMENT MOVING A
BROAD UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH EWD ACROSS SERN CANADA EARLY IN THE DAY 4

WITH THE GFS MOVING A SUBTLE UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH ACROSS THE NRN
STATES AND THE ECMWF DEVELOPING A HIGHLY-AMPLIFIED UPPER-LEVEL
TROUGH IN THE ROCKIES. THIS INTRODUCES GREAT UNCERTAINTY AND NEITHER
SOLUTION APPEARS TO BE FAVORABLE FOR ANY SUBSTANTIAL SEVERE WEATHER
THREAT. THE MODELS ARE IN BETTER AGREEMENT ACROSS THE CNTRL AND ERN
STATES MOVING AN UPPER-LEVEL RIDGE EWD FROM THE MS VALLEY THIS

CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 866...

VALID 261518Z - 261615Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 866 CONTINUES.

THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING OVER NRN SC/SRN NC...INCLUDING NERN PART OF
WW 866...AND INTERACTING WITH A SURFACE BOUNDARY EXTENDING FROM NWRN
SC EWD TO SERN NC /VICINITY OF ILM/ WILL POSE A THREAT FOR AN
ISOLATED TORNADO. THIS THREAT APPEARS LIMITED...GIVEN NUMBER OF
STORMS ALREADY DEVELOPING IN THIS REGION...WITH A NEW WW NOT
WARRANTED AT THIS TIME TO THE ENE OF WW 866.

SURFACE HEATING ALONG AND S OF THE ABOVEMENTIONED BOUNDARY WITH
TEMPERATURES RISING THROUGH THE UPPER 70S HAS ELIMINATED MUCH OF
INHIBITION FOR THE FAIRLY RAPID DEVELOPMENT OF CONVECTION IN THE
VICINITY OF THE BOUNDARY FROM NRN SC INTO SRN NC. STORM MOVEMENT
THUS FAR HAS BEEN NWD WITH STRONGER ACTIVITY TENDING TO WEAKEN AS IT
MOVES N OF THE SURFACE BOUNDARY. AREA VWPS INDICATED A MODEST
INCREASE IN SLY LOW LEVEL WINDS ATOP ELY SURFACE WINDS. ALTHOUGH
DEEP LAYER SHEAR IS WEAK TO MAINTAIN STORM ORGANIZATION...LOW LEVEL
SHEAR IN THE VICINITY OF THE BOUNDARY SHOULD PROVE SUFFICIENT FOR
LOW LEVEL STORM ROTATION...ESPECIALLY WITH ANY STORM THAT SHOWS
DEVIANT MOTION /I.E. EWD/ ALONG THE BOUNDARY.

DAY1SVR: Day 1 Convective Outlook

ACUS01 KWNS 261257
SWODY1
SPC AC 261254

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0754 AM CDT TUE AUG 26 2008

VALID 261300Z - 271200Z

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS OVER PARTS OF THE SERN U.S....

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS OVER PARTS OF THE CNTRL AND NRN
PLNS...

...SYNOPSIS...
AMPLIFIED/PROGRESSIVE PATTERN WILL CONTINUE ACROSS SRN CANADA AND
THE NRN U.S. THROUGH WEDNESDAY...WHILE WEAK FLOW PERSISTS FROM CA TO
THE SRN PLNS. UPPER RIDGE WILL MOVE E OVER THE GRT LKS AS STRONG
SHORTWAVE TROUGH MOVES FROM THE NRN RCKYS ENE INTO MB/WRN ONTARIO.
IN THE SOUTHEAST...HYBRID REMNANT OF T.D. FAY EXPECTED TO FINALLY
ACCELERATE NEWD FROM NRN AL THIS MORNING TO ERN KY BY 12Z WEDNESDAY.

...SERN U.S./SRN APLCNS...
SATELLITE AND PRESSURE CHANGE DATA SUGGEST THAT REMNANT CIRCULATION
OF T.D. FAY IS FINALLY MOVING NEWD. ASSOCIATED WIND FIELD HAS BEEN
SLOW TO WEAKEN AND LIKELY WILL REMAIN SUFFICIENTLY STRONG TO POSE A
CONTINUED RISK FOR ISOLD TORNADOES AND LOCALLY DMGG WIND GUSTS AS
CONVECTION IN ITS VICINITY DIURNALLY STRENGTHENS THROUGH THE DAY.
THE GREATEST SVR RISK SHOULD EXIST FROM SW GA NEWD INTO N CNTRL AND
NERN GA...WHERE 30-35 KT SSWLY 850 MB JET WILL PERSIST ATOP WEAK BUT
VERY MOIST NEAR-SFC SSE FLOW. THE POTENTIAL FOR LOW LVL
SHOWER/STORM ROTATION MAY BE FURTHER ENHANCED WHERE NE-MOVING CELLS
ENCOUNTER WEAK STNRY FRONT/ TERRAIN-INDUCED BOUNDARY EXTENDING FROM
NRN GA E THROUGH THE SC PIEDMONT INTO SRN NC. WHILE AN ISOLD SVR
THREAT MAY PERSIST INTO TONIGHT IN THE CAROLINAS...THE THREAT SHOULD
BE MAINLY DIURNAL GIVEN CONTINUING PRESENCE OF WARM MID LVL
TEMPERATURES.

