THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER IN NORMAN OK IS FORECASTING THE
DEVELOPMENT OF TORNADOES...LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS OVER PARTS
OF THE NORTHERN PLAINS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING.
THE AREAS MOST LIKELY TO EXPERIENCE THIS ACTIVITY INCLUDE
WESTERN MINNESOTA
EXTREME SOUTHEAST NORTH DAKOTA
CENTRAL NEBRASKA
EASTERN SOUTH DAKOTA
ELSEWHERE..SURROUNDING THE MODERATE RISK AREA...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS
ARE ALSO POSSIBLE FROM NEAR THE KANSAS/OKLAHOMA BORDER VICINITY TO
MINNESOTA.
A STRONG UPPER-LEVEL STORM SYSTEM CURRENTLY OVER THE NORTHERN
ROCKIES WILL MOVE NORTHEASTWARD TOWARD THE NORTHERN PLAINS THROUGH
TONIGHT. AHEAD OF AN ASSOCIATED SURFACE LOW AND COLD FRONT...A WARM
AND MOIST AIR MASS WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP NORTHWARD ACROSS THE
PLAINS TODAY...WITH A VERY UNSTABLE ENVIRONMENT IN PLACE ESPECIALLY
ACROSS NEBRASKA...THE EASTERN DAKOTAS...AND WESTERN MINNESOTA BY
LATE THIS AFTERNOON.
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP BY MID TO LATE
AFTERNOON ALONG THE FRONT...AND THE STORMS WILL LIKELY EXPAND INTO A
SQUALL LINE BY LATE EVENING. A FEW TORNADOES...VERY LARGE HAIL...AND
WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS WILL BE POSSIBLE WITH THESE STORMS FROM
LATE AFTERNOON INTO THIS EVENING.
STATE AND LOCAL EMERGENCY MANAGERS ARE MONITORING THIS POTENTIALLY
VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THOSE IN THE THREATENED AREA ARE URGED TO
REVIEW SEVERE WEATHER SAFETY RULES AND TO LISTEN TO
RADIO...TELEVISION...AND NOAA WEATHER RADIO FOR POSSIBLE
