MORNING WATER VAPOR IMAGERY SHOWS A WEAK UPPER LOW TRACKING ACROSS
AZ/NM...WHILE BROAD SOUTHWEST FLOW EXTENDS FROM NORTHERN MEXICO INTO
THE GULF COAST REGION. TWO AREAS ARE EXPECTED TO SEE SCATTERED
THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. ONE AREA WILL BE OVER THE
HIGHER TERRAIN OF AZ AND WESTERN NM AHEAD OF THE UPPER LOW WHERE
STEEP LAPSE RATES AND SUFFICIENT MOISTURE WILL BE PRESENT.
THE OTHER AREA EXPECTED TO SEE THUNDERSTORM ACTIVITY TODAY IS ACROSS
MUCH OF TX INTO THE LOWER MS VALLEY. SCATTERED LIGHTNING STRIKES
HAVE BEEN NOTED THIS MORNING ACROSS CENTRAL TX WHERE WIDESPREAD
ELEVATED CONVECTION IS OCCURRING. A STRONGER MID LEVEL SHORTWAVE
TROUGH WILL APPROACH EAST TX/LA BY THIS EVENING...WHERE
THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO BECOME MORE NUMEROUS. CONVECTION WILL
BE PRIMARILY ELEVATED IN THIS REGION AS WELL...WITH MARGINAL
INSTABILITY LIKELY PRECLUDING SEVERE STORMS THIS PERIOD.
