THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A

* SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF
EXTREME WEST CENTRAL MINNESOTA
SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTHEAST NORTH DAKOTA
NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTHEAST SOUTH DAKOTA

* EFFECTIVE THIS THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 325 PM UNTIL
1000 PM CDT.

* PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
SEVERAL LARGE HAIL EVENTS LIKELY WITH A FEW VERY LARGE HAIL
EVENTS TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER POSSIBLE
SEVERAL DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE
A FEW TORNADOES POSSIBLE

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 115
STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 50 MILES NORTH
NORTHWEST OF JAMESTOWN NORTH DAKOTA TO 65 MILES SOUTH OF ABERDEEN
SOUTH DAKOTA. FOR A COMPLETE DEPICTION OF THE WATCH SEE THE

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE
FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY
DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

DISCUSSION...VISIBLE SATELLITE AND RADAR IMAGERY SHOW THE INITIAL
STAGES OF THUNDERSTORM DEVELOPMENT E-SE OF BISMARCK NEAR THE SURFACE
LOW...AND STORMS WILL LIKELY INCREASE IN COVERAGE/INTENSITY THROUGH
THE AFTERNOON. THE INITIAL STORMS COULD BE SUPERCELLS WITH A RISK
FOR LARGE HAIL...AND POSSIBLY A BRIEF TORNADO AS STORMS INTERACT
WITH THE WARM FRONT IN S CENTRAL ND. LATER THIS
AFTERNOON/EVENING...STORMS SHOULD GROW INTO A LARGER CLUSTER AND
SPREAD EWD/SEWD ACROSS SE ND/NE SD...WITH AN ACCOMPANYING RISK FOR
DAMAGING WINDS.

AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT
TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 60
KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 550. MEAN STORM
MOTION VECTOR 28025.
