SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE POSSIBLE DURING THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING
ACROSS NORTHEAST TEXAS AND SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA. TORNADOES...LARGE
HAIL...AND DAMAGING WINDS ARE ALL POSSIBLE...WITH A TORNADO WATCH
POSSIBLE DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS.

POSSIBLE SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER EPISODE IS BEGINNING TO SETUP
ACROSS THE DISCUSSION REGION AS THE ATMOSPHERE DESTABILIZES EARLY
THIS AFTERNOON. CURRENTLY...ELEVATED CONVECTION OVER NORTHEAST
TEXAS...INITIATED BY WARM AIR ADVECTION WITHIN A CONTINUING LOW
LEVEL JET...IS GRADUALLY GAINING STRENGTH AS LOW-LEVEL CLOUDS ERODE
AND SURFACE HEATING/INSTABILITY INCREASES. SOUTHEASTERLY LOW-LEVEL
WIND FIELDS ARE BEGINNING TO STRENGTHEN IN RESPONSE TO A DEEPENING
SURFACE LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IN THE TEXAS PANHANDLE...INCREASING
LOW-LEVEL SHEAR AND EFFECTIVE HELICITY VALUES TO AROUND 200-250. 18Z
DFW SOUNDING SHOWS CAP HAS ERODED ACROSS THE REGION...WITH MLCAPE
AROUND 1500 J/KG ALONG THE I-35 CORRIDOR DECREASING EASTWARD TO
AROUND 1000 J/KG. IF CURRENT CONVECTION ACROSS NE TX/SE OK CONTINUES
TO STRENGTHEN...A WATCH WILL BE REQUIRED...WITH LARGE HAIL THE
INITIAL THREAT. AS LOW-LEVEL SHEAR GRADUALLY INCREASES DURING THE

DAY1SVR: Day 1 Convective Outlook

ACUS01 KWNS 101952
SWODY1
SPC AC 101949

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0149 PM CST TUE FEB 10 2009

VALID 102000Z - 111200Z

...THERE IS A MDT RISK OF SVR TSTMS ACROSS MUCH OF OK/NCNTRL TX
AR/NWRN LA...

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS SURROUNDING THE MDT RISK FROM
SERN TX INTO KS/MO/SRN IL...

...SRN/CNTRL PLAINS...MS VALLEY...

STRONG BOUNDARY LAYER HEATING CONTINUES ALONG WRN FRINGE OF RAPIDLY
MOISTENING WARM SECTOR FROM NWRN TX...NNEWD INTO NCNTRL OK. LATEST
DIAGNOSTIC DATA INDICATES MINIMAL INHIBITION EXISTS ALONG AN AXIS
FROM NEAR ABI TO FSI WHERE SFC-3KM LAPSE RATES ARE NOW ROUGHLY
9C/KM. CU FIELD IS EXPANDING/DEEPENING RAPIDLY ALONG THIS
DESTABILIZING AXIS AND SUPERCELLS ARE DEVELOPING NE OF FSI TO WEST
OF PNC. 18Z SOUNDINGS FROM OKC AND FTW STRONGLY SUPPORT RAPID
DEVELOPMENT OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS WITH STEEP MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES
AND MUCAPE ON THE ORDER OF 2000 J/KG...ABOUT 1000 J/KG HIGHER WITHIN
WARMER ENVIRONMENT JUST WEST OF I-35. INITIAL STORM MODE WILL BE
SUPERCELLULAR IN NATURE AND VERY LARGE HAIL IS CERTAINLY POSSIBLE
GIVEN THE VERY UNSTABLE COLD PROFILES OBSERVED...ROUGHLY -20 AT
500MB. TORNADOES ARE ALSO POSSIBLE AS NEAR 60F DEW POINTS ARE
INGESTED INTO THESE UPDRAFTS.

JUST DOWNSTREAM FROM NERN TX INTO CNTRL AR...WARM ADVECTION IS
GRADUALLY INCREASING AND LARGE SCALE ASCENT APPEARS TO BE PRIMARILY
RESPONSIBLE FOR EXPANDING SHOWERS/THUNDERSTORMS. 18Z SOUNDING FROM
SHV DEPICTS STRONG SHEAR THROUGH MID LEVELS AND MORE THAN SUFFICIENT
INSTABILITY FOR SUPERCELL STRUCTURES.

LATEST THINKING IS LLJ WILL BEGIN TO INCREASE BY LATE AFTERNOON IN
RESPONSE TO APPROACHING UPPER TROUGH...LIKELY IN EXCESS OF 70KT
ACROSS THE ARKLATEX. THIS WILL UNDOUBTEDLY ENHANCE LOW LEVEL
SHEAR/HELICITY ACROSS A GOOD PORTION OF THE WARM SECTOR WHERE
SUPERCELLS WILL LIKELY BE ONGOING. AS DEW POINTS RISE INTO THE
LOWER 60S THE TORNADO THREAT WILL LIKELY INCREASE...ESPECIALLY
DURING THE EVENING HOURS. A FEW STRONG TORNADOES ARE POSSIBLE WITH
ANY DISCRETE SUPERCELLS...ESPECIALLY IN THE MDT RISK REGION. LATE
TONIGHT STRONG FORCING WILL ENHANCE STORM MERGERS AND PERHAPS ASSIST
IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF A LINEAR MCS OVER THE MS VALLEY. IF THIS
OCCURS THEN DAMAGING WINDS WILL BECOME LIKELY ACROSS PORTIONS OF SRN
MO/AR INTO NRN LA.

