...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED OVER PARTS OF THE CENTRAL AND
NORTHERN PLAINS INTO THE MIDDLE AND UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEY LATER
TODAY THROUGH EARLY WEDNESDAY...
THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF TORNADOES...LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS OVER PARTS
OF THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN PLAINS INTO THE MIDDLE AND UPPER
MISSISSIPPI VALLEY LATER TODAY THROUGH EARLY WEDNESDAY.
THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE
MUCH OF IOWA
SOUTHERN MINNESOTA
MUCH OF NEBRASKA
SOUTHERN AND EASTERN SOUTH DAKOTA
SOUTHWESTERN WISCONSIN
ELSEWHERE...SEVERE STORMS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE FROM...THE CENTRAL HIGH
PLAINS EAST INTO THE OHIO VALLEY AND THE MID ATLANTIC STATES.
THE WEATHER PATTERN THAT HAS PRODUCED NUMEROUS CLUSTERS OF STRONG TO
SEVERE STORMS OVER A BROAD SWATH OF THE CENTRAL AND NORTHERN UNITED
STATES IN RECENT DAYS WILL BECOME FOCUSED OVER THE NORTHERN HALF OF
THE PLAINS AND THE MID AND UPPER MISSISSIPPI VALLEYS DURING THE NEXT
24 HOURS.
TWO JET STREAM DISTURBANCES...ONE OVER SOUTH CENTRAL CANADA AND ONE
CROSSING THE CENTRAL ROCKIES...WILL SERVE TO STRENGTHEN THE BROAD
CURRENT OF WARM AND MOIST LOW LEVEL SOUTHWESTERLY FLOW ALREADY
PRESENT OVER THE CENTRAL PLAINS. THESE DISTURBANCES ALSO WILL SHUNT
A COLD FRONT NOW OVER WESTERN PORTIONS OF THE DAKOTAS SOUTHEASTWARD
INTO NEBRASKA AND MINNESOTA.
SCATTERED INTENSE THUNDERSTORMS WILL FORM ALONG AND AHEAD OF THE
COLD FRONT OVER PARTS OF SOUTH DAKOTA...NEBRASKA...AND EASTERN
WYOMING THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. OTHER STORMS LIKELY WILL FORM
THROUGH THE DAY OVER PARTS OF IOWA AND SOUTHERN MINNESOTA.
ESPECIALLY DURING THEIR EARLY STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT...ALL OF THESE
STORMS WILL BE CAPABLE OF PRODUCING VERY LARGE HAIL...LOCALLY
DAMAGING WIND...AND TORNADOES.
THE SEVERE STORMS LIKELY WILL ORGANIZE INTO SEVERAL LARGE CLUSTERS
LATER THIS EVENING AND EARLY WEDNESDAY...MOST LIKELY OVER SOUTHERN
AND EASTERN SOUTH DAKOTA AND WESTERN AND NORTHERN NEBRASKA. ONE OR
TWO OF THESE CLUSTERS COULD BECOME LONG-LASTING...WITH THE POTENTIAL
TO PRODUCE MORE WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS AND HAIL...AS THEY MOVE
GENERALLY EAST INTO PARTS OF IOWA...SOUTHERN MINNESOTA...ILLINOIS
AND SOUTHWESTERN WISCONSIN THROUGH DAWN WEDNESDAY.
STATE AND LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGERS ARE MONITORING THIS DEVELOPING
SITUATION. THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO REVIEW SEVERE
WEATHER SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA
WEATHER RADIO FOR POSSIBLE WATCHES...WARNINGS...AND STATEMENTS LATER
TODAY.
