URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 372
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
950 AM CDT MON JUN 11 2012
THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF
NORTHERN ARKANSAS
SOUTHERN MISSOURI
EXTREME NORTHWEST TENNESSEE
EFFECTIVE THIS MONDAY MORNING AND AFTERNOON FROM 950 AM UNTIL 400
PM CDT.
HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 70
MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.
THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 70
STATUTE MILES NORTH AND SOUTH OF A LINE FROM 5 MILES WEST
NORTHWEST OF FAYETTEVILLE ARKANSAS TO 50 MILES EAST NORTHEAST OF
POPLAR BLUFF MISSOURI. FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE
THE ASSOCIATED WATCH OUTLINE UPDATE (WOUS64 KWNS WOU2).
REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.
DISCUSSION...VERY UNSTABLE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP AHEAD
OF A MATURE MCS CURRENTLY ACROSS SWRN AND SCNTRL MO. LIFT ALONG THE
MCS COLD POOL WILL DEVELOP SOUTH INTO THIS AIR MASS OVER THE NEXT
FEW HOURS AND SHOULD SUPPORT A CONTINUING THREAT OF SEVERE STORMS
WITH HAIL AND HIGH WINDS. SOME UNCERTAINTY EXISTS ACROSS THE WRN
EDGE OF THE WATCH AREA WHERE MID LEVEL CAPPING MAY REMAIN TOO STRONG
FOR STORMS TO FORM. HOWEVER...LATEST TRENDS IN RADAR AND SATELLITE
IMAGERY SUGGEST THAT A WATCH IS WARRANTED ACROSS THESE AREAS FOR THE
TIME BEING WITH AN INCREASING POTENTIAL FOR A FORWARD PROPAGATING
MCS TO DEVELOP ACROSS CNTRL AND ERN PORTIONS OF THE WATCH...FROM
SERN MO INTO THE LOWER MS RIVER VALLEY...LATER TODAY.
AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 500. MEAN STORM
MOTION VECTOR 31030.
