AREAS AFFECTED...SE AZ/SW NM

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH UNLIKELY

VALID 172059Z - 172230Z

ISOLATED LARGE HAIL AND/OR DAMAGING GUSTS WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH
STORMS S OF THE MID LEVEL LOW OVER ERN AZ. SPARSE COVERAGE AND THE
MODEST MAGNITUDE OF THE THREAT SHOULD PRECLUDE THE NEED FOR A SEVERE
THUNDERSTORM WATCH.

A CLOSED MID LEVEL LOW CONTINUES TO DRIFT SLOWLY SWD OVER ERN
AZ...WHILE BOUNDARY LAYER DEWPOINTS IN THE MID 50S HAVE SPREAD WWD
INTO SE AZ IN THE POST-FRONTAL ELY FLOW. INVOF THE BAROCLINIC
ZONE...THE RICHER BOUNDARY LAYER MOISTURE AND SURFACE HEATING HAVE
RESULTED IN SUFFICIENT DESTABILIZATION FOR NEW STRONG/SEVERE
THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT ALONG THE SRN FRINGE OF THE MID LEVEL LOW.
DEEP LAYER VERTICAL SHEAR IS AT LEAST MARGINALLY FAVORABLE FOR
SUPERCELL STORMS /EFFECTIVE BULK SHEAR OF 30-35 KT/...WHICH MAY
LOCALLY ENHANCE THE THREAT FOR ISOLATED LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING
GUSTS. AT THE PRESENT TIME...STORM COVERAGE/INTENSITY ARE EXPECTED
TO REMAIN A LITTLE TOO MARGINAL TO WARRANT A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM
WATCH...BUT THIS AREA WILL CONTINUE TO BE MONITORED THIS AFTERNOON.

DAY1SVR: Day 1 Convective Outlook

ACUS01 KWNS 171935
SWODY1
SPC AC 171932

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0232 PM CDT THU SEP 17 2009

VALID 172000Z - 181200Z

...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

ONE MINOR CHANGE TO THE 20Z OUTLOOK IS TO TAKE THUNDER OUT OF SOUTH
TEXAS. ELSEWHERE...THE ONLY AREA OF CONCERN IS OVER SE AZ AND SW NM
TO THE EAST SOUTHEAST OF AN UPPER-LEVEL LOW. VISIBLE SATELLITE
IMAGERY CURRENTLY SHOWS AN EXPANDING FIELD OF CUMULUS WHICH SHOULD
CONTINUE TO INCREASE THIS AFTERNOON AS SFC TEMPS WARM. SCATTERED
THUNDERSTORMS WERE ALREADY ONGOING AND SHOULD EXPAND SWD WITH TIME
LATE THIS AFTERNOON. SFC DEWPOINTS IN THE UPPER 50S F...MODERATE
VERTICAL SHEAR PROFILES AND STEEP LAPSE RATES MAY BE ENOUGH FOR A
MARGINAL SEVERE THREAT FOR STRONG GUSTY WINDS AND HAIL FROM EL PASO
WWD INTO FAR SE AZ.

..BROYLES.. 09/17/2009

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 1124 AM CDT THU SEP 17 2009/

...SYNOPSIS...
A RATHER STAGNANT PATTERN WILL PERSIST OVER THE CONUS THROUGH
TONIGHT...WITH THE PRIMARY BELT OF WESTERLIES CONFINED TO NEAR AND N
OF THE U.S./CANADIAN BORDER. THE MORE ACTIVE CONVECTIVE REGIONS
WILL BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE SLOW-MOVING...VERTICALLY STACKED LOW
OVER E TX...AND A SEPARATE LOW OVER ERN AZ. BANDS OF CONVECTION
WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE DAY TO THE N OF THE CYCLONE CENTER FROM NE
TX ENEWD INTO NRN MS/AL AND TN...ALONG A WEAK BAROCLINIC ZONE...AS
WELL AS WITHIN THE WARM SECTOR AND THE DEEP MOISTURE PLUME FROM SE
LA EWD ACROSS MS/AL/S GA. RATHER WEAK MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES AND
LOW-MID LEVEL VERTICAL SHEAR SUGGEST THAT ANY SEVERE STORM THREAT
ACROSS THE GULF COAST WILL BE TOO MARGINAL TO WARRANT THE INCLUSION
OF WIND/HAIL PROBABILITIES.

A SOMEWHAT GREATER THREAT FOR STRONG/ISOLATED SEVERE STORMS IS AGAIN
EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON IN ASSOCIATION WITH THE MID LEVEL LOW
DRIFTING SSEWD OVER ERN AZ. A BELT OF 25-50 KT MID-UPPER WLY FLOW
TO THE S OF THE LOW...AS WELL AS AN INFLUX OF BOUNDARY LAYER
DEWPOINTS IN THE MID 50S FROM THE E...WILL CONTRIBUTE TO SUFFICIENT
INSTABILITY AND VERTICAL SHEAR FOR ORGANIZED MULTICELL CLUSTERS AND
MARGINAL SUPERCELL STRUCTURES. ISOLATED HAIL AND WIND GUSTS NEAR
SEVERE CRITERIA WILL BE POSSIBLE THIS AFTERNOON IN THE AREA OF
STRONGER INSTABILITY ON THE W EDGE OF THE THICKER CLOUDS AND RICHER
MOISTURE.

DAY 2 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1210 PM CDT THU SEP 17 2009

VALID 181200Z - 191200Z

...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

A LARGE UPPER-LEVEL RIDGE WILL DOMINATE MOST OF THE CONUS FRIDAY AS
AN UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH MOVES EWD ACROSS THE NERN STATES. BENEATH THE
RIDGE IN THE GULF COAST STATES...A MOIST AIRMASS WILL BE IN PLACE
FRIDAY AFTERNOON WITH SFC DEWPOINTS IN THE LOWER 70S F. SFC HEATING
DURING THE DAY WILL RESULT IN SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS THUNDERSTORM
DEVELOPMENT FROM THE ARKLATEX EWD ACROSS THE TN VALLEY TO SC AND FL.
ALTHOUGH MODERATE INSTABILITY MAY DEVELOP IN SOME AREAS...VERTICAL
SHEAR SHOULD NOT BE STRONG ENOUGH FOR A SEVERE THREAT.

ELSEWHERE...SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS SHOULD DEVELOP ACROSS THE FOUR
CORNERS REGION AS SFC TEMPS WARM DURING THE DAY. THIS ACTIVITY IS
NOT EXPECTED TO CONTAIN A SEVERE THREAT.

DAY1SVR: Day 1 Convective Outlook

ACUS01 KWNS 171627
SWODY1
SPC AC 171624

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1124 AM CDT THU SEP 17 2009

VALID 171630Z - 181200Z

...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

...SYNOPSIS...

MOISTURE.
