AREAS AFFECTED...ERN NM...TX PANHANDLE...WEST TX

CONCERNING...SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 834...

VALID 160348Z - 160445Z

THE SEVERE WEATHER THREAT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH 834
CONTINUES.

A SEVERE THREAT LOCATED IN NE NM AND NEAR THE TX STATELINE SW OF
DALHART SHOULD CONTINUE TO SPREAD SEWD WITH DAMAGING WINDS AND
ISOLATED LARGE HAIL POSSIBLE OVER THE NEXT 2 TO 3 HOURS. WW 834 HAS
BEEN LOCALLY EXTENDED SEWD INTO THE AMARILLO AREA.

03Z SFC ANALYSIS SHOWS A QUASI-STATIONARY FRONT LOCATED IN NE NM
WITH RUC ANALYSIS INDICATING AN AXIS OF MODERATE INSTABILITY
EXISTING JUST SOUTH OF THE BOUNDARY EXTENDING EWD INTO THE WRN TX
PANHANDLE. A CLUSTER OF STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS IS ONGOING JUST
SOUTH OF THE BOUNDARY AND IS JUST AHEAD OF A SHORTWAVE TROUGH
ANALYZED BY THE RUC ROTATING AROUND THE SRN EDGE OF THE CNTRL
ROCKIES UPPER-LEVEL LOW. THE LATEST PROFILER FROM TUCUMCARI HAS AN
IMPRESSIVE WIND SHEAR PROFILE WITH STRONG DIRECTIONAL SHEAR IN THE
LOW LEVELS RESULTING IN 40 TO 45 KT OF 0-6 KM SHEAR. ALTHOUGH
INSTABILITY HAS WEAKENED SOME...THE AMOUNT OF SHEAR MAY CONTINUE TO
SUPPORT AN ISOLATED SUPERCELL/LARGE HAIL THREAT FOR A FEW MORE
HOURS. WIND DAMAGE WILL ALSO BE LIKELY WITH BOWING SEGMENTS DRIFTING
SEWD INTO THE AMARILLO AREA AROUND MIDNIGHT OR JUST AFTER.

DAY 2 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1230 PM CDT FRI AUG 15 2008

VALID 161200Z - 171200Z

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS ACROSS PORTIONS OF NEW
ENGLAND...

...SYNOPSIS...
HIGHLY AMPLIFIED LONGWAVE PATTERN WILL PERSIST OVER THE CONUS ON
SATURDAY. WITHIN THE LONGWAVE TROUGH OVER THE GREAT LAKES REGION AND
NORTHEAST/MID ATLANTIC STATES...PRIMARY UPPER LOW WILL SHIFT
EAST-NORTHEASTWARD OVER NEW ENGLAND...WITH THE SOUTHERN PORTION OF
THE BROAD TROUGH REMAINING OVER THE CENTRAL/SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS.
OVER THE ROCKIES...CUT-OFF UPPER LOW WILL SLOWLY SHIFT SOUTHEASTWARD
OVER CO/FAR SOUTHERN WY.

...NEW ENGLAND STATES...
PRIMARY SHORTWAVE TROUGH/UPPER LOW WILL IS FORECAST TO SPREAD FROM
UPSTATE NY INTO NEW ENGLAND DURING THE DAY ON SATURDAY...WITH A WEAK
COLD FRONT/SURFACE TROUGH ACROSS NEW ENGLAND LIKELY TO PROVIDE A
FOCUS FOR TSTM DEVELOPMENT/INTENSIFICATION SATURDAY AFTERNOON.
ALONG/AHEAD OF THE UPPER LOW/SURFACE FEATURE...MODEST BOUNDARY LAYER
HEATING BENEATH COOL PROFILES ALOFT /-16C AT 500 MB/ WILL YIELD
STEEP LOW TO MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES WITH THE POSSIBILITY OF MLCAPE TO
1000-1250 J/KG. OWING TO BACKING MID LEVEL FLOW WITH THE EASTWARD
ADVANCEMENT OF THE UPPER LOW...VERTICAL SHEAR IS EXPECTED TO
GRADUALLY WEAKEN DURING THE AFTERNOON. NEVERTHELESS...SHEAR PROFILES
WILL BE SUFFICIENT FOR RELATIVELY ORGANIZED MULTICELLS/SMALL LINE
SEGMENTS...AND PERHAPS EVEN A FEW MARGINAL/SHORT DURATION
SUPERCELLS. GIVEN THE COOL PROFILES ALOFT...SEVERE HAIL WILL LIKELY
BE THE PRIMARY SEVERE RISK...WITH STRONG GUSTY WINDS A POSSIBILITY
AS WELL.

