THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF
NORTHWESTERN ALABAMA
NORTHEASTERN ARKANSAS
SOUTHWESTERN KENTUCKY
SOUTHEASTERN MISSOURI INCLUDING THE BOOTHEEL
NORTHEASTERN MISSISSIPPI
WESTERN TENNESSEE
EFFECTIVE THIS THURSDAY AFTERNOON FROM NOON UNTIL 500 PM CST.
TORNADOES...HAIL TO 1.5 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND
GUSTS TO 70 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE
AREAS.
THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 75 STATUTE
MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 55 MILES NORTH OF DYERSBURG
TENNESSEE TO 35 MILES SOUTHWEST OF MUSCLE SHOALS ALABAMA. FOR A

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

WILL ONLY BECOME MARGINALLY UNSTABLE...HOWEVER -22C H5 COLD POCKET
SHOULD STEEPEN LAPSE RATES AS SURFACE HEATING BEGINS TO ERODE CAP.
LOW-TOPPED THUNDERSTORMS...INCLUDING SUPERCELLS...ARE EXPECTED TO
EVOLVE OVER THE NEXT HOUR OR SO NEAR THE LOW CENTER TRACKING ACROSS
THE BOOTHEEL REGION...AND FARTHER EAST ALONG WIND SHIFT INTO NERN
MS/NWRN AL. SHEAR REMAINS QUITE STRONG...ESPECIALLY NEAR THE
SURFACE LOW AND INVOF WARM FRONT LIFTING INTO FAR SWRN KY. LARGE
HAIL WILL BE LIKELY WITH ANY STRONGER CORE GIVEN THE STEEP MID LEVEL
LAPSE RATES AND COLD AIR ALOFT. ISOLATED TORNADOES WILL BE
ADDITIONAL CONCERN AS SUPERCELLS INTENSIFY THROUGH THE DAY.
AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 1.5 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE
WIND GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO
350. MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 25035.
