NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
540 PM CDT WED APR 9 2008

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

EASTERN OKLAHOMA

EFFECTIVE THIS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 540 PM UNTIL
1100 PM CDT.

TORNADOES...HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND
GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE
AREAS.

THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 55 STATUTE
MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 55 MILES WEST NORTHWEST OF
MCALESTER OKLAHOMA TO 50 MILES NORTH OF POTEAU OKLAHOMA. FOR A
COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE ASSOCIATED WATCH OUTLINE

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

DISCUSSION...CLUSTER OF INTENSIFYING THUNDERSTORMS OVER CENTRAL OK
WILL TRACK EASTWARD OVER THE NEXT FEW HOURS...ALONG AND SOUTH OF
SURFACE WARM FRONT. INCREASINGLY MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR
MASS...COUPLED WITH STRONG DYNAMIC FORCING...WILL POSE A THREAT OF
SEVERE STORMS. DAMAGING WINDS AND HAIL ARE THE INITIAL THREAT...BUT
AN ISOLATED TORNADOES COULD ALSO OCCUR AS WIND FIELDS STRENGTHEN
THIS EVENING.

AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE
WIND GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO
