DAY1SVR: Day 1 Convective Outlook

ACUS01 KWNS 191943
SWODY1
SPC AC 191940

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0240 PM CDT WED MAR 19 2008

VALID 192000Z - 201200Z

..THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS FROM THE FL PANHANDLE...NWD TO
THE DELMARVA...INCLUDING REGIONS WEST OF THE APPALACHIANS INTO ERN
KY/TN...

..ERN TN/ERN KY/WV...

STRONG MID LEVEL DRYING HAS SPREAD AHEAD OF SFC FRONT THAT IS
ADVANCING ACROSS KY AND TN. THIS DRYING HAS ALLOWED BOUNDARY LAYER
TO WARM/DESTABILIZE WHERE SFC DEW POINTS ARE NOW RISING THROUGH THE
MID 50S TO NEAR 60F. OVER THE LAST HOUR OR SO CONVECTION HAS
DEEPENED SIGNIFICANTLY ALONG SFC WIND SHIFT AND ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORMS HAVE DEVELOPED. IN FACT...SEVERAL SMALL SUPERCELLS
HAVE EVOLVED ACROSS MIDDLE TN WITHIN AN ENVIRONMENT SEEMINGLY
FAVORABLE FOR TORNADOES. GIVEN THE FOCUSED/STRONG ASCENT ACROSS
THIS REGION IT APPEARS THIS CONCENTRATED LINE OF BROKEN SUPERCELLS
WILL ADVANCE QUICKLY NEWD AHEAD OF FRONTAL SURGE INTO ERN PORTIONS
OF KY/TN BEFORE SPREADING INTO SRN WV. ISOLATED TORNADOES AND
DAMAGING WINDS ARE POSSIBLE WITH STRONGER CORES.

..ELSEWHERE...

DOWNSTREAM...WIDESPREAD CLOUDINESS EXISTS WITHIN WARM CONVEYOR BELT
FROM THE PANHANDLE OF FL...NEWD ACROSS GA INTO WRN PORTIONS OF THE
CAROLINAS AND VA. WEAK CONVECTIVE LINE WITH SPARSE LIGHTNING IS
OBSERVED ACROSS PORTIONS OF GA. THERMODYNAMIC ENVIRONMENT EAST OF
THE APPALACHIANS INTO NRN FL IS VERY MARGINAL FOR SEVERE
THUNDERSTORMS BUT SHEAR PROFILES ARE QUITE STRONG. EVEN IN THE
ABSENCE OF LIGHTNING THERE APPEARS TO BE SOME THEAT FOR LOCALLY
STRONG OR PERHAPS DAMAGING WINDS WITH NEAR-SFC BASED CONVECTION AS
ANY MIXING COULD TRANSPORT STRONGER FLOW ALOFT THROUGH DOWNDRAFT
PROCESSES.

FARTHER NORTH...IF SUFFICIENT BUOYANCY CAN DEVELOP ACROSS THE
DELMARVA THERE MAY BE A LOCALIZED ENHANCED RISK LATER THIS EVENING
ACROSS THIS REGION. STRONGEST FORCING WILL SPREAD ACROSS THE CNTRL
APPALACHIANS INTO THE DELMARVA AS 100+KT SPEED MAX EJECTS NEWD AFTER
00Z. THERMAL PROFILES WILL NEED CONSIDERABLE ADJUSTMENT BEFORE
SFC-BASED CONVECTION IS POSSIBLE...BUT IT APPEARS THIS MAY OCCUR
WITHIN THE 02-04Z TIME FRAME JUST AHEAD OF THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY.
LOCALLY DAMAGING WINDS COULD ACCOMPANY STRONGER STORMS AND PERHAPS
AN ISOLATED TORNADO.