...NRN/CNTRL PLNS...
COLD FRONT ASSOCIATED WITH STRONG/PROGRESSIVE NRN STREAM TROUGH WILL
MOVE STEADILY E ACROSS MT TODAY...REACHING THE WRN DAKS BY AFTN.
THE FRONT WILL OVERTAKE MORE SLOWLY-MOVING LEE TROUGH AND CONTINUE
SE INTO THE MID MO VLY EARLY WEDNESDAY. STRONG EML
OVERSPREADING THE NRN/CNTRL PLNS SHOULD CAP THE REGION TO DEEP
CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT FOR MUCH OF THE DAY. BUT BY LATE AFTN...
EXPECT SCTD TSTMS TO FORM ALONG LEE TROUGH AS COLD FRONT OVERTAKES
THAT FEATURE IN THE PRESENCE OF STRONG SFC HEATING AND INCREASING
HI-LVL DIFFLUENCE.

HEATING OF NARROW CORRIDOR OF UPR 50S/LWR 60S F DEWPOINTS ALONG LEE
TROUGH WILL YIELD 1000-2000 J/KG SBCAPE...MAXIMIZED OVER WRN AND
CNTRL PARTS OF NEB/SD. THE STRONGEST MID/UPR LVL FLOW WILL LAG THE
COLD FRONT GIVEN CONFIGURATION OF UPR SYSTEM AND ITS ENE MOTION INTO
SRN CANADA. NEVERTHELESS...AMPLE /30-40 KT/ SW TO NWLY DEEP SHEAR
WILL EXIST FOR SUPERCELLS...ESPECIALLY DURING THE INITIAL PERIOD OF
STORM DEVELOPMENT. ULTIMATELY...HOWEVER... PROGRESSIVE NATURE OF
STRONG/DEEP FORCING FOR ASCENT SHOULD FAVOR EVOLUTION INTO BROKEN
LINEAR SEGMENTS THIS EVE. THE STORMS WILL HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO
PRODUCE BOTH SVR HAIL AND WIND. SEASONABLY STRONG UVV MAY ALLOW
CONVECTION IN ND TO PERSIST INTO LATE EVE BEFORE WEAKENING AS
ASSOCIATED FORCING/DPVA MOVES BEYOND LOW LVL MOISTURE AXIS INTO NW
MN. FARTHER S...A SEPARATE AREA OF STORMS/POSSIBLE MCS MAY MOVE SE
ALONG BROADER INSTABILITY GRADIENT INTO ERN PARTS OF
SD/NEB...SUPPORTED BY 30 KT SSWLY LLJ AND DIFFLUENT WNW FLOW ALOFT.

...AZ/FAR SRN NV/INTERIOR SRN CA...
DEEPLY MOIST ENVIRONMENT HAS BECOME ESTABLISHED OVER MUCH OF AZ AND
ADJACENT PARTS OF SRN NV/CA...IN PART DUE TO NEARBY PRESENCE OF
WEAKENING T.D. JULIO TO THE SOUTH. SCTD TO NUMEROUS STORMS SHOULD
FORM WITH AFTN HEATING ACROSS THE REGION TODAY. EFFECTS OF
YESTERDAY/S STORMS AND LINGERING CLOUDS SHOULD LIMIT ANY ASSOCIATED
THREAT FOR LOCALLY DMGG WIND IN ERN AND MUCH OF CNTRL AZ.
HOWEVER...A THREAT FOR STRONG OUTFLOW WINDS MAY DEVELOP OVER THE LWR
CO VLY IN WRN AZ...AND OVER SE CA/FAR SRN NV...WHERE MORE
SUBSTANTIAL HEATING WILL OCCUR AND WEAK NELY MID LVL FLOW WILL BE
PRESENT TO SUPPORT SW-PROPAGATING STORMS.

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 2161
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0716 AM CDT TUE AUG 26 2008

AREAS AFFECTED...PARTS OF ERN AL...WRN/NRN GA...FL PANHANDLE...THE
WRN CAROLINAS

CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 865...

VALID 261216Z - 261345Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 865 CONTINUES.

WHILE IT APPEARS THAT A NEW WW MAY NOT BE NEEDED AT THE SCHEDULED
14Z EXPIRATION OF WW 865...TRENDS WILL BE MONITORED FOR THE
POSSIBILITY OF AN INCREASING SEVERE THREAT ACROSS PARTS OF NORTHERN
GEORGIA AND THE WESTERN CAROLINAS LATER THIS MORNING INTO THE
AFTERNOON HOURS.