...CAROLINAS/GA...
SOUTHERN PORTION OF EASTERN STATES TROUGH IS FORECAST TO LINGER OVER
THE CENTRAL/SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS ON SATURDAY...WITH ASSOCIATED
SURFACE COLD FRONT ACROSS THE CAROLINAS/EASTERN GA. SUFFICIENT LARGE
SCALE ASCENT AND BOUNDARY LAYER HEATING/DESTABILIZATION SHOULD LEAD
TO INCREASING TSTM COVERAGE BY AFTERNOON ACROSS THE PIEDMONT/COASTAL
AREAS OF THE CAROLINAS INTO EASTERN/SOUTHERN GA. STEEP LOW LEVEL
LAPSE RATES/MODERATE VERTICAL SHEAR WILL FAVOR DAMAGING WIND GUSTS
AND SOME SEVERE HAIL RISK WITH THE STRONGEST TSTMS SATURDAY
AFTERNOON/EARLY EVENING.

...AZ/NM/SOUTHERN CO...
AS CUT-OFF UPPER LOW SLOWLY MOVES OVER CO...SOMEWHAT STRONGER UPPER
FLOW/COOLER MID LEVEL TEMPERATURES WILL SETTLE SOUTHWARD ACROSS THE
FOUR CORNERS REGION ON SATURDAY. TSTMS ARE LIKELY TO INCREASE OVER
THE HIGHER TERRAIN/MOUNTAIN AREAS DURING THE AFTERNOON. GIVEN THE
RELATIVELY STRONGER FLOW/COOL THERMODYNAMIC PROFILES ALOFT...SEVERE
HAIL/STRONG WIND GUSTS WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THE STRONGEST TSTMS
THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING.

...UPPPER GREAT LAKES REGION...
BENEATH MODERATE NORTHWEST FLOW ALOFT...BOUNDARY LAYER HEATING/WEAK
LOW LEVEL CONVERGENCE SHOULD LEAD TO ISOLATED TSTM DEVELOPMENT
SATURDAY AFTERNOON. WILL MAINTAIN MARGINAL/ISOLATED SEVERE
PROBABILITIES...BUT WEAK CONVERGENCE AND POOR MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES
WILL SEEMINGLY CONSIDERABLY LIMIT THE MAGNITUDE/EXTENT OF THE SEVERE
THREAT.

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS FROM SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND INTO
THE MID ATLANTIC REGION AND CAROLINAS...

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS OVER PARTS OF THE SOUTHERN HIGH
PLAINS...

MORNING WATER VAPOR IMAGERY AND UPPER AIR ANALYSES SHOW A BROAD
UPPER TROUGH OVER THE GREAT LAKES AND EASTERN UNITED STATES...WITH
ANOTHER AND SMALLER UPPER LOW TRACKING SOUTHWARD ACROSS THE NORTHERN
ROCKIES. THIS RESULTS IN WEST/NORTHWEST FLOW FROM THE CENTRAL
ROCKIES INTO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS AND SOUTHEAST STATES. TWO AREAS
ARE LIKELY TO BE AFFECTED BY STRONG/SEVERE STORMS TODAY: THE MID
ATLANTIC COASTAL AREAS...AND THE SOUTHERN HIGH PLAINS.

