NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
1158 PM CST MON FEB 04 2008

AREAS AFFECTED...SOUTHEAST COLORADO...NORTHWEST KANSAS

CONCERNING...HEAVY SNOW

VALID 050558Z - 051200Z

HEAVY SNOWFALL RATES...APPROACHING 1-2 INCHES PER HOUR...WILL OCCUR
OVER SOUTHEAST COLORADO AND NORTHWEST KANSAS FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL
HOURS.

A POTENT UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM IS EJECTING FROM THE FOUR CORNERS
REGION INTO THE GREAT PLAINS...AND IS FORECAST TO CONTINUE TO DEEPEN
AND STRENGTHEN. THE LATEST NAM FORECASTS A SERIES OF EMBEDDED
SHORTWAVES MOVING OVER SOUTHEAST CO AND INTO NORTHWEST KS /BY 09 TO
12Z/ AND THESE FEATURES WILL LOCALLY ENHANCE VERTICAL MOTION OVER
THE AREA...AND CONTRIBUTE TO HEAVY SNOWFALL RATES. THE HIGHEST RATES
ARE EXPECTED TO BE ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST MOUNTAINS AND PLAINS IN
COLORADO...AND LOCAL MOSAIC RADAR IMAGERY CURRENTLY INDICATES
INCREASING REFLECTIVITY ESPECIALLY OVER LAS ANIMAS...OTERO...AND
CROWLEY COUNTIES. THE UPPER LEVEL FORCING COMBINED WITH UPSLOPE FLOW
OCCURRING BEHIND A COLD FRONT THAT MOVED THROUGH EARLIER IN THE
DAY...WILL MAINTAIN SEVERAL HOURS OF 1-2 INCH PER HOUR RATES INTO
THE EARLY MORNING HOURS...WITH THE HIGHEST RATES IN STEEP TERRAIN.