AREAS AFFECTED...PARTS OF GA

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 191849Z - 192045Z

CONVECTIVE LINE CONTINUES MOVING ACROSS WRN GA AND THE FL PANHANDLE
ATTM. WHILE AN ISOLATED DAMAGING GUST WILL BE POSSIBLE THIS
AFTERNOON...THREAT SHOULD REMAIN LIMITED AND WW ISSUANCE APPEARS
UNLIKELY ATTM.

DAYTIME HEATING CONTINUES ACROSS THE SERN HALF OF GA...AHEAD OF
ONGOING CONVECTIVE LINE. DESPITE THIS...AND DEWPOINTS INTO THE LOW
60S...VERY WEAK MID-LEVEL LAPSE RATES WILL CONTINUE TO HINDER ANY
APPRECIABLE DESTABILIZATION. ALONG WITH 16Z ATLANTA GA RAOB AND
MODEL FORECAST SOUNDINGS...LACK OF OBSERVED LIGHTNING CONFIRMS THIS
LACK OF INSTABILITY.

ANY THREAT FOR DAMAGING WINDS ACROSS THIS REGION IS THE RESULT OF A
VERY STRONG DEEP-LAYER WIND FIELD IN PLACE ACROSS THE AREA. THE 16Z
ATLANTA RAOB REVEALED 50 TO 60 KT LOW-LEVEL JET AND 85 KT SWLYS AT
H5...WITH EVEN STRONGER MID-LEVEL FLOW PER RECENT VWPS. THUS --
WHILE LACK OF INSTABILITY WILL STRONGLY HINDER SEVERE
THREAT...STRENGTH OF WIND FIELD SUGGESTS THAT A POTENTIAL FOR A
LOCALLY-DAMAGING GUST OR TWO WILL LINGER THROUGH THE AFTERNOON.

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE

VALID 191832Z - 191930Z

BROKEN CONVECTIVE LINE ACROSS MIDDLE TN MAY INTENSIFY AS IT LIKELY
PROGRESSES E/NEWD INTO ERN TN/SERN KY THROUGH MID-AFTERNOON. AMIDST
A VERY FAVORABLE LOW/DEEP-LAYER SHEAR PROFILE...A BREAK IN CLOUD
COVERAGE OUT AHEAD OF THE LINE MAY PROVE ADEQUATE FOR SUFFICIENT
HEATING WITH ORGANIZED LOW-TOPPED SUPERCELL DEVELOPMENT POSSIBLE.
AREA WILL BE MONITORED FOR SIGNS OF FURTHER INTENSIFICATION AND A
POSSIBLE WW.

AS OF 1830Z...RADAR/VIS SATELLITE IMAGERY DEPICTS A BROKEN LINE OF
SHOWERS ROUGHLY FROM JACKSON TO GILES COUNTY IN MIDDLE TN...WITH A
60 MILE WIDE CORRIDOR AHEAD OF THE LINE WITH SCATTERED CLOUD
COVERAGE. THIS HAS RESULTED IN SURFACE TEMPERATURES WARMING INTO THE
LOWER TO MIDDLE 70S WITHIN THIS NARROW CORRIDOR OF GREATER
INSOLATION /PER LATEST MESONET OBSERVATIONS/. MODIFIED RUC SOUNDINGS
SUGGEST MLCAPE VALUES SHOULD BE APPROACHING 500 J/KG IN THIS
AXIS...GIVEN SURFACE DEW POINTS HOLDING IN THE UPPER 50S TO LOWER
60S. WITH AN INTENSE MID-LEVEL JET OVERHEAD /AROUND 100 KT AT 500
MB/ AND STRONG DIFFERENTIAL CYCLONIC VORTICITY ADVECTION...THE
DEGREE OF FORCING/SHEAR COULD BE SUFFICIENT FOR LOW-TOPPED
SUPERCELLS/SQUALL LINE...EVEN WITH WEAK INSTABILITY. GIVEN 0-1 KM
SRH WELL IN EXCESS OF 300 M2/S2...DAMAGING WINDS AND ISOLATED
TORNADOES WOULD BE THE PRIMARY THREATS.