THE SURFACE LOW CENTER ASSOCIATED WITH THE REMNANTS OF FAY IS IN THE
PROCESS OF SHIFTING NORTH/NORTHEAST OF BIRMINGHAM. THIS IS
OCCURRING IN RESPONSE TO THE PROGRESSION OF AN INITIAL IMPULSE
THROUGH THE NORTHEASTERN PERIPHERY OF THE ASSOCIATED MID-LEVEL
CIRCULATION CENTER...AND ANOTHER IMPULSE THROUGH THE
SOUTHERN/EASTERN PERIPHERY. ASSOCIATED WITH THE LATTER FEATURE...A
ZONE OF STRONGER MID-LEVEL FORCING IS NOW LIFTING THROUGH
SOUTHWESTERN AND WEST CENTRAL GEORGIA. AND...AS THIS CONTINUES
NORTH NORTHEASTWARD THIS MORNING...SOUTHWESTERLY LOW-LEVEL FLOW
FIELDS ARE PROGGED TO WEAKEN SUBSTANTIALLY ALONG THE TRAILING
LOW-LEVEL CONFLUENCE ZONE/SHEAR AXIS ACROSS SOUTHWEST GEORGIA AND
THE FLORIDA PANHANDLE...WHERE THE RISK OF TORNADOES IS EXPECTED TO
LOWER AFTER 14Z.

HOWEVER...BENEATH A LINGERING 40+ KT SOUTHERLY 850 MB JETLET PROGGED
TO NOSE INTO THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS...A MOIST EASTERLY UPSLOPE
COMPONENT COULD CONTRIBUTE TO AN INCREASING RISK FOR BRIEF/ISOLATED
TORNADOES THROUGH MID TO LATE MORNING. LOW-LEVEL SHEAR WILL AT
LEAST BECOME MAXIMIZED AND FAVORABLE ACROSS THIS REGION. HIGH
BOUNDARY LAYER MOISTURE CONTENT WILL ALSO BE CONDUCIVE.
BUT...CONSIDERABLE CLOUD COVER/PRECIPITATION MAY MITIGATE OR AT
LEAST SLOW THE ONSET OF THIS POTENTIAL.

AREAS AFFECTED...PARTS OF WRN FL...SERN AL INTO WRN GA

CONCERNING...TORNADO WATCH 865...

VALID 260945Z - 261115Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR TORNADO WATCH 865 CONTINUES.

EARLIER ENHANCEMENT OF CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT ACROSS THE REGION
APPEARED TO BE IN CONJUNCTION WITH STRONGER MID-LEVEL FORCING
ASSOCIATED WITH AN IMPULSE LIFTING THROUGH THE EASTERN PERIPHERY OF
THE REMNANTS OF FAY. THIS FORCING IS NOW SHIFTING INTO THE SOUTHERN
APPALACHIANS...LEAVING GENERALLY WEAK CONVECTION ALONG A TRAILING
CONFLUENCE BAND NEAR OR JUST EAST OF THE ALABAMA/GEORGIA BORDER
THROUGH THE WESTERN FLORIDA PANHANDLE INTO THE NORTHEASTERN GULF OF
MEXICO.

RECENT INTENSIFICATION WITHIN THIS BAND EAST OF VALPARAISO FL INTO
THE DOTHAN GA VICINITY APPEARS TO BE IN RESPONSE TO THE NEXT IMPULSE
PIVOTING AROUND THE SOUTHERN PERIPHERY OF THE MID-LEVEL CIRCULATION.
AND...THIS FORCING COULD CONTRIBUTE TO FURTHER ENHANCEMENT OF
STORMS INTO THE PANAMA CITY FL AREA...ALBANY GA...PERHAPS THE
MACON/WARNER ROBINS AREA...BY 12-14Z. SURFACE DEW POINTS ACROSS
THIS REGION REMAIN IN THE MID 70S...WITH RUC GUIDANCE INDICATING
1000-1500 J/KG OF MIXED LAYER CAPE. GIVEN THE CONTINUING PRESENCE
OF MODERATE TO STRONG LOW-LEVEL SHEAR...IN PROXIMITY TO A BELT OF
30-40+ KT SOUTHERLY 850 MB FLOW EAST OF THE SURFACE LOW NOW SLOWLY
SHIFTING ACROSS THE TUSCALOOSA AL VICINITY...THE POTENTIAL FOR BRIEF
TORNADIC DEVELOPMENT COULD STILL INCREASE ONCE AGAIN NEAR/SHORTLY
AFTER DAYBREAK.

WITH THE GFS MOVING A SUBTLE UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH ACROSS THE NRN

SOLUTION APPEARS TO BE FAVORABLE FOR ANY SUBSTANTIAL SEVERE WEATHER
