THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF
NORTHERN AND CENTRAL NORTH CAROLINA
SOUTHEASTERN VIRGINIA
COASTAL WATERS
EFFECTIVE THIS MONDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 550 PM UNTIL
1000 PM EDT.
HAIL TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.
THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 75
STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 20 MILES NORTHEAST OF
NORFOLK VIRGINIA TO 65 MILES WEST SOUTHWEST OF RALEIGH NORTH

REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE

AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

MODEST MID LVL LAPSE RATES WILL PERSIST...FORCING/STG WIND FIELD
ASSOCIATED WITH GLANCING INFLUENCE OF GRT LKS SHORTWAVE TROUGH
SUGGEST POTENTIAL FOR SUSTAINED STORMS/SUPERCELLS WITH A THREAT FOR
LOCALLY DMGG WIND...SVR HAIL...AND POSSIBLY A BRIEF TORNADO UNTIL
AFTER SUNSET.