...MID ATLANTIC COAST INTO THE CAROLINAS...
CURRENT VISIBLE SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS MOSTLY CLEAR SKIES ACROSS
MUCH OF THE CAROLINAS INTO PARTS EASTERN VA/MD...DE/NJ...AND INTO
SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND. DEWPOINTS IN THIS AREA REMAIN IN THE LOW-MID
60S WHICH WILL YIELD AFTERNOON SBCAPE VALUES AROUND 1500-2500 J/KG.
SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE LIKELY TO INITIATE ALONG WESTERN EDGE OF
INSTABILITY AXIS FROM SOUTHEAST PA INTO THE MOUNTAINS OF WESTERN
VA/NC AND SPREAD SLOWLY EASTWARD. 20-30 KNOTS OF CYCLONIC FLOW
ALOFT...ALONG WITH STEEP LOW LEVEL LAPSE RATES AND SEVERAL WEAK
IMPULSES NOTED ON WATER VAPOR IMAGERY WILL POSE A THREAT OF WIDELY
SCATTERED STRONG-SEVERE STORMS. HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE
POSSIBLE OVER NORTHERN HALF OF THREAT AREA...WITH A LESSENING THREAT
OF HAIL FARTHER SOUTH OVER THE CAROLINAS DUE TO SLIGHTLY WARMER MID
LEVEL TEMPERATURES. STORMS SHOULD BEGIN TO WEAKEN SHORTLY AFTER
SUNSET DUE TO A LOSS OF DIURNAL HEATING.

...SOUTHERN HIGH PLAINS...
MID LEVEL WINDS CONTINUE TO INCREASE ACROSS THE SOUTHERN HIGH PLAINS
TODAY AS UPPER LOW DRIFTS SOUTHWARD TOWARD REGION.
MEANWHILE...MODEL GUIDANCE SUGGESTS EASTERLY UPSLOPE LOW LEVEL FLOW
ALSO INCREASES BY LATER THIS EVENING OVER EASTERN NM AND SOUTHEAST
CO. THESE FACTORS WILL RESULT IN AN INCREASINGLY FAVORABLE VERTICAL
SHEAR ENVIRONMENT FOR ORGANIZED/SUPERCELL STORMS FROM THE RATON
RIDGE SOUTHWARD. MORNING VISIBLE SATELLITE IMAGERY SHOWS WIDESPREAD
LOW STRATUS OVER THIS REGION WHICH WILL RETARD DAYTIME HEATING.
HOWEVER...THESE CLOUDS ARE LIKELY TO DISSIPATE BY MID AFTERNOON
ALLOWING FOR CONVECTIVE INITIATION ALONG THE FOOTHILLS. THESE
STORMS WILL SPREAD SOUTHEASTWARD AND POSE A THREAT OF LARGE HAIL AND
DAMAGING WINDS. EASTWARD EXTENT OF THREAT INTO WEST TX WILL BE
DEPENDENT ON MESOSCALE ORGANIZATION OF CONVECTIVE CLUSTERS THIS
EVENING.

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

VALID 151300Z - 161200Z

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS INTO EARLY TONIGHT FOR THE SRN
HIGH PLAINS...

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS TODAY FOR THE MID ATLANTIC INTO
PARTS OF SRN NEW ENGLAND...

...SRN HIGH PLAINS THROUGH EARLY TONIGHT...
A CLOSED MID LEVEL LOW NOW OVER N CENTRAL WY WILL DRIFT SSWWD TOWARD
THE CO/WY/UT BORDER REGION THROUGH EARLY SATURDAY...AROUND THE ERN
PERIPHERY OF A BLOCKING RIDGE SITUATED FROM NV NWD TO THE INTERIOR
PAC NW. AT THE SURFACE...A SERIES OF FRONTAL SURGES ASSOCIATED WITH
THE MID LEVEL LOW AND MULTIPLE THUNDERSTORM OUTFLOWS ACROSS THE
CENTRAL/SRN HIGH PLAINS HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO AN EFFECTIVE BOUNDARY
LOCATION FROM N CENTRAL AND W CENTRAL TX INTO ERN NM. THE RECENT
THUNDERSTORM CLUSTERS HAVE ALSO REDUCED MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES ACROSS
MUCH OF THE CENTRAL/SRN PLAINS REGION. HOWEVER...UPSLOPE FLOW OF
BOUNDARY LAYER DEWPOINTS IN THE LOW 60S TO THE N OF THE
FRONT/OUTFLOW BOUNDARY AND DAYTIME HEATING ON THE SRN/WRN FRINGES OF
THE COLD POOL SHOULD RESULT IN MODERATE INSTABILITY THIS AFTERNOON
OVER W TX AND ERN NM.