AREAS AFFECTED...N CENTRAL AND NERN OK INTO S CENTRAL/SERN KS

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...WATCH POSSIBLE

VALID 101929Z - 102130Z

THREAT FOR SEVERE STORMS IS FORECAST TO INCREASE SLOWLY ACROSS N
CENTRAL AND NERN OK AND NWD INTO S CENTRAL AND SERN KS. NEW WW MAY
BE REQUIRED WITHIN THE NEXT 1-2 HOURS OVER THIS REGION.

LATEST SATELLITE AND RADAR IMAGERY REVEAL INCREASING CONVECTION
ACROSS N CENTRAL OK...WITH A FEW LIGHTNING STRIKES NOW OBSERVED
INVOF END. ATTM...IT APPEARS THAT STORMS ARE HIGH-BASED /NEAR 700
MB/ PER 17Z LMN /LAMONT OK/ RAOB. WITH ONLY MINIMAL INSTABILITY
WITHIN THE CLOUD-BEARING LAYER...SEVERE THREAT APPEARS LIMITED IN
THE SHORT TERM.

HOWEVER...SLOW DESTABILIZATION IS OCCURRING ACROSS THE DISCUSSION
AREA...AS LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE CONTINUES TO SPREAD SLOWLY NWD. AS
THIS OCCURS...EXPECT A SLOW INCREASE IN POTENTIAL FOR LOWER-BASED
STORMS -- AND ASSOCIATED SEVERE POTENTIAL. GREATEST THREAT WILL
LIKELY EXIST E OF A LINE FROM EMP TO PNC...WHICH COULD EVENTUALLY
REQUIRE WW ISSUANCE. WHILE PRIMARY THREATS IN THIS REGION WOULD
LIKELY BE HAIL AND LOCALLY-DAMAGING WINDS DUE TO LESS FAVORABLE

AREAS AFFECTED...CENTRAL OK SWWD INTO WRN PORTIONS OF CENTRAL TX

CONCERNING...SEVERE POTENTIAL...TORNADO WATCH LIKELY

VALID 101817Z - 102015Z

SUPERCELL STORM DEVELOPMENT IS EXPECTED IN THE NEXT 1-2 HOURS FROM S
CENTRAL OKLAHOMA SWWD INTO PARTS OF CENTRAL TX. RESULTING SEVERE
THREAT -- INCLUDING THE POTENTIAL FOR TORNADOES -- WILL REQUIRE
TORNADO WATCH ISSUANCE.

LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE CONTINUES SPREADING NWD ATTM...WITH LOW 60S
DEWPOINTS NOW N OF THE RED RIVER INTO S CENTRAL OK. FROM THIS AREA
SWD...DAYTIME HEATING THROUGH A PARTLY CLOUDY SKY HAS PUSHED
TEMPERATURES INTO THE UPPER 60S/LOW 70S...YIELDING MIXED-LAYER CAPE
IN EXCESS OF 1000 J/KG PER LATEST OBJECTIVE ANALYSES. AS THE UPPER
SYSTEM CONTINUES APPROACHING FROM THE SRN ROCKIES...ADDITIONAL
DESTABILIZATION AND INCREASED LARGE-SCALE UVV SUGGESTS THAT STORM
DEVELOPMENT SHOULD OCCUR WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. INITIAL
DEVELOPMENT IS EXPECTED ALONG A DEVELOPING DRYLINE...NW EXTENDING
FROM NEAR LTS SSWWD INTO WRN PORTIONS OF N CENTRAL TX.

ALONG WITH DEPICTING A DEEPENING/ESSENTIALLY-UNCAPPED BOUNDARY
LAYER...18Z FORT WORTH RAOB REVEALS AN INCREASE IN THE WIND FIELD
WITH HEIGHT. AS FLOW CONTINUES TO STRENGTHEN WITH THE APPROACH OF
THE UPPER SYSTEM...SHEAR WILL BECOME INCREASINGLY-FAVORABLE FOR
UPDRAFT ROTATION. AS A RESULT...STORMS INITIATING INVOF THE DRYLINE
ARE EXPECTED TO BECOME RAPIDLY SUPERCELLULAR. ONCE THIS
OCCURS...THREAT FOR LARGE HAIL AND LOCALLY-DAMAGING WINDS WILL EXIST
-- ALONG WITH ISOLATED TORNADOES. THE THREAT SHOULD INCREASE WITH
TIME THROUGH THE AFTERNOON...AS AN INCREASINGLY-FAVORABLE
ENVIRONMENT SUPPORTS AN EXPANSION IN STORM COVERAGE WITH TIME.
