THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
* TORNADO WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF
NORTHERN AND CENTRAL NEBRASKA
SOUTH-CENTRAL SOUTH DAKOTA
* EFFECTIVE THIS THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM 125 PM UNTIL
1000 PM CDT.
* PRIMARY THREATS INCLUDE...
SEVERAL TORNADOES POSSIBLE
SEVERAL VERY LARGE HAIL EVENTS TO 3 INCHES IN DIAMETER LIKELY
SEVERAL DAMAGING WIND GUSTS TO 70 MPH POSSIBLE
THE TORNADO WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 90 STATUTE
MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 65 MILES NORTH NORTHWEST OF
VALENTINE NEBRASKA TO 5 MILES EAST SOUTHEAST OF KEARNEY NEBRASKA.

REMEMBER...A TORNADO WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR
TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH
AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR
THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS
AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS.

DISCUSSION...RAPID TSTM DEVELOPMENT IS UNDERWAY ACROSS S-CNTRL SD
WITH ADDITIONAL STORM FORMATION ANTICIPATED THIS AFTERNOON FARTHER
TO THE SOUTH IN NEBRASKA. THE AMBIENT ENVIRONMENT IS CHARACTERIZED
BY MODERATE TO STRONG INSTABILITY /MLCAPE OF 2000-3000+ J PER KG/
AND RATHER STRONG DEEP-LAYER SHEAR. AS SUCH...THE SETUP IS VERY
FAVORABLE FOR SUPERCELLS CAPABLE OF VERY LARGE HAIL AND A FEW
TORNADOES. UPSCALE GROWTH OF STORMS INTO A SEWD-MOVING BOW/MCS IS
EXPECTED TO OCCUR WITH AN ASSOCIATED WIND AND HAIL THREAT CONTINUING
THROUGH THIS EVENING.
AVIATION...TORNADOES AND A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL
SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 3 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE
WIND GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO
550. MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 32020.