EXPECT THUNDERSTORM CLUSTERS TO FORM DURING THE DAY AND MOVE SEWD
ALONG THE IMMEDIATE COOL SIDE OF THE FRONT/OUTFLOW. VERTICAL SHEAR
SHOULD BE SUFFICIENT FOR ORGANIZED MULTICELL CLUSTERS AND SUPERCELLS
CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING WINDS AND LARGE HAIL. PROXIMITY OF
THE MID LEVEL LOW AND SEVERAL EMBEDDED SHORTWAVE TROUGHS...AS WELL
AS RELATIVELY WEAK CONVECTIVE INHIBITION WITH SURFACE TEMPERATURES
IN THE 80S...SUGGEST THAT CONVECTION WILL FORM BY EARLY AFTERNOON
AND PERSIST INTO TONIGHT...THOUGH THE SEVERE THREAT WILL DIMINISH
TONIGHT AS INSTABILITY WANES.

...MID ATLANTIC TO SRN NEW ENGLAND TODAY...
A DIFFUSE BAROCLINIC ZONE WILL MOVE ONLY SLOWLY EWD TODAY IN ADVANCE
OF A MID LEVEL TROUGH PROGRESSING EWD FROM THE LOWER GREAT LAKES
REGION. THOUGH MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES ARE NOT STEEP...BOUNDARY LAYER
DEWPOINTS WELL INTO THE 60S...DAYTIME HEATING IN CLOUD BREAKS...AND
RELATIVELY COOL 500 MB TEMPERATURES OF -12 TO -15 C WILL ALL
CONTRIBUTE OF MLCAPE VALUES APPROACHING 750-1000 J/KG TODAY.
EFFECTIVE BULK SHEAR WILL BE SUFFICIENT FOR ORGANIZED MULTICELL
CLUSTERS...AND PERHAPS SOME SUPERCELL STRUCTURES. THE PRIMARY
THREATS WILL BE HAIL AOB 1 INCH IN DIAMETER AND ISOLATED DAMAGING
OUTFLOW GUSTS THROUGH THE AFTERNOON.

FARTHER W ACROSS NY/PA...LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE WILL BE MORE LIMITED
COMPARED TO THE I-95 CORRIDOR. STILL...THE CORE OF THE COOLEST MID
LEVEL TEMPERATURES COULD SUPPORT AT LEAST ISOLATED/MARGINALLY SEVERE
HAIL WITH SCATTERED DIURNAL CONVECTION.

...DISCUSSION...

THE PROBABILITY OF ORGANIZED SEVERE CONVECTION WILL REMAIN LOW
BEYOND THE DAY3 PERIOD AS GENERALLY WEAK MID-HIGH LEVEL FLOW IS
EXPECTED TO PERSIST IN CONJUNCTION WITH HIGHER ZONES OF INSTABILITY.
ADDITIONALLY...INCREASINGLY CHAOTIC PATTERN ALONG WITH THE
POTENTIAL TROPICAL ACTIVITY OVER PORTIONS OF THE SRN-ERN U.S. WILL
LIMIT CONFIDENCE THIS PERIOD.

...SOUTHERN PLAINS...

