DAY 3 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0157 AM CST THU JAN 23 2014
VALID 251200Z - 261200Z
...NO TSTM AREAS FORECAST...
...DISCUSSION...
BLOCKING REGIME WILL PERSIST THROUGH SATURDAY. AS A RESULT NO
SIGNIFICANT RETURN OF GULF MOISTURE WILL OCCUR. THUNDERSTORM CHANCES
WILL REMAIN MINIMAL AND CONFINED MAINLY TO THE GREAT LAKES WHERE
LAKE EFFECT SNOWS WILL BE ENHANCED BY ANOTHER SURGE OF ARCTIC AIR.
ANY LIGHTNING ACCOMPANYING THE LAKE EFFECTS SNOWS IS EXPECTED TO
REMAIN ISOLATED IN NATURE.
OTHERWISE...ISOLATED LIGHTNING STRIKES CANNOT BE RULED OUT WITH
SHOWERS THAT MAY DEVELOP NEAR COASTAL SRN NEW ENGLAND. ACTIVITY WILL
BE PROMOTED BY ZONE OF STRENGTHENING FRONTOGENETICAL FORCING AND
ASCENT WITHIN EXIT REGION OF A PROGRESSIVE UPPER JET ROUNDING THE
SYNOPTIC TROUGH BASE. SCANT INSTABILITY SUGGESTS ANY THUNDERSTORM
CHANCES SHOULD REMAIN VERY MARGINAL INLAND.
