DAY 4-8 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0305 AM CST SUN JAN 11 2009
VALID 141200Z - 191200Z
...DISCUSSION...
DURING THE EARLY PART OF THE EXTENDED PERIOD...THE UPPER RIDGE
EXTENDING NWD ALONG THE COAST OF WRN NORTH AMERICA IS EXPECTED TO
BUILD FARTHER NWD WITH DOWNSTREAM FULL LATITUDE LONGWAVE TROUGH
BEING MAINTAINED EAST OF THE ROCKIES. BY D7 /SAT JAN 17TH/ AND D8
/SUN JAN 18TH/...PACIFIC TROUGHS MOVING INTO THE NRN EXTENT OF THE
WRN RIDGE SHOULD BEGIN TO BREAK DOWN THIS UPPER FEATURE AND ADVANCE
IT INLAND ACROSS THE WEST.
IN THE LOW LEVELS...AN AREA OF HIGH PRESSURE MOVING INTO THE GULF
BASIN ON D4 /WED JAN 14TH/ WILL BE FOLLOWED ON D5 /THU JAN 15TH/ BY
ANOTHER COLD FRONT INTRUSION THROUGH THE GULF BASIN AND A LARGE
STABLE HIGH PRESSURE AREA ADVANCING TOWARD THE GULF. THERE IS SOME
INDICATION THAT TSTMS WILL BE POSSIBLE BY D7 /SAT JAN 17TH/ ALONG
THE W/NWRN GULF COAST...ATTENDANT TO WEAK MOISTURE RETURN.
HOWEVER...THE LACK OF GREATER MOISTURE RETURN AND WEAK INSTABILITY
WILL PRECLUDE THE INTRODUCTION OF A REGIONAL SEVERE WEATHER AREA.