LATEST MODEL GUIDANCE IS IN GENERAL AGREEMENT WITH PROGRESSION OF
UPPER LOW SEWD ACROSS CO INTO THE SRN HIGH PLAINS...THOUGH
DIFFERENCES EXIST IN EXACT LOCATION BY THE END OF THE PERIOD. GFS
IS A BIT MORE PROGRESSIVE WITH UPPER FEATURE INTO THE OK/TX
PANHANDLES...WITH STRONGER FLOW ALONG SRN PERIPHERY ACROSS N TX.
THE NAM IS NOTABLY WEAKER AT MID-HIGH LEVELS ACROSS N TX WITH CENTER
OF UPPER CIRCULATION HOLDING OVER NERN NM. EITHER SCENARIO WILL
LIKELY RESULT IN CONSIDERABLE CONVECTION DOWNSTREAM OVER PORTIONS OF
N TX INTO OK. THE MAIN QUESTION DURING THE DAY3 PERIOD WILL BE THE
EXTENT OF BOUNDARY LAYER DESTABILIZATION BENEATH WEAK-MODEST
MID/HIGH LEVEL FLOW. AT THIS TIME IT REMAINS TO BE SEEN WHETHER
SUFFICIENT INSTABILITY WILL EXIST...WHERE SHEAR WILL SUPPORT
ORGANIZED UPDRAFTS...FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS.

...NO SVR TSTM AREAS FORECAST...

...UPPER GREAT LAKES...

STRONG BOUNDARY LAYER HEATING AND VERY STEEP LAPSE RATES WILL
OVERSPREAD THE UPPER MS VALLEY INTO THE UPPER GREAT LAKES DURING THE
AFTERNOON HOURS ALONG SWRN FRINGE OF STRONGER NWLY FLOW. THIS
REGION WILL BE GLANCED BY ONTARIO SHORTWAVE TROUGH WHICH WILL FORCE
A WEAK COLD FRONT INTO NRN MN/WI/U.P. OF MI BY 17/00Z. WEAK LOW
LEVEL CONVERGENCE WILL LIMIT COVERAGE OF THUNDERSTORMS...BUT STEEP
LAPSE RATES MAY ENHANCE THE PROSPECT FOR GUSTY WINDS WITH ANY STORMS
THAT FORM.

...NEW ENGLAND/SERN U.S...

UPPER TROUGH AXIS WILL PROGRESS EAST OF THE APPALACHIANS DURING THE
AFTERNOON HOURS WITH MODEST SWLY FLOW EXPECTED TO EXTEND FROM THE
CAROLINAS INTO NEW ENGLAND AT MID-HIGH LEVELS. ALTHOUGH DEEP LAYER
SHEAR IS NOT EXPECTED TO BE PARTICULARLY STRONG...SUFFICIENT FLOW
WILL EXIST FOR SUSTAINING AT LEAST MULTI-CELL UPDRAFTS AND SHORT
LINE SEGMENTS AHEAD OF PROGRESSIVE WIND SHIFT. STRONGEST HEATING
WILL OCCUR INLAND NEAR THE FRONTAL BOUNDARY...AND THIS SHOULD AID
UPDRAFT INITIATION/DEVELOPMENT BY MID DAY...ESPECIALLY ACROSS NEW
ENGLAND WHERE MID LEVEL TEMPERATURES WILL BE A BIT COOLER THAN AT
LOWER LATITUDES. FORECAST SOUNDINGS SUGGEST RAPID WARMING ACROSS
NH/VT WILL RESULT IN THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT BY 18Z. THIS ACTIVITY
SHOULD SPREAD ESEWD ACROSS THE REMAINDER OF NEW ENGLAND DURING THE
AFTERNOON HOURS WITH THE POSSIBILITY FOR ISOLATED HAIL OR GUSTY
WINDS. IF INSTABILITY IS GREATER THAN EXPECTED THEN A FEW
SUPERCELLS ARE POSSIBLE ACROSS THIS REGION AND A SLIGHT RISK MAY
NEED TO BE ADDED FOR THIS REGION.

ANOTHER ZONE OF POTENTIAL CONCENTRATED THUNDERSTORMS WILL OCCUR
ACROSS THE CAROLINAS. LARGE SCALE ASCENT SHOULD ENHANCE DEEP
CONVECTION AHEAD OF FRONT WHERE DEEPENING SWLY FLOW WILL BE MORE
THAN ADEQUATE FOR SEWD-MOVING MULTI-CELL STRUCTURES...OR PERHAPS
EVEN AN ISOLATED SUPERCELL. WILL HOLD OFF ISSUING A SLIGHT RISK
ACROSS THIS REGION UNTIL IT BECOMES MORE CLEAR WHETHER THE FRONTAL
POSITION WILL HOLD INLAND OR PERHAPS SURGE TO THE COAST...ULTIMATELY
LIMITING AREAL EXTENT FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS.

...SWRN U.S...

UPPER LOW WILL DROP SLOWLY SWD ACROSS CO SATURDAY. LATEST MODELS
ARE CONSISTENT IN THIS EVOLUTION WHICH WILL RESULT IN SOMEWHAT
STRONGER FLOW SPREADING ACROSS THE 4-CORNERS INTO NRN AZ/NM. A FEW
STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL LIKELY DEVELOP OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF
NRN AZ INTO NWRN NM DURING THE AFTERNOON HOURS. SHEAR PROFILES
ACTUALLY SUPPORT STORM ROTATION AS 40-50KT FLOW WILL LIKELY EXIST IN
THE UPPER THIRD OF DEEPER CONVECTION. GUSTY WINDS AND HAIL MAY
ACCOMPANY THE STRONGER STORMS WHICH WILL PROPAGATE SEWD AT ROUGHLY
15-20KT.

DAY 1 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1238 AM CDT FRI AUG 15 2008

VALID 151200Z - 161200Z

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS THIS AFTN/EVE ACROSS PARTS OF
THE SOUTHERN PLAINS....

...THERE IS A SLGT RISK OF SVR TSTMS TODAY ACROSS MUCH OF THE URBAN
CORRIDOR OF THE NORTHEAST....

...SYNOPSIS...
CUT-OFF FROM THE STRONGER WESTERLIES...MODELS INDICATE THAT THE
INTERIOR U.S. CLOSED LOW WILL CONTINUE A SLOW SOUTHWARD/WESTWARD
MIGRATION FROM THE NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS INTO THE VICINITY OF THE
CENTRAL ROCKIES BY 12Z SATURDAY. THIS MOTION IS EXPECTED TO OCCUR
IN RESPONSE TO NORTHERLY STEERING FLOW TO THE LEE OF THE SHARP UPPER
RIDGE OVER THE WESTERN STATES...AND A COUPLE OF SIGNIFICANT SHORT
WAVE IMPULSES PIVOTING AROUND ITS NORTHERN/WESTERN PERIPHERY.

AT THE SAME TIME...A MID-LEVEL CIRCULATION...WHICH HAS DEVELOPED
WITHIN THE LARGER SCALE EASTERN U.S. UPPER TROUGH...IS PROGGED BY
MODELS TO ACCELERATED EAST NORTHEAST OF THE LOWER GREAT LAKES REGION
TODAY. THIS IS EXPECTED TO OCCUR IN RESPONSE TO THE APPROACH OF A
STRONG SHORT WAVE TOUGH...DIGGING WITHIN THE MAIN BELT OF POLAR
WESTERLIES...ACROSS THE HUDSON/JAMES BAY REGION.

OTHERWISE...SHARP CYCLONIC UPPER FLOW APPEARS LIKELY TO LINGER FROM
THE OHIO VALLEY INTO THE MID ATLANTIC STATES...WITH MORE BROADLY
CYCLONIC FLOW CONTINUING NORTH OF THE FOUR CORNERS INTO THE SOUTHERN
PLAINS...AND ACROSS THE GULF/SOUTH ATLANTIC COAST STATES.

COOL MID-LEVEL TEMPERATURES/WEAK INHIBITION ASSOCIATED WITH THIS
PATTERN IS EXPECTED TO ONCE AGAIN SUPPORT CONSIDERABLE THUNDERSTORM
ACTIVITY TODAY...DESPITE SOMEWHAT LOW MOISTURE LEVELS INLAND OF
GULF/SOUTH ATLANTIC COASTAL AREAS. THE BULK OF THIS ACTIVITY IS
EXPECTED WITH FORCING ACCOMPANYING THE SIGNIFICANT UPPER
FEATURES...FROM THE CENTRAL/SOUTHERN ROCKIES INTO THE SOUTHERN
PLAINS... AND ACROSS THE MID AND NORTHERN ATLANTIC COAST STATES.

