...SYNOPSIS/FORECAST...
SHORTWAVE TROUGHS EMBEDDED WITHIN A POLAR UPPER-AIR STREAM FROM THE
PACIFIC NW TO THE UPPER GREAT LAKES WILL SUPPORT AREAS OF
PRECIPITATION ACROSS THE NWRN/N-CNTRL CONUS THROUGH TONIGHT. WATER
VAPOR IMAGERY INDICATES ONE TROUGH MOVING ACROSS THE NRN GREAT BASIN

RELATIVELY COOLER MID-LEVEL CONDITIONS SUCCEEDING THIS TROUGH MAY
SUPPORT SUFFICIENT BUOYANCY AMIDST OROGRAPHIC ASCENT FOR ISOLATED
THUNDERSTORMS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING FROM THE PACIFIC NW TO THE
NRN ROCKIES. AN ISOLATED LIGHTNING STRIKE OR TWO CANNOT BE RULED OUT
AHEAD OF THE TROUGH FARTHER E INTO ND/NWRN MN. ANOTHER SHORTWAVE
TROUGH WILL APPROACH THE WA COAST BY LATE TONIGHT...WITH PRECEDING
ASCENT MAINTAINING THUNDERSTORM CHANCES OVERNIGHT TONIGHT ACROSS
COASTAL WA/NWRN ORE. ELSEWHERE...ISOLATED STORMS MAY OCCUR THROUGH
TONIGHT OVER THE LOWER MS VALLEY AND ACROSS THE GULF COAST REGION
WITHIN A MOIST AND MARGINALLY UNSTABLE AIR MASS. SEVERE
