NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS TODAY AND TONIGHT...

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF LARGE HAIL...TORNADOES...AND DAMAGING WINDS OVER
PARTS OF THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS TODAY AND TONIGHT.

THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE

SOUTHERN NORTH DAKOTA
WESTERN NEBRASKA
SOUTH DAKOTA

ELSEWHERE...SURROUNDING THE MODERATE RISK AREA...SEVERE STORMS ARE
ALSO POSSIBLE FROM WEST TEXAS TO NORTH DAKOTA AND MINNESOTA.

A POTENT UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM WILL RACE NORTHEASTWARD ACROSS THE
ROCKIES AND NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS TODAY AND TONIGHT. WITH A VERY
MOIST AIR MASS IN PLACE AHEAD OF A COLD FRONT...THUNDERSTORMS ARE
EXPECTED TO RAPIDLY INCREASE AND INTENSIFY DURING THE AFTERNOON
HOURS ACROSS THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN HIGH PLAINS. ATMOSPHERIC
CONDITIONS ARE SUCH THAT A NUMBER OF SEVERE STORMS CAPABLE OF LARGE
HAIL...TORNADOES...AND DAMAGING WINDS ARE LIKELY. THE GREATEST
CONCERN FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE THIS AFTERNOON AND EARLY
EVENING ACROSS PORTIONS OF WESTERN NEBRASKA...MUCH OF SOUTH
DAKOTA...AND SOUTHERN NORTH DAKOTA.

STATE AND LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGERS ARE MONITORING THIS DEVELOPING
SITUATION. THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE
WEATHER SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA
WEATHER RADIO FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS LATER