...SOUTHERN ROCKIES INTO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS...
MOIST UPSLOPE FLOW TO THE NORTH OF THE CONVECTIVELY GENERATED/
ENHANCED SURFACE BOUNDARY SETTLING SOUTHWARD THROUGH THE SOUTHERN
PLAINS...COUPLED WITH STRONG DAYTIME HEATING...IS EXPECTED TO
CONTRIBUTE TO DESTABILIZATION ALONG AND TO THE LEE OF THE HIGHER
TERRAIN...FROM SOUTHEAST COLORADO INTO EASTERN NEW MEXICO. MIXED
LAYER CAPE OF 1000-2000 J/KG APPEARS POSSIBLE BY THIS AFTERNOON.
AND...IN THE PRESENCE OF MODERATELY STRONG DEEP LAYER SHEAR BENEATH
MODEST NORTHWESTERLY MID-LEVEL FLOW...A FEW SUPERCELLS ARE EXPECTED
AS STORMS DEVELOP OFF THE HIGHER TERRAIN. DIFLUENT/ DIVERGENT UPPER
FLOW SOUTHEAST OF THE APPROACHING CLOSED LOW MAY ENHANCE
CONVECTION...AND POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR CONSOLIDATION INTO AN
ORGANIZED STORM CLUSTER PROPAGATING ALONG THE BAROCLINIC ZONE
ASSOCIATED WITH THE REMNANT BOUNDARY ACROSS EASTERN NEW MEXICO INTO
THE TEXAS SOUTH PLAINS. IF THIS OCCURS...THERE ARE INDICATIONS
AMONG MODEL GUIDANCE THAT THERMODYNAMIC AND SYSTEM RELATIVE WIND
PROFILES COULD BECOME FAVORABLE FOR STRONG COLD POOL EVOLUTION BY
EARLY THIS EVENING...ACCOMPANIED BY A SWATH OR SWATHS OF POTENTIALLY
DAMAGING WIND GUSTS.

...NORTHEAST...
MODELS ARE SUGGESTIVE THAT AN AREA OF STRONGER FORCING AND WEAK TO
MODERATE DESTABILIZATION WILL OVERSPREAD THE URBAN CORRIDOR
NORTHEAST OF WASHINGTON/BALTIMORE INTO THE NEW YORK CITY AREA THIS
AFTERNOON...IN RESPONSE TO THE AFOREMENTIONED DEVELOPING UPPER FLOW
PATTERN. WHILE LOWER/MID TROPOSPHERIC WIND FIELDS ARE EXPECTED TO
REMAIN GENERALLY WEAK...SHEAR ASSOCIATED WITH STRONG AND
STRENGTHENING HIGH-LEVEL FLOW EAST OF THE UPPER TROUGH AXIS MAY
ENHANCE THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY. AT LEAST A FEW SHORT LIVED
SUPERCELLS APPEAR POSSIBLE...PRIMARILY WITH THE RISK FOR LARGE HAIL
AND DAMAGING WIND GUSTS.

...SOUTHERN PLATEAU...
WITHIN OTHERWISE PREDOMINANTLY WESTERLY WIND PROFILES...MODELS
INDICATE A LINGERING EASTERLY MID-LEVEL FLOW COMPONENT
TODAY...GENERALLY TO THE SOUTH OF THE MOGOLLON RIM. THIS WILL
PROVIDE POTENTIAL FOR STORM PROPAGATION OFF THE MOUNTAINS OF
SOUTHEASTERN ARIZONA INTO THE LOWER DESERTS...WHERE THERMODYNAMIC
PROFILES PROBABLY WILL BE FAVORABLE FOR AT LEAST LOCALIZED
DOWNBURSTS AND COLD POOL DEVELOPMENT.
